I really hate seeing DOM taking advantage of the waiters. In Silver Sand Soi 4 there is a geriatric Australian wearing a black and white button down shit and white shorts who can’t stand straight at 7:30 pm and keeps sticking his hand up the asses of the waiters as he stumbles around dancing on the terrace. I sure hope he isn’t an esteemed member of this group. The waiters look so uncomfortable and it is certainly disgusting to watch.

Maybe I just happened to notice them more than usual. It just seemed very strange. I remember reading an article that they were all coming out during the beginning of the pandemic because there weren’t many people around and they were hungry and looking for food. In any case there definitely a lot more than I had ever noticed before.

During a recent visit to Bangkok, I couldn’t help but notice an incredible number of rats in the Silom area as I was walking around. One evening I counted at least one on every block. It was actually quite nauseating and having been to Bangkok many times, I don’t recall ever having seen so many in the past. I realize that rats are common in big cities, especially when there is street food and trash around, but this last experience truly seemed to be record breaking. Has anyone else noticed this? I’m not sure what can be done but I hope it doesn’t get worse.

Does Taipei offer a better experience than Hong Kong for a gay visitor?

I have read through several of the trip reports but have found them to be inconclusive. Is the gay scene better in Phnom Penh or Siem Reap? Which has better looking guys and bars? When I look at the guys on Grindr and Tinder from abroad they don’t seem particularly attractive, unlike some of the Cambodian guys you see in gogo bars in Bangkok.

My experience has been over time and nothing since the start of the pandemic. People move around and new people are employed, hence the question. “Most” is a figure of speech, as you should be well aware.

I have stayed at the W many times and am surprised by the last respondent’s impression. There are plenty of guests who walk around and go to breakfast in shorts and a tank top (I’m not saying they should or shouldn’t, but the fact is that they do). I have not experienced anyone hanging around the narrow walkway from the main entrance to the elevators and in Bangkok I’ve never experienced anyone caring about anyone else was doing. The W is a 4* more than a 5*. It’s a solid option but don’t expect opulence or luxury as you would at the Mandarin Oriental, for example. There’s no problem whatsoever bringing guests back with you.
