My ability to empathize with him has improved because he is someone special to me.

He had to return home for three months due to a political issue and doesn't have a stable job there. I know he's responsible for taking care of his mother and siblings, and I know he needs to pay a bank loan.

He's saving up to go back, he has to rent a new room and start all over again. For the sake of old days and our friendship, l have sent money via Western Union. 
l received a surprising thank you message: "I will never forget this kindness and I will spend the night with you the day you come to Bangkok. I will make you happy and I will not ask for money."

I only trust three people in Thai bar scene and I believe what they say. I think our relationship has gone beyond bar boy-customer over the years; we consider each other as friends. One of them my best friend Lao guy, others two Cambodian.
Mr.Vinapu, Have you ever thought about writing a blog about your experiences in Asian countries Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam etc. including  nightlife, places to visit, prices, bars, massage parlors, stories, things to consider, etc.?

Indeed , if it was me after receiving such a message I'd consider loan forgiven in exchange for that promised free night.
I had a case (also Cambodian ) whom I helped in covid time. He did not make any commitments but when we  met finally after covid it was clear he doesn't expect any compensation for our encounter and was plainly surprised I forked out some money.
But it spoiled him too., After some time he asked for  small  loan promising to pay it for sure in 1 month, which I  forwarded to  without mentioning in 1 month I will be in Pattaya to collect it in person. Of course repayment never happened but also further money requests stopped for good. No hard feelings as I have soft spot for him (orphaned entirely when kid, I got it from third party so not his invented sob story)

1. I know a few Cambodian boys who either worked at Moonlight or Jupiter but can’t recall any who worked at both, so if you’re willing to satisfy idle curiosity please do
2. He asked for exact amount to pay the cross border “visa” (passport bribe) and travel money to Bangkok 
3. A few other Cambodians are planning their return as the border situation has calmed down and they have been stuck there just long enough to properly run out of money by now

So at my niece’s insistence we left Phnom Penh before schedule and I must say our assessment of Cambodia was/is very different. While I like country a lot and it’s one of my favorites  she doesn’t share my enthusiasm at all.
 That way we found two issues our opinions vary fundamentally – Cambodia and Italian food. She gladly accepted my suggestion to go to Pattaya straight from airport and we had a luck of Jomtien bus departing in few minutes with still few seats left so it was seamless transfer to Jomtien bus station.
As I mentioned we settled for Zing hotel (not Zing Resort in Jomtien Complex) half way between Jomtien and Pattaya an secured rooms in different wings  for added security and discretion. Rest of day  we spent in Pattaya walking along Beach road  , visiting Wat Chai and even braving to Walking Street in early evening before supper together and retiring to hotel.
In meantime I contacted certain guy from Dreamboys I saw few times before and I’m very fond of both him and certain part of his body. He confirmed he is in Pattaya and is willing to visit me in my room to see recent stamp acquisitions. He asked me  to pick him up from bar to which I answered ‘yes,  but it may not happen before midnight” , “I wait you “ was the answer. I was actually able to get there past 10.30 , paid off fee and we both went to  XBoys for their show at his insistence. As usual very progressive  with special show and plenty cock on display but since it was almost the same we watched in Jun he suggested we move to hotel after about 40 minutes inside.  
In order to maintain security we went there by two separate motorsais and entered lobby like two guest who happen to be at the door at the same time. Few hours of fun and he left  but not before I secured his arrival for next two nights, idea he seemed to like as well. It’s low season after all and when I picked him up from bar there were only 4 other customers and three times as much boys on the stage.
Next day , Friday , was liberation day as at noon niece’s local friends picked her up for promised weekend at Sattahip which created two days  gap when I could feel free man again. While day times I wasted being busy doing nothing , only interruption was massage in Burirom Spa by Dick’s Café with guy I spied while feasting on chicken with cashews at Sophia’s. It was a bit of spectacle as I tried to trigger his attention to no avail but when finally  approached him , he was all smiles.
 Massage was very good indeed, he must have some training  but extra’s were quite cursory. No complains from me though  as not only massage was great , so was his body clearly showing that when he mentioned daily exercises , he meant it.
  One evening I sat for an hour in Boyztown to see business there being very slow, another one I went for the show  in one of Jomtien Complex bars, nothing exciting but I had their employee sitting with me to keep my hands somewhat busy during spectacle. Unfortunately Max is no longer performing at The Best Bar so no Maxhunt this trip.
At night I hosted my Dreamboy guy  and we had very good time together. Last years August trip  was bit of disaster, this year  it was pure and undiluted pleasure.
After three nights in Pattaya it was time to return to Bangkok, niece being delivered there  by her friends to her super luxurious room at Conrad and I, being poor pensioner  settled in Quart Ruam Rudee hotel nearby. We noticed that we can see each other's window, good thing both secured by heavy drapes. 

Actually, when I first met him 2 years ago, he was working at Moonlight Bar, then he moved to Jupiter Bar.
His first choice is Jupiter Bar, his second choice is to work at Dreamboy Bar.

Part 2
Flying to Phnom Penh I was praying that I get room on different floor than my niece as we were staying in the same, Okay Boutique Hotel. I couldn’t imagine not visiting Space bar when there and since I got lucky there in the past I thought it’s better to be prepared just in case.
There’s that saying  that girls have special kind of intuition and before we made Phnom Penh bookings she suggested instead of booking 6 nights we should book 3 and 3. Why ? In case of cancellation . WTF thought I but went along and glad I did.  
 When we finally met in hotel she told me she made  mistake of starting Cambodia sightseeing  with trip to Killing Fields  and it moved her a lot. I was not surprised as I recalled my own reaction when I was there first time back in 2001.
 Truth emerged that while for me Cambodia is one of my most favorite countries, for her is not much fun to be there  and can we please go to Thailand  after tomorrow instead  of at end of week. Now 3+3 instead of 6 made sense as we could cancel reservation for second batch of ‘3’. Isn’t is fun to travel with niece ?
Then another revelation came  - her friends invited her for weekend in Sattahip and Guardian Angel passing by enlightened me to suggest her they will pick her up from Pattaya so she may have unplanned chance of seeing that world class , family friendly resort.
Surprisingly she liked an idea so we made flight rebooking  and reserved rooms in Zing hotel which is not only my favorite there recently but also has very safe location half way between Jomtien and Boyztown. On top of it has two wings, south and north and uncle i. e. me skilfully steered her to book her room in different wing then me, just in case.
As for security in Phnom Penh, hotel did good job giving  me room few floors lower then hers and facing opposite side of center so sneaking to Space bar all  the sudden become viable option .
Rest of day we spent sightseeing, went to Royal Palace and National Museum  , next day Central and Russian markets , few temples as well as evening cruise on Mekong which finished exactly when deluge started so we had excellent introduction to rainy season coming to hotel completely wet.
Sneaking to Space Bar proved easy as by 10 pm. she was  in her room if not in her bed and uncle could easily make a short tuk-tuk trip there. As it was mid week bar was not that busy so I could get attention  of resident  hunks, drinks aplenty on me and working diligently to land somebody to give me a ride to my hotel but I haste to say, it did not work as intended. But I had tons of fun as boys are playful but not obnoxious and requests for more drinks or God forbid , tips,  are not existent there . In short , fun, no pressure.
As for companionship I think I get how they operate, guys are playful and skilfully creating some hope so one stays and buys more drinks, they when is time to close , all of the sudden some excuse is invented, catching early bus to provinces on 1st night, starting shift at work at 6 am on 2nd night .
But it’s all done in funny way without any hint of  sleaze or malice and I must say I liked it even if I did not score.

My guy and I didn't sleep much last night in 3rd floor room at 56 Surawong because traffic from Surawong Road was loud and non-stop.
Walls not thick enough to block out noise from outside. I don't know if walls are thick enough to block out noise from inside! No complaints from guests in other rooms about acrobatics in my room!
Roll back 12 hours. My plane touched down in Bangkok at 7pm and there were many arrivals at immigration. A quick thinking lady officer decided to open priority lanes so as to shorten the queues. Great work!
Airport train and BTS were not crowded on a Thursday evening and I reached Sala Daeng BTS at 8.15pm. I decided to walk past Soi Thaniya to get to 56 Surawong and the Thaniya ladies were all out and ready unlike the gay gogo bars which only get going after 10pm.
After checking into 56 Surawong, I made my way to Sun Massage for pre-arranged 1-hour massage session with Vietnamese muscle guy who speaks Mandarin well.
"You go to bar now," he said to me knowingly after we finished showering together at 9.55pm. The converse happened when I entered Freshboys and met my guy. "You go massage before you come here." Maybe it was my glowing appearance. Maybe it was smell of aroma oil. Or maybe everyone knows what a slut I am.
Freshboys was moderately busy. Not overflowing with customers but fair selection of single customers, two high rollers and some groups (a group of 3 farang lady tourists and a mixed Chinese group of 5 with shopping bags who invited two guys to sit with them and have drinks. According to my guy, they came last night and invited the same two guys). Lady boss came to say hi and toast one of high rollers who had two guys seated with him. My guy says he comes every night. Another high roller had 4 guys drinking with him in corner.
About 30 guys working including many new faces - Myanmar and Laos. Vietnam representation continue to decline as one of my favourite guys went on visa run to Laos so he's away 2 nights.
My timing was excellent. I stepped into the bar at 10pm, got a seat, said hi to mamasan and invited my regular guy down from stage. I showed mamasan 3 fingers to mean that I was offing my guy for 3 nights. A few minutes later, the show began. Unfortunately, the opening act was no longer high energy gogo dancing but a lip synching diva performance. Then came a solo sexy dance with big cock visible. This was followed by 3 guys in tiny red bikinis below and sequinned coats on top and they were dancing to The Wonder Girls "Nobody but you". Very strange performance and my guy told me this was new addition which the 3 guys had been rehearsing the past 2 weeks. Lip synching diva performance next. But next 3 performances showed cocks galore with lots of sucking. This is what Freshboys is known for and customers come to watch this. After the first show ended at 10.45pm, the guys went up the stage on rotation.
I checked my bill. 2300 baht. Off fees for my guy for 3 nights - 3 x 500 = 1500 baht, my drink and my guy's drink = 2 x 400 = 800 baht. I told a waiter I wanted to pay up. Mamasans were busy entertaining VIP guests.
I paid with three 1000-baht notes. I got back a 500-baht note, a 50-baht note, two 20-baht notes and lots of 10-baht coins. To my surprise, I didn't get back any 100-baht notes. I collected the 500-baht note, tipped the waiter with the 50-baht note and left the rest behind.
I had to dig into my pocket to get some 100-baht notes to tip mamasan and several guys on stage as I walked past them out of bar and went to hotel.

Last time there was a bar called Bipolar but this time it looks like a new show bar has opened with a new concept. I haven't visited it yet..

I was  me reporting from Monlight and I'm comfirming it. Obviously that guy and  he was farang was in need to show off big time as that the main reason for garland presentation. Garlands at Moonlight don't have notes stapled together but rather 1000 baht written on them. You pay 1000 baht for garland, boy gets 800. That's information I got from both mamasan and boys on different occasion. 
 I agree that is stupid and waste money but still as we see  has its takers. Another then showing off reason for exercise may be to elevate status of boy we like and give I'm "face". I'm privy  to situation when it was actually suggested by the boy who even helped to staple those notes tgether for himself.  
It's speculation on my part but I wouldn't be surprised if actually bar collude with  trusted boys and customers and provides those garlands for free, just to create buying  momentum among customers
