ThinkProgress spoke with the Florida Senator at the opening luncheon of the annual Faith and Freedom Forum on Thursday and asked him about the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), a bill to make discrimination against LGBT individuals illegal across the country. Though Rubio bristles at the notion of being called a “bigot,” he showed no willingness to help protect LGBT workers from discrimination. “I’m not for any special protections based on orientation,” Rubio told ThinkProgress. KEYES: The Senate this summer is going to be taking up the Employment Non-Discrimination Act which makes it illegal to fire someone for being gay. Do you know if you’ll be supporting that? RUBIO: I haven’t read the legislation. By and large I think all Americans should be protected but I’m not for any special protections based on orientation. KEYES: What about on race or gender? RUBIO: Well that’s established law. KEYES: But not for sexual orientation?

It is obvious that Marco Rubio does not like gays. Here is what he said about the Immigration bill that Leahy has filed an amendment that would give gays and lesbians immigration rights. "If this bill has in it something that gives gay couples immigration rights and so forth, it kills the bill. I'm gone. I'm off it," he said. "I've said that repeatedly. I don't think that's going to happen, and it shouldn't happen. This is already a difficult enough issue as it is." Now, may I ask why on earth he is such a douchebag?

Starbucks Plans to Double Number of Stores in Thailand
TotallyOz replied to TotallyOz's topic in Gay Thailand
I would say Brazil and other Latin American Countries. It is where I always get the best coffee and I always take a bag back on the plane with me when I return. -
When My Son Met His 'Boyfriend,' Darren Criss
TotallyOz replied to TotallyOz's topic in The Beer Bar
I had my first "boyfriend" when I was 5 and he was 7. It lasted over 10 years. I did know at an early age I was not attracted to women. BTW: I do love Darren Criss too and want him to be my boyfriend. -
I will be returning to Bangkok soon and spending several months there. I talked to the boys that stay with me in LOS and we have decided this time we want to know which restaurant has the best pizza. We will head to at last 10 or 15 places while I am there to test them. Any suggestions you have for us to include in our Pizza roundup?

Study Shows Pill Prevents H.I.V. Among Drug Addicts In a very interesting NYT article, the effects of taking drugs before infection is a good sign in the fight against HIV. It is also interesting that this study was done in Thailand and the participants were paid. http://www.nytimes.com/2013/06/13/health/pill-prevents-hiv-among-drug-addicts-in-a-study.html?hp&_r=0

I have let the programmers know of this thread. The only change that was done on the site was a security patch to the forum. It was not major and should not have affected login but often things don't work as expected. We will try to fix the issues as we understand them.

For some reason, I tend to watch 24 every few years. Not just a show or two but the entire season. It still holds my interests as does Boston Legal. I loved Married with Children but have never gotten into the reruns. The two shows I NEVER tire of are Golden Girls and Sex in the City. Love them to death.

Smugglers drive Thailand's grim trade in dog meat
TotallyOz replied to TotallyOz's topic in Gay Thailand
I grew up on a farm. We raised cows, pigs, chickens, ducks, geese, etc. We feed them, cared for them and then we ate them. As a child it seemed normal to me but we also had pets that were part of our lives (dogs) that we would never dream of eating. I grew up in a dog family. We always had them in our lives and more than once, a dog has saved a member of my family from harm. I never had any other of those animals save us. -
I'm sold!

I think it is very funny and witty. But, I do have my niece and nephew who love it as well and they were merchandise from the show all the time.

Smugglers drive Thailand's grim trade in dog meat
TotallyOz replied to TotallyOz's topic in Gay Thailand
Really? You see no difference in eating an animal that is smart and can be trained to help the blind, etc and eating a farm animal? So, I guess it would be OK to also eat chimpanzees? -
My heart broke reading this on CNN today. CNN: Packed tight into wire baskets -- sometimes 20 or more to a cage -- animal rights activists say as many as 200,000 live dogs every year are smuggled from northeast Thailand across the Mekong River destined for restaurants in Vietnam. Dehydrated, stressed, some even dying of suffocation on the trip, the dogs are often stacked 1,000 to a truck on a journey that lasts for days. "Obviously when you've got dogs stacked on top of each other they start biting each other because they are so uncomfortable, any kind of movement then the dog next to the one that's being crushed is going to bite back," said Tuan Bendixsen, director of Animals Asia Foundation Vietnam, a Hanoi-based animal welfare group. When they arrive in Vietnam, the suffering doesn't end there. A common belief is that stress and fear releases hormones that improve the taste of the meat, so the dogs are placed in stress cages that restrict their movement. Eventually, the dogs are either bludgeoned to death or have their throats cut in front of other dogs who are awaiting the same fate. In some cases, they've been known to be skinned alive. "Dogs are highly intelligent animals so if you kill a dog and you have a whole cage of dogs next to the one that's being killed, those dogs that are going to be killed next know what's going on," Bendixsen said. According to animal rights groups, dog smugglers round up everything from family pets to Thailand's ubiquitous strays -- known as soi dogs -- to sell the animals in Vietnam, or even as far away as China where a pedigree dog can fetch a premium price. John Dalley of the Phuket-based Soi Dog Foundation estimates 98% of the dogs are domesticated and that some are even still wearing collars and have been trained and respond to commands. http://www.cnn.com/2013/06/02/world/asia/thailand-dogs/?iref=obnetwork

Vacationland: Movie Review
TotallyOz replied to TotallyOz's topic in Theater, Movies, Art and Literature
If you have never seen the movie, just give it a try. It is not porn but it is sexy. -
Vacationland Vacationland is a truly odd film. You'll either love it or hate it, depending on your basic preferences. It is certainly unique in its genre. The best way to describe it is to imagine if Wes Anderson made a film about lower-class gay teenagers. Nothing really happens in the film in any linear sense; we simply get to see snapshots of what life would be like as a gay teen in northern Maine 20 years ago. It is set in the slums of Bangor, Maine, and they seem as bleak and desperate as any housing project anywhere. Everyone in town is poor, and no one seems to have much hope for the future. The main characters are Joe, who is popular because he's very good looking and an artist; and Andrew, who is popular because he is the quarterback of the football team. The two at first are dating the two most popular girls in school and neither realizes that they are in love with one another. Joe's mom is the town slut, and Andrew is a kleptomaniac. They've been best friends forever, and we see many images of both of them jerking off thinking about the other, but neither twigs the other's gaydar at all. Finally, their girlfriends figure out they are gay and in love, and point it out to them. They tell them that if they don't fuck each other and let them watch, they will out them to the whole school. So, Joe and Andrew finally fuck, and the girls get turned on and make out with each other. We never see the girls again, but it seems reasonable that they are in some secret lesbian relationship. Joe and Andrew then start dating, and for a while not much happens. They have lots of sex, they discover the local gay bar, they have more sex, and Joe plans how to get out of Bangor. First he becomes a houseboy for a disabled older gay man. Then he seduces his high school French teacher in order to blackmail him into giving him a great recommendation for art school. He also gets a job at the local grocery store. Not much else happens until Joe sees a guy at the gay bar he recognizes and freaks out. It turns out the dude molested him when he was a child. Joe gets his number, and decides to get revenge later on. Eventually Joe gets into the art school, but has no money to be able to afford to go. He tells this to the man he is staying with. The man sends him out on an errand and when Joe gets back, he finds out that the dude has killed himself and left everything to Joe so he can go to school. Before heading off to art school, however, Joe and Andrew lure the child molester over to the dude's place, beat the living shit out of him, write the word fag on his face, and drop him on a beach where a known homeless gay basher lives presumably hoping the dude will kill him for them. Then the movie ends. It's beautiful in its bleakness, even though there isn't much plot. If you want to see an interesting slice of life about two very good-looking young gay men, you'll love this film. If you are looking for something with a bit more plot, it might not be for you. But the people who love it and you know who you are should download it again right away. cc boytoy.com 2013

I have been wishy washy for years on this to be honest. Like you, I don't think it furthers acceptance from the breeders. But, I do think it fosters relationships inside the community. Likewise, the Rentboy float that for years was in NYC Pride Parade was not going to foster anything positive for the community but I still felt they had a right to be there. However, I don't like groups like NAMBLA participating and think they should be banned.

LOL It is about all those things and more. My friends who are drag queens have just as much right as anyone else to go and be seen and party. I also love the Dykes on Bikes and the nudity and freakish costumes. But, I believe that the more boundaries are pushed, the more accepted we all will be. I marched beside Hillary one year (not her guest but just close) and loved it. Issues are important but it is also about EVERYONE having their place to say and express what they want.
-
It is necessary for so many reasons. Today, we are in a very different atmosphere than we were 20 years ago. The parade was to put our issues out front and in the eye of the world at least one day per year. I see them as not only fun but necessary!

What Not To Do At Pride It's that special time of year again when gay pride parades start happening! While pride is a wonderful thing and should be embraced, it should also be noted that there are some no-nos as well. At Boy Toy, we've attended some of the early pride marches and seen some things that just should not be. So, we figured we'd write today about the things you should avoid when it comes to having fun at gay pride. These are all things we've seen in person even the weirdest stuff and you can pass the info on to your fag hags and straight allies as well, because it's all good and everyone should behave - because how can you be proud if you are being ridiculous? First: Obviously straight girls trying to steal our thunder. Look, you are welcome, but don't turn up wearing a brightly colored wig and think that will make you fit in. There are actual gay girls there who don't need you turning heads. Beyond that, the bright wigs should be on the drag queens, not on people with vaginas. You can stand out and get noticed 364 days of the year. This is not your time. Speaking of which celebrating weird sexualities that are not gay is not appropriate. Gay pride is about being gay. It's not about being asexual, demisexual, aromantic, grey A, pansexual, or any other variant of that. Wearing shirts that declare you are a aromantic demisexual soulbinder is screaming, I'm not gay but am taking up space at your event. If you are proud of thinking you are The Joker and that you don't fuck your partner, make up your own fucking parade for that. You aren't gay, so don't show up and be a distraction. Also, don't wander around with a bottle of Jack Daniels and get drunk in the street during pride. Drink all you want in the bars after the parade. But remember, the parade is when people are seeing us - and do you really want gay culture to be represented by a bunch of nasty drunks? We can do better than that, so let's make an effort to stay sober until at least 7 p.m. Wearing fake cartoon villain mustaches have also become popular at pride events. Stop this shit right the fuck now. You are a homo, not a hipster, and hipsters suck, so don't make yourself look like one. It's not even original given that hundreds of dudes are doing it. Get over your damn self. Get to know your body and figure out what looks good on it. If you are a skinny 19-year-old twink, a belly shirt might look fine. But if you are a 55-year-old 350-pound hairy woman, belly shirts just make you look like sad. If you are going to do the drag queen thing, go all out. This means wearing heels and having a complete outfit. We saw a guy who didn't have his hair done, was wearing old dirty sneakers, no shirt and then had a tutu on. Complete your look! If you go halfway you just look odd, you don't look fabulous. Should you be a dude, don't get on a lesbian float. Should you be a girl, don't get on a gay male float. Keep to your own teams it's simply better that way! Nazi paraphrenalia is also a big bad. It might go OK in some of the more hardcore fetish bars, but in public it makes you look like a total douchebag. Do you really want to be associated with people who put us in gas chambers? Shirts reading Biohazard also suck. Enough straight people already think we are disease vectors. Don't give them ammunition. Plus, you are lowering your odds at getting laid down the line. Check the weather before you go out. If it's sunny, wear all the makeup you want. If it looks like it might rain, then wearing tons of white makeup to look like Marie Antoinette is going to make you look like shit when it starts to melt off you in the rain. Yes, we saw this happen last year. Cop outfits may seem sexy, but they can also be very triggering for many people. There are still a lot of gays who got gay bashed by cops over the years, so wearing a cop outfit can come off as hurtful. There, that doesn't seem so hard does it? Now go out and be your pride self!
