Some negative attention heating up for Brazil.
TotallyOz replied to JKane's topic in Latin America Men and Destinations
Not sure when your last trip to Pattaya was Lucky. Sunee is much better today than a few years back. It is NOT 100 percent clean but it is getting damm close. All the beer bars I know of legit and legal age. There are only a handful of gogo bars left and the police have clamped down tight on them. Thailand is not the place for people looking for Underage. The police here are VERY active in stopping this activity. Surrounding countries are the place most go. You will notice that many get arrested in Bangkok Airport but that is the main Asian hub for most surrounding countries. Thailand has no tolerance for this kind of activity. I rarely see anyone under 18 in any bar. However, it is still illegal for someone under 21 and not working in a bar to be inside and drinking. I also have never seen underage in Brazil. Not one sauna I have ever been to has young guys. I love the saunas there for this reason. You don't have to worry about a fake ID or problems. There must be a street scene as the article states but I have never seen it and have no desire to be anywhere nearby. -

Known to Be LEGIT: A Male Escort Review Exclusive
TotallyOz replied to TotallyOz's topic in The Beer Bar
The best way to give back to the site is to participate in the forums and post reviews. We are a review site. We thrive on getting good reviews. Thanks. I agree. We are adding the capability for escorts to add Videos to their profiles this week. Once that is done, we will send out a mass e-mail about it and the Known to Be Legit. We try to limit the number of e-mails we send to one every few months. But, I agree this is important to do. Thanks. -
I can't find a way in the Admin to get exact stats for one week only. I am still working on it. However, most defiantly the count is up the last week. IMHO a great success so far! Thank you guys for all the hard work!

I wanted my Thai boyfriend to experience The Godfather this week. We watched all 3 episodes. Not an easy task for a non native speaker. He thoroughly enjoyed the movies and asked lots of questions. One of them was about the cooking the men were doing in the movies. It got me to thinking about great food scenes from movies and great movies about food. I have listed a few of my favorite foodie movies. Anyone have others to add? Chocolate - One of the best romance movies EVER. The Cook the Thief His Wife & Her Lover - Sick but an amazing movie. Julie and Julia Fried Green Tomatoes - Growing up in Alabama, this one hit home. Like Water For Chocolate The Breakfast Club - Feel in love with everyone in this. Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory - I must have seen this 100 times when I was a kid. Today, I still love it.

We appreciate all the support. I am the new Admin for the website. My boyfriend and I live in the USA and visit Thailand for 6 weeks every summer. Our plan is to retire there in 3-4 years. Most of our time is spent in Chiang Mai and that is where we wish to retire. Feel free to send me a Private Message with any questions. Thank you for your continued support of Gay Thailand - The Information Center for Gay Thailand, Gay Pattaya, Gay Bangkok, Gay Chiang Mai, Gay Phuket and Sunee Plaza.

A friend told me that Solid Bar was packed last night with great guys. He said there must have been 20 beautiful lads there. I was told so many that he had trouble choosing. I guess when you prices for drinks are reasonable, the boys are sexy and the staff is honest with what they do, you will keep customers coming. I am looking forward to a visit to Solid on my next trip to Bangkok.

The beer bars may have been busy last night but the 3 gogo bars I went to were eerily quiet. Few boys, few staff, few dancing, few customers. Perhaps it was just a Saturday Night and all the boys were resting up for a late night. We were out till after 11 and things were very quiet. One GoGo bar I went into which usually has a slew of hot guys were so dead that I felt uncomfortable staying. We paid for the drinks, gulped them down and off we went.

WASHINGTON — The Senate confirmed Elena Kagan to a seat on the Supreme Court on Thursday, giving President Obama his second appointment to the high court in a year and a victory over Republicans who sharply challenged her credentials and record. Ms. Kagan, who is set to be sworn in Saturday as the newest member of the court, was approved by a vote of 63 to 37 after hearings and floor debate that showcased the competing views of Democrats and Republicans about the court but exposed no significant stumbling blocks to her confirmation. In welcoming the Senate action, Mr. Obama said he expected that Ms. Kagan would be a strong addition to the court because she “understands that the law isn’t just an abstraction or an intellectual exercise.” “She knows that the Supreme Court’s decisions shape not just the character of our democracy, but the circumstances of our daily lives,” the president said. Ms. Kagan, the former dean of the Harvard Law School, a legal adviser in the Clinton administration and solicitor general in the Obama White House, becomes the fourth woman to serve on the court. She will join two other women currently serving, including Justice Sonia Sotomayor, who was confirmed almost exactly a year ago, and Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. She will be the only justice on the court not to have served previously as a judge. At age 50, Ms. Kagan could have a long tenure, but her confirmation is not seen as immediately altering the current closely divided ideological makeup of the court, which is often split 5 to 4 on major decisions. She succeeds Justice John Paul Stevens, the leader of the court’s liberal bloc, who is retiring. “Her qualifications, intelligence, temperament and judgment will make her a worthy successor to Justice John Paul Stevens,” said Senator Patrick J. Leahy, Democrat of Vermont and chairman of the Judiciary Committee. The court she is joining has grown more assertive in placing a conservative stamp on decisions under Chief Justice John Roberts, and is likely to confront an array of divisive issues in coming years, like same-sex marriage, immigration and the federal government’s role in health care. Among the cases she is expected to sit in on when the new term starts in October are two major First Amendment clashes: one involving California’s attempts to limit the sale of violent video games to minors, the other on the free speech rights of protesters at military funerals. Because of her role as solicitor general in the Obama administration, Ms. Kagan has already identified 11 cases on the docket for the next term in which she would disqualify herself because she had worked on them for the White House. One concerns the privacy rights of scientists and engineers at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory who object to federal background checks. In the final vote, 5 Republicans joined 56 Democrats and 2 independents in supporting the nomination; 36 Republicans and one Democrat, Senator Ben Nelson of Nebraska, opposed her. In a sign of the import of the moment, senators formally recorded their votes from their desks. The partisan divide over the nomination illustrated the increasing political polarization of fights over Supreme Court nominees, who in years past were backed by both parties in the absence of some disqualifying factor. Ms. Kagan received fewer Republican votes than Justice Sotomayor, who was supported by nine Republicans in her 68-to-31 confirmation on Aug. 6, 2009. Democrats balked at Samuel A. Alito Jr., nominated by President George W. Bush, with only four endorsing him in a 58-to-42 vote in January 2006. Most Senate Republicans challenged Ms. Kagan’s nomination until the end, asserting that she lacked sufficient experience and had unfairly stigmatized the military by supporting a bar on recruiters at Harvard Law over the military’s policy against allowing gay men and lesbians to serve openly. They said her record in both Democratic administrations and her strong ties to Mr. Obama suggested that she would try to imprint her own political values and those of the president on court decisions. “Whether it’s small-claims court or the Supreme Court, Americans expect politics to end at the courtroom door,” said Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, the Republican leader. “Nothing in Elena Kagan’s record suggests that her politics will stop there.” Republicans said the need to interpret the Constitution strictly was, in their view, reaffirmed by this week’s federal court ruling against California’s voter-imposed ban on same-sex marriage, a case considered likely to eventually reach the Supreme Court. Senator Jeff Sessions of Alabama, the senior Republican on the Judiciary Committee, warned that the American public would “not forgive the Senate if we further expose our Constitution to revision and rewrite by judicial fiat to advance what President Obama says is a broader vision of what America should be.” But Democrats described the new justice as a brilliant legal scholar who would broaden the outlook of the court. “When it opens this fall, three women — a full third of the bench — will preside together for the first time,” Senator Harry Reid, the Nevada Democrat and majority leader, said. “That’s really progress.” Mr. Obama called Ms. Kagan’s confirmation “a sign of progress that I relish not just as a father who wants limitless possibilities for my two daughters, but as an American proud that our Supreme Court will be more inclusive, more representative and more reflective of us as a people than ever before.” Ms. Kagan has never been a judge and her previous courtroom experience was limited — she argued her first case before the Supreme Court last year — leading some Republicans to cite her lack of time on the bench as a chief factor in their opposition. They included Senator Scott Brown, a Massachusetts Republican, who announced Thursday he would oppose the nomination of the woman he introduced at her confirmation hearings. “When it comes to the Supreme Court, experience matters,” he said in a statement. Democrats dismissed that argument, with Senator Christopher J. Dodd of Connecticut noting that more than one-third of the 111 Americans who have served on the court were not previously judges, including former Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist, whose tenure was highly regarded by many Republicans. “I would therefore submit to my colleagues that there are other important measures of the quality of a Supreme Court nominee besides the depth of his or her experience on the bench,” Mr. Dodd said. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/08/06/us/politics/06kagan.html?_r=1&partner=rss&emc=rss

Known to Be LEGIT: A Male Escort Review Exclusive
TotallyOz replied to TotallyOz's topic in The Beer Bar
We actually have this already. It is called Verified Profiles. An escort that shows in this area takes a photo with their name written and the date. They upload this and it must match the photos on file. We have had only a few take advantage of this but the system is in place. -
The lights went out in parts of Pattaya for about an hour. It was nice to have a romantic evening with the BF. I looked from the balcony of my room and it was sporadic lights out all around. Some areas were fully lit and some were fully out. Of course Walking Street was visible for a mile away.

Known to Be LEGIT: A Male Escort Review Exclusive
TotallyOz replied to TotallyOz's topic in The Beer Bar
Good question. I haven't thought about it yet. I'll get back to you. -
We have added a new feature to the site. This is on the Escorts Profiles. It is a Known to Be Legit. This tells others that you have met them and their photos are real. It is not a review of an escort but simply that the escorts description and photos match the person you have met. For example, if Townie host a Hamburger Mary's party when I get back to LA and several escorts show up and you chat with them, you can rate them from your conversations with them. Do their photos match the description? Is the profile accurate? In order for members to use this feature, they must have at least ONE PUBLISHED review. This tells us that the person doing the rating is also legit. Check out any Escort Profile to see the ability to rate. Also, check out the Most Rates Members in the Search Area of the site. These update hourly and escorts who are rated often will get stars. They are: 1 Star – (Known to be Legit) Known by at least 5 Reviewers 2 Stars – (Gets Around) Known by at least 10 regular Reviewers 3 Stars – (True Professional) Known by at least 20 Reviewers 4 Stars (Popular and Reliable)– Known by at least 25 Reviewers 5 Stars (100 percent Prime Time Escort) – Known by at least 35 Reviews This has taken us a while to implement on the site and we hope you enjoy this additional feature. Famous Bar is a new Ladyboy bar on the street that goes from the end of Sunee. It is on the same side as White Night and almost across from the Little Mango. They have done an Absolutely fabulous job on this place. The bar is well done and it has some of the most beautiful ladyboys I have seen in Pattaya. The drinks are reasonable. I felt no pressure to take someone although they were eager to get us in. What a beautiful place!

Pattaya - The days when foreign paedophiles and criminals could retire in peace in Pattaya - a Thai beach resort infamous for its prostitution and sleazy nightlife - are numbered, at least according to immigration police. On Thursday, Pattaya's Immigration Office will officially launch the country's first Transnational Crime Data Centre, equipped with a staff of 12 and a 6-million-baht (184,615-dollar) computer system dedicated to tracking down nefarious expats. "Pattaya may have been a heaven for foreign criminals in the past, but now we have the technology to spoil their paradise," said Police Colonel Athiwit Kamolrat, Chonburi Immigration Police Superintendent. The centre, plastered with photos of alleged criminals wanted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Interpol, Bangkok-based embassies and Thai authorities, sits above Pattaya's Immigration Office, a busy place visited by hundreds of expatriates a day. Pattaya, a beach resort in Chonburi province about 100 kilometres south-east of Bangkok, has one of the largest expat communities in Thailand, estimated at more than 70,000 more-or-less permanent residents. "Every foreigner who lives in Pattaya for a long time needs to come here to renew their visas, and when they do we put their name and address in our computer base," said Police Lieutenant Colonel Prapansak Prasansuk, deputy superintendent of Chonburi immigration. The centre also receives calls and emails from more than 700 hotels, guest houses and service apartments in Pattaya whenever a foreigner checks in for more than 24 hours. A law requiring that all foreigners who stay in a place for more than a day must be reported to immigration police has been on the books for years, but now it is being enforced. "Some guest houses and serviced apartments didn't want to report to us because they were avoiding taxes, but I told them we are not responsible for collecting taxes, just for collecting foreigners," Athiwit said. "In recent months the call-ins have increased 130 per cent." Those who fail to report foreigners face fines. With the improved surveillance of resident foreigners in Pattaya, immigration police are well positioned to make arrests of any foreigner facing a warrant abroad, as long as the warrants are on their database. Since October 2009, Pattaya immigration police have assisted with the arrests of seven human traffickers, primarily dealing with child prostitution rings, and about a dozen foreign criminals facing arrest warrants either abroad or in Thailand. Embassy police officers based in Bangkok attribute Pattaya's improved performance primarily to Police Lieutenant General Wuthi Liptapallop, the new head of the Immigration Bureau, who after taking office earlier this year made it his mission to crack down on foreign criminals in the kingdom. "It's all linked to Wuthi," said one European diplomat. "It used to be very difficult getting assistance from the Thai police, but now something definitely has happened." To what extent and for how long the Pattaya crack down persists remains to be seen. There is a good deal of scepticism, given the ingrained corruption in the city. "There are a large number of foreign gangsters operating in Pattaya, and without exception they are all paying off the police," said one British crime reporter who specializes in Pattaya. Pattaya's recent history includes a long list of illustrious criminals. There was Wolfgang Uelrich, a German national who defrauded tens of thousands of dollars from his countrymen through a bogus animal- welfare charity. He used the charity to invest in bars, restaurants and various businesses in Pattaya, and was eventually extradited to Germany where he was found guilty of fraud. Rene Larsen, a convicted Danish drug trafficker, was a resident of Pattaya and proud owner of a palatial residence in the 1990s before he was extradited to Copenhagen. Both men were known to have close connections with the Pattaya police force. "Corruption in these cases has decreased in Pattaya, because now we have concrete evidence to present against them," Athiwit said. "But for the crackdown to work we need to have similar centres in Phuket, Samui, Chiang Mai and other tourist destinations." The bigger question for observers is whether the crackdown will continue after Wuthi's term expires. "In Thailand, for the long term, one never knows," said one Western diplomat Police get tough on Pattaya's criminal migrants

The GayThailand.com board is here to stay. We will not be moving the url or the forum. All posts will stay in place. Nothing will go anywhere. When I made the post a few days back, I thought that the move was a good move. After listening to the comments of many on the board who were not happy with the site being transferred over to a new domain, I was in contact with a guy in the USA who has offered to buy the site several months ago. We were close to a deal when I was in the USA but it fell through. But, in the end, this is a better move for me than to get members upset and it is a great way to enhance the Gay Thailand community of forums. The money was deposited in escrow for the site and the paperwork is being sent to me; I hope to have this deal finalized soon. I'll then hand over the reins to a great couple that will be great running the board. I will be staying on as a very active poster on this site and help in anyway I can to continue its growth. I know the new owner will want to make some changes to the site but my understanding is that these changes are to the front end of the website and not the Forum part of the site. The front end of the website is where the most traffic comes as many guys use it on a daily basis for finding a lover / BF / etc. The code that was written for the front end is out of date and old and needs a major revamp. Part of my reservation in continuing the site was putting another 10-14k into the site. I am not a programmer and thus can't fix things on the fly. The new owner's lover is much more computer savvy than I am and this will be easier for him. Again, I want to thank everyone for making this site so great. I appreciate all the posters and participants.
