  1. Perhaps in your mind it is. There are many opportunities in the USA that you could never find in some other countries. Many, like you, have the USA dead and buried. I'm not so sure she is ready for that! Yes, Mr. Obama has been a miserable failure and if he doesn't get his act together will be a one term president. But remember, we said that about George W. Bush and he was reelected.
  2. When I am in Bangkok I often go to Dick's Cafe for dinner and watch the parade outside just as I would when in Pattaya go to Le Royale Cafe and do the same. Over the last two or three years Dicks Cafe's food and service has gone down the drain so to speak. Just before the end of 2010 I stopped in for a drink after doing some shopping. I ordered an orange juice and it was preserved and not fresh as it had been in previous visits. Two other times before leaving Bangkok I had a late lunch and dinner at the cafe. The Thai food has slipped a bit as well as some of the other dishes. The mixed salad was mostly cabbage and it was hard to find any lettuce. The tom ka gai was ordered spicy and was served as bland as warm milk. Again, the waiter forgot to bring rice and had to be reminded. On another visit I ordered a sandwich and it was simply awful! On two occasions one of the managers Markus and the newer younger Swiss boy that helps manage the Tarntawan Place Hotel was there and they both were gracious hosts. When I spoke to them about the problems with the food and drinks all I got was a smile from one and the other rolled his eyes. Turn the clock back a few years ago when I would spend more time in Bangkok I would come into Dick's Cafe in the morning and have a coffee and chat with some of the guys there. One of them would be busy making fresh orange juice, cutting and preparing the fruit for the bar service later in the day. The attitude was very positive then. Perhaps the death of Dick and his great management style has departed with him. That is really a shame. Nowadays, the focus is not on quality and I'm sorry to say that I may not be visiting Dick's Cafe as much as I used to. The Tarntawan Place Hotel is still one of my favorite places to stay but the "old girl" is really starting to show her age. But then again, aren't we all.
  3. Since the USA is more than likely NOT your home country you should probably mind your own business. The USA is just fine as it is. I own several guns and enjoy going to a shooting range often. The problem is keeping guns out of the hands of the insane. Focus on that problem before you start trying to change the laws in a land you don't belong to. On a final note, I do enjoy your posts and hope you'll continue, but this topic is something that you know too little about.
  4. I have had the corned beef and the pastrami sandwiches at Street Life on several occasions and they both are very good indeed. The rye bread was also good, but I usually order mine toasted. You may have caught them on a bad night or there was a mix up. No one is perfect and certainly your Thai may not be up to standard. It is important to not be so harsh on restaurants as there are some differences in the meats that you get in Thailand and those you get in your home country. Many times, in Thailand, the meats are leaner, so you won't get the fatty pastrami that you are use to in the Jewish delis in let's say New York City. But then again, your waistline might not be so affected and your arteries not so clogged either.
  5. Back in September I arrived from Tokyo on a Delta flight late at night. It was pouring down rain and instead of using a gate with a sky bridge they used a bus gate. The last three feet from the plane's stairs to the bus was under the open sky and all the passengers got a good soaking. Not a very good first impression on Bangkok. The same thing used to happen at Don Mueang (DMK) so there is nothing new happening. Just makes you feel that BKK airport is thirty years behind the times.
  6. That is quite a good photo of someone 49. Perhaps it is his photo but when he was 29.
  7. That is very negative profile. I feel sorry for someone that has so many restrictions. He must be a very lonely old soul.
  8. I voted for number 4. But they're all good cards. Just correct the spelling and you're good to go. Best of luck!
  9. I don't think you'll see Netflix in Thailand for a while. It would be too easy for the Thais to download the movies for copying. I have Netflix in the USA and use it all the times to watch movies right on my TV. It's nice service to have.
  10. You are a large part of this boards postings so I can only imagine how mundane it will get around here. Hopefully there will be an influx of new posters. It would be sad to see this board just fade away.
  11. The last time I came in around midnight on a Delta flight from Tokyo they quoted me 3000 Baht to Pattaya. I did get a reduction to around 2000 Baht but that was a bit high. Does anyone know a service that is less expensive. And, did you book online or what?
  12. I tried them for breakfast a couple of times and it was good. Not being a buffet person, I think I'd pass.
  13. Sounds like your fellow traveller is an obnoxious slug!
  14. Hey Gay Wrote the following: I have been coming since 1976 and in those days unless if you noticed 12 gay guys mainly business men or Diplomats, you were lucky and had to make your own fun, yes there was a few gay Bars and places to meet Boys, but it was all very basic, then when you went to Pattaya in the 80s more bars sprung up and one Gay Hotel, in North Pattaya the BEST HOTEL now called Caf
  15. Those nasty types are miserable and nothing would ever make them happy. I often wonder why they spend their time complaining when you can have fun 24/7. Really makes no sense to me at all!
  16. That was an excellent report. Please keep us updated on any all future trips you make,
  17. What has helped to ruin the go-go bars is the loud music, pushy mamasans, those dreadful (and boring) drag shows and the overall quality of the boys on display. If the bar owners could tone down the music, stop the pushy the mamasans and get rid of those drag shows they would begin to make things a bit more interesting. It would help a great deal if they found some better looking boys too. I've found myself not visiting the bars on various holidays because of the fact I see nice looking boys outside of the bars. I know everyone's tastes vary but they should strive for quality over just having many boys that are either too old, too fat or just not nice to look at. This is my opinion and I'm sure not the opinion of many others.
  18. I'm not a coffee expert, but I do enjoy a good cup or two. The coffee at the Ocean Cafe was fresh brewed and tasted good to me. I also enjoyed the american breakfast. Very reasonable and good quality. What do others think?
  19. I live in the USA 6 months out of the year. I haven't seen any breakfasts for $1.49 in many, many years. in fact, most places get more than $1.49 for a cup of their "dishwater" coffee. Most breakfast places charge about $10.00 plus the cost of a cup of coffee. And, juice is an option at extra cost.
  20. Unfortunately most of the guys my age are either in old age homes or on respirators. The old age homes won't let you in after 8pm and the respirators have too many hoses to disconnect.
  21. I think everyone says that in their youth. But as you get older, wiser and more mature you realize that there is much more to life than working. I always loved my job, enjoyed the travel, etc., but I now enjoy being retired more. No one on their death bed said: I wish i worked more..or I wish i had taken fewer vacations. No, they say: I wish I had retired earlier, taken more vacations and enjoyed life more. One day you'll be singing the same song we do. You'll be surprised.
  22. You have to include Gaybutton in the group. He had a wonderful website just chocked full of information. I hope he'll add some of that material when he gets time. Those articles were an interesting read!
  23. I've had my laptop checked by customs on the last 4 trips back into the USA. They've also looked at my digital camera and asked about any software. This mostly happens at DTW (Detroit) and once at LAX (Los Angeles). Since I don't have anything interesting for them, they just look things over for a couple of minutes and then wave me through. Just be sure to email and photos of your gentlemen friend to yourself and delete your browsing history, etc. That should keep them happy.
  24. Because of the weak US dollar it seems that the exchange rate could easily be at 25 in the not too distant future. This will cause problems for those on a tight budget. I assume that when this happens some folks may decide to take a look at other destinations. Seems that some are leaving for Cambodia but maybe they're a little ahead of their time.
  25. Explain the message.....?? Sound to me like he is a jerk!
