He’s a lot of fun for sure. But yeah, like I said even him I had that conversation that I want him to find someone that makes him happy. When you’re in your 20s like he is, it’s your time to have fun and explore the world and all the possibilities. I’ve had a couple situations similar to this when I was in Colombia. Two of the guys I would date if I lived there. One was just pure animalistic fun lol. But I’m still in touch with all three. One in particular I still converse with pretty much every day. Another teacher by the way. But I never ask if he’s met anyone and I certainly don’t bring up guys I’ve met.

I attended a lecture on health in our older years.
The lecturer spoke about the importance of eating lots of protein.
I asked him if I could get that from protein shakes or powder and he told me just to eat steak - and lots of it.
I haven't eaten steak in years, not because I don't like it, but because I gave up cooking at home years ago.
But since he told me that, I went out and bought a new frypan and have been eating a piece of fillet steak every night for over a month now.
I had forgotten how delicious it is - well done and eaten with worstershire sauce!
Now I know why my Pattaya guy always ordered steak whenever we went to his favourite restaurant - the Japanese restaurant Fuji at Central Mall. I'd forgotten how good it is.
Japan is famous for its ridiculously priced 'wagyu' steak, but considering it's so fatty - the A5 grade is basically 60% or more fat, I don't think there's much protein in it.
As for us Aussies being into health and fitness, that's not particularly true at all. It's mainly the young who go to gyms to work out, but lots of gyms end up going bankrupt. They open and close all the time.
There is a fantastic tennis complex near where I live but it's essentially deserted. I wouldn't be surprised if it turns into a housing development.
Everyone here is attached to their iPads and phones. It's big problem with school kids. Programs to encourage them to exercise appear to be failing.

To be honest - my preference is to remain here in Jomtien - which is very easy as I would not need to do anything = status quo (lazy way out). But, after 4 years of living here - there is this constant gnawing feeling that won't leave me in peace. Each time there is a negative event that happens in my life here it returns in full force - hence this becomes the fuel that makes me want to see if the grass would be any greener in the other pond(s). Also, in my previous professional career, I was taught to continuously be on the lookout on ways to mitigate future negative outcomes and this learned behavior permeates into my current retiree life. So, I need to make this adventure in order to be able to give peace of mind to myself. Perhaps, at the end of this journey, I will discover that the "grass is as green as it gets" by just remaining in Jomtien and to accept and manage the negative things that I do not like about living here.
I intend to split my time between Pattaya (Jomtien) and in various locations in the Philippines - because I have still not yet found a location that meets my desired retirement location attributes, such as:
Beach front living - but western facing for the amazing sunsets. Unfortunately, many places that I visited in the Philippines - the accommodation on the beach was east facing - so no amazing sunsets.
A high floor with a big balcony - this I found to be very challenging - as it seems that the Philippine people are not balcony loving people like here in Thailand. If you do find a balcony, it is very small and somewhat dangerous due to it being too small.
Decent access to some gay life - obviously nothing in the Philippines can match what Pattaya has on offer - especially in the Jomtien Complex Supertown. But I would be ok with just being able to hang out with the local gay community - which I have found that they tend to be informal meetups and of course there are always the apps. For example, 1 Cebuano guy created a new Telegram group last year, called anonymous cebu and already it has more than 5,000 members and they organize social events, hiking trips, game events, sightseeing, hookups, approved safe masseur list, dating advice, and many more categories. So, this is proof that the Filipino gay community is starved for something other than the apps to meet people - and I find this very encouraging.

Forgot to share a moment yesterday that cracked me up. @spoon was asking if when I get back if I would date any of these guys I’ve been seeing. I have mixed feelings on it. All three were fun experiences here while I’m thousands of miles away from home. But back home, I could never date someone half my age. I wanna bring my guy to family functions, out for drinks with coworkers. I would feel really awkward bringing someone with such an age gap in the real world. That said when I move here maybe I would be more open to it.

The only one that that conversation has happened with is this new one. The Japanese teacher is a sweet guy, but his English is really limited. It’s not like we have that soulmate thing going on. 😉 the second one lives in Cambodia so no that was never really a discussion. He was just visiting Bangkok. We’re still in touch on social though. The guy who lives here … yesterday we had the talk that I had with the other two that I hope he finds someone who makes him happy. But he’s probably the one of the three that if he’s single when I do get back here for good I would totally be down to date. My ideal timeframe would be to move here in May or June. But I’ve got a lot to do before that. And I still haven’t decided if it’s going to be Chiang Mai or Bangkok.

Ended up skipping Mae Kampong so I could spend another day with the local. Started off with some bedroom fun here at the Airbnb. We then went up to the rooftop pool and it turned into a photoshoot. I'm a wanna be photographer and he was impressed with my work especially once I showed him color correction. You really can't take bad shots up there anyway... it's a beautiful infinity pool and you've got the mountains in the background and it was sunset.
He loves Italian food, as do I, so we checked out a place near my Airbnb I'd walked by a bunch times. It was good but like last night, nothing worth plugging. Dessert again in my bedroom and he just left... he's working at 6a tomorrow. Two rounds again today - so yeah not at all horny tonight to go to find paid fun... this kid has more than taken care of that need.

I think in the gay world, like the hetero world, people are attracted to someone younger when it comes to sex.
I discovered this when living in Japan.
As a young foreigner I had to push the guys away from me in the clubs and gay cinemas. It was paradise.
But after my mid-thirties I became somewhat invisible, considered too old by many.
In a country like Japan where youthfulness is revered, the only free sex I can get from young guys these days is the odd daddy-chaser or a guy interested in having sex with a foreigner, just for the 'exotic' experience.
So, Thailand it is!

I know many in open relationships that function great. You just have to establish those boundaries and keep communication open.

My last visit to Wat Umong was just a few months ago. It's a very different forest style wat. The brick walled tunnels are unique. I always buy bags of fish pellets from the vendors to feed the fish in the lake at the back of the temple grounds.

If they were all paid situations, I wouldn’t feel bad about it. Obviously at that point it’s transactional. When I go grocery shopping, I’m not committed to one grocery store. 😆 But yeah when it’s two guys who have a genuine interest, I do start to feel guilty.

Evening gents... another fail in terms of giving you any good juice on the bars... I think I'm in for the night. Local guy and I spent the day together. He just left for work. Had some fun this morning when he arrived at my Airbnb. We then went out to breakfast at my favorite little American diner and then headed back to Nimman. Checked out their mall (Maya). Nothing like the mega malls in Bangkok, but nicer than most US malls these days. We went to a movie (Avengers) where I started falling asleep in the first hour. How he wasn't yawning and dozy is beyond me. He worked until 6am and was at my place by 10:30. After we came back and grabbed dinner at a little Thai restaurant across the street. Nothing worth plugging but it was ok. And he was my dessert back in the Airbnb. 😜

On my most recent trip to Chiang Mai, I rented a car from the airport for two weeks, and I drove with my Lao friend to revisit places I first visited more than 30 years ago, along with some new locations. We drove to Chiang Rai, Doi Mae Salong, Chiang Saen, Doi Tung, Mae Kompong, etc.
And I'm pleased to hear that your experience of Chiang Mai goes back at least a decade. My first visit to Thailand was in 1981. I have been to Chiang Mai numerous times, for extended stays over the decades. I have spent a considerable amount of time in northern Thailand, so I believe I have a fair amount of firsthand knowledge of the area.
I spent New Year's Eve of the new millennium 26 years ago in Adam's Apple Club, as I was staying with a Shan boy who worked there in 1999. At midnight, when the clock ticked into the year 2000, Mohammed, the owner flickered the light switches, and comically announced on the speaker system "Y2K, Y2K".
I do not intend to comment further about this. Especially, I do not wish to derail this excellent thread that @aaroninatl started about his experiences in the north. I was merely giving him a few suggestions for places to visit while in Chiang Mai. I think I am not alone in saying it would be appreciated if you would tone down your pompous remarks.
