November 6, 20169 yr I have the book and cherish it. Did you type the quote or did you get it somewhere digital? Now having walked the Silom area at night, I must say I am happy about the change. There are still 4 underwear shops left (that would be the only thing I would miss). Everything now on the side to the buildings, the sidewalk and side to street is free. Congratulations to cleaning it up and I hope it stays as it is.

November 6, 20169 yr haha no I didn't type it up, that would be too much! I scanned the pages and then copied the text from the resulting pdf. Could have taken pictures of the pages, too, but this seemed kinda easier.
November 7, 20169 yr if anyone is in Bangkok and wants to get the book at a bargain price, the Nelson Hayes Library on Surawong is (unfortunately) selling their copy (copies?): https://www.facebook.com/events/762339550536045/permalink/804396276330372/
November 9, 20169 yr . Why on earth do you have to sell and buy clothes or souvenirs on the sidewalk? because this is where your clients are
November 9, 20169 yr And it is not only businesses who encroach on sidewalks but private people as well, putting plants, chairs there. .... or just simply walking , one should add
November 10, 20169 yr .... or just simply walking , one should add one should hardly be described as "encroaching" when one is walking in a designated pedestrian space like a sidewalk or footpath! bkkguy
November 12, 20169 yr The tessakit were kind enough to post the following statistics of them soliciting opinions from locals and visitors in October. I took the photo at one of their info tents on Lower Sukhumvit, so that's not the numbers for Silom just to make that clear.
November 13, 20169 yr It is all a bit academic anyway, the number of stalls operating in "no-stalls Silom" is increasing every day, and particularly every night - on shop windowsills, entry stairs, under overhead shop awnings, etc. while I am sure neither the building owner nor the BMA could easily prove the demarcation line between private and public space I am surprised venues like Sunrise Tacos consider their business image is enhanced by their window space hosting a stall selling sex aids or 7/11 does not cares that 50% of their entrance stairs are obstructed by stalls - or are they the ones collecting "rent" rather then the BMA? bkkguy
November 13, 20169 yr That's something I wondered about, too. Why would a pretty legit sports bar on Sukhumvit want to be associated with a dodgy street vendor who is selling fake poppers? The "rent" payment cannot be THAT impressive.
November 13, 20169 yr Author I knew they would start sneaking back with the fake viagra, fake watches, handbags and tshirts and all the other stuff they used to sell in the different stalls on Silom! So maybe I can find the Looking movie and the third season of Transparent after all when Im back in December? I kind of enjoyed the chaos along Silom Road.
November 14, 20169 yr I kind of enjoyed the chaos along Silom Road. count me in, I'm not flying through half the world to walk neat and orderly streets, Can have this at home for a price of bus ticket
November 14, 20169 yr Count me out! I agree that sidewalks are for walking, and I hated the obstacle course that was Silom Road. However, having tried to walk in Ho Chi Minh City, I would take the sidewalk vendors over the motorbikes.
November 14, 20169 yr So maybe I can find the Looking movie and the third season of Transparent after all when Im back in December? The complete third season of 'Transparent' is available on rarbg.com for download in both 720p and 1080p form, if you are into torrenting.

It doesn't take an entire sidewalk to sell Viagra.
November 15, 20169 yr It doesn't take an entire sidewalk to sell Viagra. unless client takes it right away and will block passage with enhanced erection
