Atlantico Copacabana is a favorite of so many on this board. It is located right in the heart of the city and in walking distance to one of the best saunas in the world. The rates are low and the breakfast is good. There was even a pool party there many years ago with many members here.

I stayed there last week....for $20 usd a day with breakfast and no problems bringing guys back, it's a steal.  Hasn't been renovated, but is clean and good service. Only downside is internet is good sometimes and non existent sometimes....

Does the entire staff there accept that it's an auxiliary bordello? Brazil can be very open-minded, but I wonder what they really think beneath the politeness and sterling customer service for which Brazil is well known in more ways than one.

I do not know you, so I do not know from what culture you are looking at Brazil. It is not just an open minded culture, most people coming from a Puritan influenced cultures do not get that. They do not relate sex with brothels necessarily, although they have nothing against them. 

When I was in Rio last November, Rhyheim was hosting his invited stars in Ipanema hotels. The staff and the management recognized him and them and they were delighted to offer their installations to shoot porn for no extra charge. The cleaning lady at his home told Rhyheim that her son was a fan, and asked to take a picture with him to send to her son. Most of the Brazilian pon stars I know not only are in full disclosure with their families, but they love what they do.

It is just anecdotal evidence, but it does allows you to infer that it is not just an issue of open-mindness, but instead a radically different mindset towards sex and sexuality.

I got a very different explanation recently from a Brazilian.  He said no problem with the Brazilian men as tops as that goes along with the general Latino cultural machismo - the top is the man and the reason the Brazilians are such good lovers is that sex is everything to them and if a man is not a great lover, then reflects on how macho he is.  As for the guys who bottom - well, they are considered much lower on the pecking order.

all that said, I’m not sure I’m buying it because so many guys do porn now and many are both top & bottom.  Perhaps the above is just simply outdated.

Brazilian sexuality has changed a lot since I’ve been going the last 20yrs.  In the old days, they all wore condoms without question, there was little to no kink community and sex was almost purely vanilla.  Now, it’s quite normal for bareback sex and the Brazilian fetish scene could rival NYC.

Not sure how I feel about Rhyheim w the Brazilians as it comes off as exploitive to me - what do they need him for ?  Brazilians are the hottest most passionate fuckers in the world and OnlyFans just isn’t that complicated.  He’s got to be making money off of them - and given the dire conditions of most Brazilians, I’d like to see them make all the money without an American taking a cut.  Rhyheim was a mediocre performer at best at TimTales, so not even sure what he brings to the table….except perhaps the photographer.

It's changed quite a bit. Mostly families, tour groups, couples (Gay and Straight). Still a couple of people that come for the Gay hookups.....I'm here now

May I ask why you choose an hotel over an airbnb? Specially when you want your place to be a play ground?

A little nostalgia, buffet breakfast, no problems bringing guests back, location, daily maid service and.......18 usd a night

Like on a cruise, I don't need lot's of space the pros outweigh the cons for me....I've had some crappy Airbnb's in Brasil and shitty doormen....

I've hooked up twice with guests staying in the hotel on Grindr....that's a first for me

It's been 15 years since I've stayed there and yes the rooms are very small and the old style AC can be noisy.  It's a great value currently and may work for some. When I stayed there price was in the $60-80usd range and then when the Real got strong the rate went to over $120. At the current price almost worth booking it as a second accommodation to use for hookups and for the pool.

On my first three or four trips to Rio de janeiro, I stayed at The Atlantico Copacabana, as it was "the hotel" where most of us from the other website/blogspot stayed.  The room rates were reasonable, breakfast served each day was semi-lavish and bountiful, and this particular hotel did allow guests.  Never did management bat an eye.  In fact, when us gay travelers had guests, the hotel personnel would welcome them proudly.

One afternoon, my hot Italian/Brazilian escort arrived at the hotel.  The assistant manager rang my room to let me know that my guest had arrived.  After this young man who had given me such a hot time decided to leave, I joined him and l went to Copa's main beach to meet his older Italian friend who lived in Rio.  When we passed by the desk, the manager gave me the thumbs up and smiled.  I felt good.

I'll always have fond memories and a warm heart for this hotel, and regarding rooms, they vary.  I've always had wonderful and pleasant accommodations at this hotel. 

When I manage to return to "The Marvelous City," within the next year or two-- I'll more than likely stay in an airbnb apartment.
