12is12 Posted May 12 Posted May 12 Direct flights to 3 domestic destinations, Malasia KL, 3 Russian cities, and 9 Chinese. Shows Chinese tourism dominance, but why not even 1 'western' destination? All the above according to Gemini; does anyone know better? Quote

PeterRS Posted May 13 Posted May 13 My guess is that western airlines already have Thai desintation airports at BKK and DMK. Adding a third at UTP would mean basing an another entire front and back office staff plus at least a couple of engineers there. It would not make financial sense. It only really works for airlines without bases at the other hubs, in my view. Quote
vinapu Posted May 13 Posted May 13 to put things in perspective based on my Jan 2024 trip when I flew from Phuket to Utapao. Ticket was about 40 $ more than one from Phuket to Bkk departing at roughly the same time. Owing to unfortunate Friday afternoon arrival time, it took me the same 1.5 hr to reach Boyztown by van , most of that spent beating traffic in city itself , that would take if taxi was taken from BKK using that 40 $ saved on ticket Quote
colmx Posted May 13 Posted May 13 Pre Covid both Fly Dubai and Qatar used to have flights to UTP I have never found UTP to be any more convenient than BKK/Suvanabhumi for travel to/from Pattaya vinapu, BL8gPt and floridarob 3 Quote

But their UTP and CNX flights were not non-stops. At least one of the legs also stopped at another Thai destination - most likely Phuket. Quote
