There are AI apps which, apparently, can bring your old photos back to life.

You take a photo of them on your phone and the app does the rest.

I don't think they are free but the results I've seen online are incredible, if true.

Thanks. I wish I had known some years ago! When i discovered the state of the photos, I decided just to throw them out. I still have most of the negatives but no idea of the state they are in. So I prefer just to rely on my memories.

I'd love to. Sadly since the 2008 financial crisis, my funds or lack thereof have made a lot of the travel I'd like to do financially impossible. But in any case, I doubt if the weather conditions at for example the Taj Mahal would now result in the fantastic clarity in November 1989. Seeing dawn break with the below-the-horizon sun resulting in a succession of multi colours over that magnificent building was mind-blowing.

You should take out the negatives and reprint the photographs to put into an album.

I will test one set as I am not sure if the negatives have also been affected over time.

I am not sure about Bangkok, but I know there are companies here in the US that will take old photos, negatives, videos, etc. and restore them.  My father enjoyed photography as a hobby.  He had a decent 35mm camera and a dark room set up in our basement.  He even won a few awards with his photographs.  Many of the family pictures are on slides.  My sister and I have kept the slides all of these years, but neither of us has a slide projector.  The nephews have never seen most of the photos of us when we were growing up.  We recently decided to take them to one such company that will take the photos and transfer them to computer files.  It has been ages since we have seen any of these photos, so it will be nice to reminisce and share them with the rest of the family.  You might be able to find a photo restoration business in Bangkok.

You have reminded me that there is a specialist photo shop near the foot of Silom just past the overhead expressway. I was a consultant on a movie some years ago (even got my name on the credits!) and the producers wanted to see a whole batch of contact sheets from an event that took place more than 25 years earlier. Took me several journeys to and fro and I was able to send quite a few to Los Angeles. Unfortunately none were used - but at least I got paid!
