May 24, 201214 yr there are more links to expositions of male nudes and pictures from previous exhibitions I always find the old 19th century photographs quite amusing. Considering how rampant all forms of sexual behaviour flourished under the surface in that era, the only way permitted for photos of nude guys was to have them pose in seeming unnatural positions. When I think of a legionnaire for some reason the French Foreign Legion comes to mind. I recall seeing a film many years ago based on some soldiers stationed in a remote fort in north Africa. Nothing happened (until the end)!! They must have had a lot of free time - what better than to take their uniforms off and pose au naturel. I don't suppose we'll ever know.

May 27, 201214 yr We should not restrict a discussion of the male nude to European art. Asia has an extraordinary repository of nude and partially nude figures. The erotic carvings which decorate some of Nepal's temples are well known - - those in Varanasi in India are almost legendary.

I'm afraid I don't know anything at all about the last artist. Woldn't it be good if there was a way to 'google' a picture or photo and find just the info you are seeking . . . I don't think these pics fall foul of the posting code. [ The reason I have desribed 'my' collection of bums as tasteful is so as not to offend anybody, How do we suppose pornography got to the state it has now? (For somebody my age who remembers a time when pubic hair was airbrushed out of female nudes the changes have been quite astonishing). Pornography got to where it is today by people; film producers, magazine editors, authors, photographers push push pushing continually against whatever the going 'norm' was at the time. Once that barrier was breached another one appeared and so on an and on until the present. Thank you, FH, your trio are an excellent accompaniment to than mine because for some reason I don't seem to have saved any derrieres from real guys as distinct from prints, sletches etc on my PC. I went through a phase a few years ago of saving lots of stuff on my PC but I hardly ever do that nowadays. I guess the novelty wore off. I've only got one more which I will post later today.

May 31, 201214 yr clothed can sometimes be as sexy as nude. Quite so. RE: The first photo in your last post FH. That water is unbelievably blue. As in shots with the sky as a backdrop, blue really seems to work well with the colours of the nude human form. Yes, blue has a lot going for it. Blue eyes, blue jeans (remember Venus in Blue Jeans), blue Greek houses, blue roses (do they exist?) . . .

June 1, 201214 yr That water is unbelievably blue That was probably me overdoing the colour adjustment to try and make the body more pronounced! But you are right about water and sky. David Hockney was, I think, one of the first to marry up the nude body against the blue of water in swimming pools. blue has a lot going for it Ah! You forgot blue cheese - mmmmmnnn love it! And guess what? They do exist! z - here's your pic reversed.
