Another accusation = guilt

Just as US Representative Eric Swalwell was about to become a front-runner in his run for California governor, former staffers have accused him of sexual improprieties, basically destroying his campaign. The story in the San Francisco Chronicle hadn't even been published yet before staffers quit, and supporters bowed out. The ink had literally not even dried before the axe came down. Representative Eric Swalwell played a prominent role in both of Donald Trump’s impeachments, serving as a House Impeachment Manager for the second trial (2021) and a vocal investigator during the first (2019). As a member of the House Intelligence Committee, he focused on charging Trump with incitement of insurrection and pursuing claims of obstruction. I was going to vote for him myself, but will have find someone else to support. Why spend money on a campaign when you smear someone in a matter of minutes? The reaction will be immediate, with permanent consequences, and no need for evidence!

Well, if Swalwell did those things, he's a major idiot. But this rush to judgment and acting before even pausing to think really gets to me. He's been a great Congressman.

Its very sad, as I said before, what happened to innocent till proven guilty? And the timing is very suspicious.

Very disappointing that society as a whole has primarily become a 'cancel culture'.   Why has this just now become an issue when he has previously run for office and been elected?  Why were these allegations not raised when he was running for Congress or reelection to Congress.  I hate this whole cancel culture way of thinking in the first place, but am highly suspicious of the timing of these accusations.

An exhaustive investigation MUST be done.  Too much nasty, shady shit happening in our govt now....

* However, IF Swalwell is GUILTY, he shoud/must be prosecuted just like any other person would be.....

But, MY gut is telling me, this is a Trump setup...... Swalwell is one of Trumps biggest critics and leaders of Trumps J6 trials...... HE is a top Trump target !

One woman was a former staffer. Others came forward. His staff are quitting. 

I find it unlikely that multiple women have all decided to lie about it. I find it unlikely that his own staff would abandon him if they didn't believe these charges.

I find it unlikely that the San Francisco Chronicle was duped by some Trump stooge. 

Otherwise good people do bad things.

Perhaps these public destructions of men will discourage others from doing similar things. The court of law and the court of public opinion have different standards, as they should.

As more news surfaces,  there ARE credible sources that report and CONFIRM the reports about Swalwell....   That's unfortunate and sad, and shows HE TOO is a hypocrite.

I can certainly stand corrected on my initial thoughts, with regret bthat the reporting might be True.... In that case, he needs to be gone from govt, and prosecuted for his behavior. 

Just shows you that you "shouldn't throw dirt on someone elses house unless your house is squeaky Clean !"

The SF Chronicle wasn't "duped." It simply reported the accusations. It did not say these accusations are a known fact. I most certainly don't discount the possibility the accusers are telling the truth. What I object to is the immediate knee-jerk reaction resulting in action before the facts are even laid out. It may be that , in fact, that Swalwell is a horny dumb-ass. Obviously, the timing is troubling, and there is also a possibility these accusations represent political dirty tricks. For one, I'm suspicious that the chief complainant states she was "too drunk to give consent," yet remembers the (repeated, according to her) sexual encounters so well. And if she remembers the first time, why would she put herself in that situation again? Once again, I'm not saying she's lying, but I'm bothered that a mere accusation can immediately end a career. What's wrong in having the facts laid out?

You don't know that. It would have been more reasonable to say "Looks like you fucked up," or "I believe you fucked up," or some other phrase acknowledging that things may not be as they first appear, and you have the maturity to acknowledge this.

Its not the accusations that will end Swalwells career, its HIS actions that did that, if the accusations prove True !

No, the accusations  will end his career, whether the accusations  are true or not. He may be absolved in 12 months  time, possibly unlikely,  but his career is ended now.

Powerful men often use their power for sexual purposes. JFK, Martin Luther King and probably Robert Kennedy all had multiple sexual relationships in the 1960s. I think there's an assumption the women were all willing participants. I'd be surprised if that was true in all the cases, I'm guessing a few felt they didn't have a choice. A close friend of JFK even told his fiance and then wife before their wedding that JFK would continue to have sex with other women after their wedding and if she couldn't accept that, she should end the engagement. Human nature doesn't really change.

The account I listened to, by the victim, sounds like she suffers from selective memory and that she drank heavily.   Not saying Swalwell is innocent.  I don't know.  But the timing of this accusation is troubling.
