Issue with Photos

I have reports of some issues with photos. Let me know here if any issues. 

1. The server will be upgraded in the next week as Invision Board now requires 5.0 version and it must have some software that is not on it (upgraded php and databases). 

2. The Board will then be upgraded.

Question about photos:

Is the policy of restricting XXX photos to the Photo page only still in effect, or has it been lifted?  I ask because XXX photos for some time now are being posted to open-read forums.  Thank you!

I have always wondered how this site is able to upload so many high-res photos. I usually downsize my pics to a reasonable pixel size but often wonder if that is even necessary.

I agree. Either the Board rules should be changed or the existing policy enforced. One or the other. My understanding always has been that there is a specific private XXX photo forum because most of the rest of the site is open to any reader. Hence any kid can open the Board and see the pics. I can't see the BIB agreeing to this!

Too true! But the BIB are not the ones patrolling and controlling the internet in Thailand although I expect they'd be the ones to extort the brown envelopes rather than hand out summons. The problem is that Thailand has one of the most censored internets anywhere. It would be reasonable to assume that someone is going to find naked pics some time - even though it ay be some years away.

Interestingly,  I've just noticed that the emails I get from "The Sword.com", are censored. I get the page, with pics of the various films available,  normally 5, but when you click on them they come up with a black  page, with an appeal to stop censorship, referencing Georgia, the state that is, not the country.

I have visited the Kukrit house, very near Sathorn Road.  It is well worth an hour of your time if you're in the area.  It's similar to the Jim Thompson house, in that it's made up of several antique Thai teak houses that were transported to the site.  Unlike the Jim Thompson house, you can wander the buildings and grounds by yourself, no tour guides are required.  On display is the former PM's beautiful collection of fine arts, ceramics, and Buddhist sculptures.  If I remember, it only costs 50 baht for admission.

True and untrue. Thalland bans a whole list of anti-society and other sites. As reported in The Bangkok Post in Janary 2020, Thailand scored 6 in a survey of online internet censorship in 150 countries. Others with that score include Yemen, Egypt, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia and others. As The Post reported -

During the Thaksin era 60% of sites were blocked for pornography and internet nudity. That has since been reduced but remains above 20%. The Beer Bar isn't Thailand specific.  My comment/question pertains all forums where XXX photos are currently being posted in violation of the published rule.  If there's a reason to prohibit that activity, say so ... or remove the ban.  Moderators have previously been questioned but are unresponsive.  Therefore, I'm left with the impression anything can be posted to any forum without restriction, and language to the contrary should be removed.

I have noticed a great number of JPG files being refused to be downloaded from my computer. This happens especially if I've modified the JPG file with Adobe Photoshop (such as by reducing shadows), but can happen with any JPG file. I've found I must convert to PNG files, which are universally accepted. I don't know the reason for this. Maybe PNG files are more immune to viruses than JPG? I doubt Adobe Photoshop is inserting viruses into JPG files! PNG files, of course, take more space, but sometimes that's the only way to send them over. 

As for the other issue of putting nude photos in the Beer Bar, rather than in the Photo forum, which is limited to vetted members, I do believe that, even if it's not risky by local authorities, it could get sticky with other jurisdiction. The safest thing would be move all racy photos from the Beer Bar forum and move them to the Photo forum (or delete them). I thought this was the rule already. Although I personally don't care, I'd hate to see the owner get into trouble.

I have also had quite a few .jpg files rejected. When I then copy them on the computer, even though they are still in the .jpg format some upload OK. But .png certainly works better.

I cannot understand why @TotallyOz does nothing about explicit photos appearing throughout the Board and not specifically resricted to the Members Only Photo forum. The subject has been on the front burner for close to three months. I'm wondering if the lack of any other moderator on the forum could be one reason - in that he does not have time to read every single post. When this site was gaythailand, there were usually three moderators. I wonder if the change to Gay Guides makes moderation more difficult?
