I am thinking of a trip to Sihanoukville after the New Year. Are there any hotels there that have really good high speed Internet? What are the best places to stay there? Any other recommendations?

Just got back from Phnom Penh where I spent a few days. Stayed at Manor House which was fine, friendly owners and staff. Rooms were clean but breakfast a bit limited in choice. Tuk tuks outside the guesthouse can be hired for $15 a day which is pretty cheap. Nightlife was OK, Blue Chili is the place that gets busy from 9.30 pm onwards but quite a few money boys. Nice waiters but owner seem to warn them off if you tried to speak to them too much! Drag show pretty hopeless. Heart of Darkness is the disco to go to, very very gay in one area by the dance floor an easy to meet guys. CQ disco (new) has a gay night on Fridays only - nice bar, nice crowd, drag show and cr…

Miss Blue Chili International Queen 2011 will be held on December 17. Starts at 9:30. Blue Chili is on Street 178 between Street 19 and Norodom. Excellent margaritas are just 3 bucks. Not sure of the format; a flyer of the announcement is on Ladyboy Review which has excellent up to date coverage of the Cambodian ladyboy scene. http://www.ladyboyreview.com/forum/index.php?/topic/748-miss-blue-chilli-queen-international-2011/page__pid__12549#entry12549 Blue Chili is one of two gay bars in Phnom Penh. The other is Rainbow Bar on Street 172 between Street 13 and Street19 which is only a few minutes walk from Blue Chili.

Last year I ran across this lecture and justI posted this on another web site in response to a statement by Z909, but can't help but feel it belongs here. It has to do with the essential requirement that government have external threats. With a corollary that the more a government has internal dissent the more it needs an external threat to justify it's existence. I give you professor Rodney Barker of Gresham College who is not the first to come to this conclusion, but presents it very well. Here is an excerpt. Barker wrote:Government, and obedience to it, is normally justified by the dangers which are thereby prevented This was the case put by Thomas Hobbe…

Got back recently from Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia. Here's as much as I could garner from a week's stay. Why visit Cambodia? Cambodia is a raw, developing nation with a fascinating history and beautiful people. It's next door to Thailand, easy to get to and very cheap. Cambodia has some of the world's most breathtaking ancient ruins (Angkor Wat, Siem Reap) a small but vibrant capital city (Phnom Penh) and an emerging beach side and seaside holiday town (Sihanoukville and Kampot). Cambodia cuisine is absolutely delicious and there is no alcohol tax so you can enjoy many cocktails and terrific wines from all over the world for next to nothing! It's fun and …

Will be in Cambodia for 4 nights for fun this weekend. Anything special I should do? Any bars you recommend? I have my hotel arranged so I am not worried about a place to stay. I did meet a cute Tuk Tuk driver on my last trip but I lost him number. Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated!

I have used this guy 3 times all ready in 2010. He is great. He is very Gay friendly, knows where all the gay venues are, and some non tourist restaurants. Last time I was in Phnom Penh I had a problem with my knees. Walking was difficult so I booked a small room at my hotel ($30). He helped me up and down the steps, found me companionship , and was an all around good guy. His prices are decent. Here are his details: Ya Chea , email: chea.tuktuk@gmail.com, or call him from Thailand, calls are cheap 017773460. He speaks wonderful English and has a great sense of humor!

Many of us have pondered a trip to Cambodia. The US State Department has just updated their advisory regarding travel to Cambodia. It contains a lot of information and can be helpful to those planning a trip to Cambodia. Have a good trip! tj Here it is: September 1, 2010 COUNTRY DESCRIPTION Cambodia is a developing country with a constitutional monarchy and an elected government. King Norodom Sihamoni is the constitutional monarch and head of state. Elections for Members of the National Assembly were held in July 2008 and are scheduled to take place again in July 2013. The July 2008 elections sent representatives from five different parti…

I am not sure what the effect of this will be. but I have to think that it is a good thing. Ex-Thai PM Thaksin quits as Cambodia's economics adviser PHNOM PENH: -- The Cambodian government said Monday that fugitive former Thai premier Thaksin Shinawatra had resigned as its economics adviser -- a role that had fanned tensions between the two nations. Phnom Penh said Thaksin, who was ousted in a 2006 coup and lives abroad to avoid a jail term in Thailand for corruption, had stepped down "because of personal difficulties in fulfilling his role completely". The appointment, announced in November 2009, came amid strained ties between the two countries bec…

I've never been to Cambodia. I'm thinking of making trip to Phnom Penh, Angkor Wat, and Sihanoukville. I would be grateful for any information you have about Cambodia - the gay scene in Phnom Penh, etc. I'm also thinking about going to Sihanoukville. If any of you have ever been there, I'd appreciate any information you can provide. Are there any gay beaches? I understand a gay friendly hotel in Sihanoukville is Deva Raja Villa ( http://www.devarajavilla.com ). Has anyone ever stayed there or can make other accommodation recommendations? What about currency exchange? Are there any ATMs in Sihanoukville? If not, is it better to bring US dollars, Tha…

Hi I am on a short tour of south east Asia in the next few weeks. After a trip to Yangon...Chaing Mai ..I also plan a 3 night visit to Phnom Penh. I have already visit Siem Reap last year but have never been to the capital. I would be grateful if any people whom have visited the city could give me a few ideas 1. What area of the city is best to book a hotel 2. Ideas of what to see and do during the day around the city 3. Night time massage, gay bars, cruising areas 4. I have seen some reports to say it is not same at night 5. Do the local people have ID cards as in Thailand and if so do the years work in the same way. If not what areas are be…
