  1. Did you consider that maybe it is the latex topper you bought for the bed at Fly Now? I friend of mine bought one and says his usual 8 hours of sleep have turned into 11 or 12.
  2. I have no proof of this, but I have thought for awhile it is the GAY tourists that are missing. If the gay areas are usually the places we go to, it does seem empty. But going to Central Festival for example seems fairly busy. Some of the restaurants there are also packed. Waiting for a table is now common
  3. TJ, I wish I would never have read this thread. ATKINS may help me loose weight but, look what I am missing! These recipes look so good! Thanks to those that publish them!
  4. Well if the friggin 'Queen of England' will be there it is a different matter. But I know the 'Tire Old Queen', TOQ, and I thought he could not be there? This contest, of trying to post a certain number of posts is, mind numbing!
  5. Several posters have told me how much they enjoy visiting Brazil. Especially Rio. In today's Bangkok Post, there is a story about 30 tourists being kidnapped by several gunman out side of the Intercontinental Hotel in Rio. "It looked like a war zone" with all the automatic weapon fire as the gunman battled police according to the article. What an exciting holiday. Sounds like Bangkok during the Red's occupation and Government take back
  6. I understand you want name tags. But how do you know that some of the specific posters you want to get to know, want to wear a name tag? They might not even attend. I know you ARE socially adept. But if there are certain posters you specifically want to meet, you could consider writing their posting names on a small placard and put it either at where you sit or wearing the small placard around you neck as you circulate around the room. You would certainly stand out, and any of the posters names on your list would certainly understand you want to specifically meet them. Also this would help you avoid meeting other interesting posters that you specifically don't want to meet as you wander the room. Problem solved
  7. Was it a good move to rename the restaurant Cafe Music? I believe there is value in a name. Especially when that name has been used for 15 years. Changing the name to Cafe Music can cause confusion at first. There must have been a reason for the change. The name is very prominently written across the wall.
  8. I think it is great that YaYa lets us know what is going on at his bar. I wish other owners would too.
  9. I had dinner this evening with a former waiter from Le Cafe Royale and his long time Farang boy friend. One of the things we talked about was why the food and service at what is now Cafe Music has slipped. The farang ate there at the opening and Saturday (?) and said he only eats 2 things there now, one of which is a hamburger. The Thai former waiter had some strong views. He is still friends with some of the staff. One of the things he said is that no one trains the staff any more. Some don't even know the English word for 'sour cream'. So when someone asks for "sour cream" for a baked potato, they don't know what it is. The other thing he said is "they don't care". The farang also said they have improved the sound since the opening. The special events, like Toi's Birthday brings in customers and I imagine so did El Duo's anniversary. So it seems that the management is trying. For those that attended how is the air conditioning now?
  10. Great map GT, and the Thai script is outstanding too. Now where is it? LOL
  11. Thanks for hosting this Meet and Greet, to both the new owners of GayThailand Board and the poster known as GayThailand. It is very generous. I plan to be there too. As far as name tags go, I am not sure it is a good idea since some people will be there who are either not posters or those that may want to remain an anonymous. I believe that GT is asking people to let him know, not post their name on a name tag to wear. Some posters do not care and others may be anxious to let people know who they post as. But in a Meet and Greet their posting name may not be as relevant as who they are. Possibly, RichLB's real name maybe Rich or Richard, but as an example, a poster named Slime could introduce himself as John. You would still meet him and when you see him later could say "Hi,John" instead of "Hi, Slime". So in my opinion, as RichLB has previously suggested, let people buy their own drinks, would it be ok to let people that want to wear a name tag, bring their own. Actually, those that choose to wear a name tag could be very creative.
  12. I do not understand. How did the girls get above you? Is there a stage or something? In Brazil I thought the macho gauchos served the food
  13. If you have seen a LifeFitness at a local gym, you might find out who owns the gym and contact them to see where sellers or re-sellers are. You probably looked across the street from Tony's gym on Third. I thought they told me the sold used equipment. Not sure
  14. Coincidently, I received a Newsletter this evening from my health insurer Anthem Blue Cross. I was surprised to see that they were being fairly positive about the Atkins Diet and mentioned that many people had great success and lowered their bad cholesterol on a low carb, high protein diet. " Low-Carb Diets Improve Cholesterol Long Term Low-Carb Diet Edges Out Low-Fat Diet in Raising 'Good' Cholesterol By Salynn Boyles WebMD Medical News Reviewed by Laura J. Martin, MD Aug. 2, 2010 -- Low-carbohydrate weight loss diets have an edge over low-fat diets for improving HDL cholesterol levels long term, according to a study funded by the National Institutes of Health. Dieters who followed low-carb or low-fat plans for two years along with a lifestyle modification program lost the same amount of weight -- on average about 7% of their body weight or 15 pounds. But throughout the two-year study, low-carbohydrate dieters had significantly increased HDL, or "good," cholesterol levels compared to low-fat dieters. Heart Risk Factors Improved During the first six months of the study, the low-fat dieters had greater reductions in LDL , or "bad," cholesterol, but the differences did not persist over time. The study is not the first to suggest that low-carb weight loss programs like the Atkins diet are safe and may be slightly better than low-fat diets for reducing risk factors for heart disease . But it is one of the longest to show this, says lead researcher Gary D. Foster, PhD, of Temple University
  15. I am truly sorry for the confusion I might have caused. I misread Gay Thailand's post. I misread the part where he said next weekend. I all ready sent him a PM explaining that. When I saw "next weekend" I thought he was saying the 21st or 22nd as in (he lives next door). Since I had not seen many confirming posts I thought that maybe he had dropped the idea. BUT I WAS MISTAKEN! After reading it againI should have understood that he was taking about a future weekend. I have no intention of hosting a Meet and Greet. I was going to pass on information about Cafe Music to anyone that might want to hold one. So please understand that there will be no Meet and Greet on the 26th unless someone else hosts one. I am not going to ask David, the manager about it. I will wait until GayThailand post as to where and when he will have a Meet and Greet. I have sent GT a PM to apologize for what some might have thought from my post. Thank you TJ for bringing this up.
  16. The time 6-8 has been a good time to meet in the past. There is a certain crowd that goes to Corner Bar each evening and that maybe why some suggest it. As an alternative, the new Cafe Music (Cafe Royale) may work out. They need the business since they just re opened and maybe they would be interested on advertising on the new owners' of GayThailand site. If I am around Boystown in the next few days maybe I will ask them. I will ask for a discount on there drink prices for that time (maybe they have happy hour prices). And then report back here.
  17. For those that know "Geezer" he has a patented designed shirt and shorts that foils the pick pockets. Each what appears to be a regular pocket has maybe four other pockets that are zippered inside of those.
  18. I actually did a bit of research before starting this Low-Carb approach. There is a science behind the reason to eat less carbs and then of course in the "Dr. Atkins' NEW Diet Revolution" the author provides good statistics. An example is French obesity compared to the US Obesity rate 20 years ago. The French ate alot of "fatting Food" but were not obese. The French tried to hold out against the fast food trend, but when it did take hold, their obesity rate went up. The problem I am finding is although I have been very faithful to the diet, I miss bread, pasta and fruit. Hopefully when i go to the 2 of the 4 phases it will allow me to satisfy some cravings. Exercise is very important, I understand, but why is it so hard for some of us to do on a regular basis? Dose posting to message boards count as exercise?
  19. I started the diet right after our romantic dinner at Chez Vickie. Knowing your boyfriend who is very handsome I knew i would have to do something dramatic to catch your frequent flyer miles, oops, mispoke, I meant your eye!
  20. Sure the laws are different. There are many Thai laws that I don't understand, and seem to be interpretative differently because there is not much case law. But common sense would have been to not participate in rally's where violence has all ready occurred.
  21. I have been holding off posting pictures until I know when the contest will end. I figure the newer pictures will have a better chance of winning. Have others been holding off for the same reason?
  22. Today I went to see my financial advisor in Pattaya. In our conversation he mentioned that if the November elections go off on schedule, they will happen right after the military rotation. The significance in this is that those Taskin appointed (5 year term) will be out of power in November. The thought is that if Taskin wants to still be an influence he will have until the end of October to do so. Some think, the new military appointees, will strongly be supported by the Royals. This may lead to the kind of rule that took place in the 70s, 80s and early 90s, when the government was actually ruled by the military Could this be one of the reasons we see so much about suppression of free speech and high increase in censorship in the media? The 3G spectrum auction has caused concern because of the perceived rise in Xenophobia, where "foreigners" may not be a majority which may be in violation of the EU fair trade agreement. Usually military controlled governments aren't very democratic. How many times has the military taken over power in Thailand??
  23. Two things. First it might be good to start another thread when GayThailand decides on the date. Second, I suggest that RichLB buy the drinks...
  24. At dinner the other night, Richard Burke, the owner of the now closed Amour Restaurant told us that his new venture "Street Life" will not being opening until probably the first of October. Delays in construction. Those not familiar with his plans may like to know that he is planning a NY style Deli, wine and cheese bar, and art gallery. Sounds like a big project. He is still negotiating prices with the different vendors so menu and menu prices are not available yet. Street Life is planned to only open in the evenings at this time.
