Bangkok Hospital, Chiang Mai, want Bht 17,000 for a colonoscopy under moderate sedation. The Sripat Centre (Private Wing of CMU Medical School at Suan Dok)  want a little less, but I don't have the exact figure to hand. Much cheaper than having it done privately in the UK.

As it happens, I also had a colonoscopy and an endoscopy at Bumrungrad apparently just a few days after Michael.  I concur fully with his evaluation of the hospital. Excellent in all regards.  I also live in Chiang Mai and am familiar with the two facilities you've mentioned.  For me, it is an easy call to decide in favor of having most of my medical appointments in Bangkok at Bumrungrad. Quite satisfied and pleased with them.

  2. What was the threat?

Scooby said - "Warning given to poster". Sounds like a 'threat' of possible further action to me. The original poster asked, "What is he (Gaybutton) really like?" You could have answered with a listing of all his wonderful qualities. I agree with khun12. Poorly handled, at the least.

"Welcome to your roommate. I hope he enjoys the site", you offer. It's doubtful he will, I'd say.

  3. Tawan Daeng, the music joint near me, also has a sign with a big X drawn over a revolver. Kind of a weird way to say "no guns" but it's maybe a reminder that things aren't always so calm and peaceful here in the Land of Smiles.

Love Tawan Daeng! Quite peaceful, as in 'happy', there. But 'calm'? Thankfully no, not with all that wonderful nonstop music. Can't wait to get back for another fun night!

  4. I think most people regard the Met orchestra as one of the top half dozen in the world, but as it plays mostly "in the pit", it unfortunately is not recognised as a symphony orchestra.

Speaking from the standpoint of being a professional musician myself, I'll say that this is perhaps technically correct with respect to nomenclature, but that is as far as I would want to go in agreement. I would further reference that Levine is a symphony conductor, having held various posts around the globe and currently serving as Music Director of the Boston Symphony.

  5. Depending on this reaction, Americans may suffer a lot in terms of loosing their economic freedom. It is not accidental that the number of wealthy Americans relinquishing their US citizenship growing exponentially fast.

    Voldemar,

I have followed your posting on this subject for some time now, and I've always found your writing compelling. While what you say may alarm some (maybe all of us...at least in the U.S.), I think there is substantial reasoning to regard your dire predictions with respect. You seem to come to your views from a position of insight. With regards to the movement of capitol (out of the U.S.), I understand you to caution that such movement could conceivably be restricted in the future. I would like to know what you would consider to be prudent plans, now, by anyone anticipating relocating permanently to Thailand within the next 3 years. I would be interested to know how you would prepare, knowing what you know now. Thanks!

  6. Accusing him of being loud and throwing his money around either shows a lack of understanding on your part or jealousy..

Hardly.... because, that's what most of his posts are about --- spending money and the delights of hotel and airline business class upgrades. Although obtuse, Smiles does have a point. As do you. Most of his (GT) posts seem to be just to 'up the numbers' and get some chatter going.

  7. My friend decided to build a house in CM for his bf. By the time they were finished with the construction the final cost was around $48,000 US. Not that cheap and they were out in the woods.

I'd rather have a condo in Pattaya or Jomptien!

Thanks for this post, Jason1988, as I have an interest in Chiang Mai. I wonder, do you by chance know any of the specifications of the house...principally, the size? And do you know the cost of the land? Thanks!

  8. ...as long as you have that letter on a company letterhead, the chances are excellent that you'll be provided with one.

And, is this regardless of the country of citizenship of the applicant? Thank you for this quite helpful suggestion, fountainhall.

  9. It's not easy overcoming a life time of inhibitions. ....So like everything else I do when I am afraid of something, I decided to confront my fear face on - but in a smart way. .....I told myself I'd make everyone think he was my friend (and not just "my friend" if you know what I mean) and took the next guy for a drink in the hotel bar openly before we went up to my room.

Xian, this is excellent advice and an excellent example of how to carry it out. People's feelings are most often complex issues and just telling someone to "get over it" may not work for everyone. You've given a good and helpful approach. Thanks.
