Got a chance to meet up with someone I met online, similar to Hooboy's meeting of Foxy ;)

I understand Columbia is a beautiful country with very friendly people. Their bad reputation in the USA apparently due to too much bad TV.

Well, maybe I'll see.

Do you remember Sebastian from Campus in NYC? He was the sweet looking young lad that spent a semester with me in Thailand last year. He spent many summers and months in Columbia and he loved it. He like the people and the country. He had great things to say about it.

However, I am not sure how safe it is. I hope you are careful. I also hope you keep great notes as I have always wanted to go there myself.

Medellin is like most other major cities in the world, it has its nice areas and it has nieghborhoods that you would not want to stray into unless you are riding in an armored tank with your heavily armed bodyguards.

Medellin may be the nicest city in Colombia, it has a pleasant year round climate and is surronded by mountains. The people you will most likely find to be agreeable. They are not particularly used to tourists, with a 50 year civil war going on, so service may not be what you would experience in Costa Rica for example, a country which relies heavily on tourist income.

As for the boy scene, I have not been there in a while, but there are nice places(ie bars) to go and a lot of the boys love Americans. I find it easier to meet guys on the street or in parks, They are very cruisy and it is not hard to strike up a conversation with a cutie after the requisite initial eye contact. A lot of the Colombian boys are good looking and you should have no trouble finding someone to suit your tastes. I am not talking about boys who are necessarily escorts or charging for their company. English is not widely spoken however, so if you do not speak spanish, carry your english-spanish dictionary.

In the past I dated some guys from Medellin and they are the best bf's you can have. If they really like you, you are really going to be spoiled. Cali and Bogota are also great places to visit and make new friends. Have a great time..

I have been in Medellin since Thursday. I came here to meet a certain guy and have not been disappointed.

I just wrote a long report but the site logged me out for some reason when I tried to post it, guess I timed out.

I will try again for a full report when I get home in a few days.

I traveled to Medellin Columbia to meet up with a certain hot guy. I was there 5 days and was not disappointed in the chance I took to meet this hot stud and who shared my bed each night. :+ My friends truly thought I was crazy but all worked out well.

Medellin is a beautiful city in the mountains of Columbia. I arrived after dark and the receiving hall and airport were very dark and military everywhere. The immigration guy spoke english and was very friendly telling me I was welcome to stay in Columbia for 60 days. Then I walked thru a door to get my luggage and was searched by the military.

Medellin has an active gay scene with several disco's and Gay bars. Due to the holiday "All Saints Week" and especially good friday most were closed. But reopened Saturday and we went to a Gay disco called "Splash". The place was packed with many hot guys and was a slightly mixed crowd. The whole place was one big dance floor. Instead of buying alcohol by the drink it was bought by the bottle with a bucket of ice and plastic cups. Because of this, there seems to be alot of over drinking. Music was techno with a video wall. Love how everyone screamed when Cher was shown, funny how people can be the same even in different cultures. As a Gingo I really stood out in the crowd and feel it could have been easy to have had other company but, my guy was a plenty for me. People were very friendly but english almost does not exist here. I was warned that there is a similar concern in Medellin that one would have in Brazil concerning drugged drinks and gum.

There is a heavy police/military presence and during my 5 days we were stopped by road blocks 3 times and I was physically searched twice.

I was surprised by the 2 very modern high end malls with stores like Diesel, Kenneth Cole, etc... Hotel choices are limited but the InterContinental was ok with a rate of just under $100USD per night. It is being renovated and the rooms abit worn. The pool and poolside restaurant were very good. Hotel service was sub-par and my last day there it took 4 phone calls and 7 hours to get a clock radio/alarm. Most employees could only speak spanish. On e night we passed an arena that was letting out and there was a huge crowd. It was the bull fighting arena.

The city was very modern and I felt very safe with my friend that lived there. I would not venture there on my own without knowing someone and would return to be with my sexy friend.

Leaving the country I was searched twice and went thru 2 metal detectors with my carryon.

I am glad to see that you were able to enjoy the company of one of Colombia's finest. The boys there are great, and if they fall in love with you ..well start registering at Bloomingdales. Colombia while beautiful and diverse, is not tourist friendly. They have been through a 50 year de facto civil war, drug war, right wing death sqaud war, kidnappings, etc. which has resulted in the extensive security measures that you experienced. It is too bad because the country has so much to offer. The capital, Bogota and Cali, to the south are also nice places to visit with active gay scenes where you can get an overdose of cute Colombian guys.

Colombia surprisingly has recently seen more progress with respect to gay rights than we have here in the US(or not surprisingly with our current administration). Its Supreme Court in Feb granted certain property rights to gay couples, and gays are able to serve openly in the military. I have never seen any overt prejudice against gays there. If you are wiling to tolerate the many inconveniences that come with being a non spanish speaking tourist, your trip may be full of pleasant surprises.

Medellin is definitely not a tourist town with the usual tourist places to go. But it is a beautiful country with friendly people.

Thanks for your comments and I will add that Medellin does not deserve the bad reputation that come from the images portrayed by bad American TV.
