  1. 1. Do you lie about your age in your internet gay-dating websites profile?

I was trawling through some Asian gay dating websites and I noticed how many men from my own country seemed to lie about their actual ages, even though the deception was easy enough to spot because they almost invariably chose to deduct an unbelievable number of years from the truth. That doesn't seem to happen too often with the Thai guys' profiles I looked at, so I was wondering if many farang also shaved a few years off when filling in their profiles. Quite frankly, I suspect that isn't so since most of the farang profiles at which I peeked had photos that seemed reasonable enough - and believable. Same for the Thai ones.

Before anyone accuses me of being racist, let me explain that it's just an obversation (and a conclusion) I have reached after ten years of occasionally trawling the internet for sex with men of mature years. As far as I am concerned, it really isn't my business whether anyone lies about his age, but I am such a nosy slut that I'd really love to know. I wish anyone who is creative about the length of his temporal existence all the best if he does...after all, who am I to say that someone who looks 84 but says he's 41, isn't actually telling the truth.

Still, I shouldn't really complain since the phenomenon has led to many people thinking I look young for my age. I guess that's why I noticed the number of '40-year-olds' on the net who looked as if they might have been my elder brothers at the very least. (I tell the truth about being 51 by the way...though I seem to have many gay ex-classmates who managed to have been born five to ten years after me).

PS

The poll ISN'T compulsory. I am not forcing anyone to take it but I'd be extremely grateful to all those of you who do because I am such a busybody.

Funny! That's what everyone says about me! And that's after I've shaved 5 or 6 years off it on the internet! :p

I know a farang who is a couple of years older than I am and his profile says he is younger than me. He has a photo in his profile which tells the tale in spite of the fact that he has had "work". Go figure! I would rather tell my true age than for people to assume I was a liar.

Unfortunately, I can't find anyone older than I am.

Lucky you! Do you know how many Asian guys lust for a venerable gentleman? Some actually prefer those with 'lots more to love' never mind those who have lots more love muscle.

A constant refrain from my dim and distant past was always: "Be your age!" I guess real v. internet age could be an issue with some Thai guys - at least judging from descriptions on gay romeo and other sites where some include the phrase "No liars". Once when I met a guy I liked, I got really worried about 'owning up' to being somewhat older than my stated age. Fortunately, it didn't matter because he preferred older guys anyway. But I fully accept that my mother was probably right and "Be your age!" should be my mantra in future!

Ahhhhh, Gay Romeo. I've noticed that many Thai boys, especially the money boys, will often lie about their age, but they don't say they're younger than their actual age. They say they're older. They do that, of course, if they're under-age but are looking for sex-for-pay. I don't think Gay Romeo even permits anyone to register if they say they are under 18.

Only yesterday I was looking at some of the personals. I saw an ad on Gboysiam that caught my attention because I could have sworn I had just seen an ad from that very same boy on Gay Romeo. I had another look at Gay Romeo and sure enough, there was that same boy, even using the same screen name. On Gay Romeo he said he is 19. On Gboysiam he says he is 15! And his photos make him look a lot closer to 15 than 19 to me. You have to be careful about things like that. That's why if I arrange to meet a Gay Romeo boy whose age seems questionable, I always make sure to check his ID card and I always arrange to meet them at some neutral spot first, but not my home until I've checked his ID card.

Also, some of these boys are not above grabbing someone else's photos or photos they've taken from other web sites and posting them as their own photos. I'm usually skeptical when they post headless photos. I'm also skeptical if they've posted shirtless photos, but I can spot differences in the photos, such as different tattoos, tattoos at differing body locations, differences in body hair, etc.

I guess I have been lucky. So far I've had only one incident in which I wanted to meet a Gay Romeo boy and fell for it about his age. I was going to meet him at a neutral spot. His Gay Romeo photos looked too young, but he insisted he was 18. When he showed up at the appointed location I told him to show me his ID card. He didn't try to lie by saying he didn't have it. He did have it and showed it to me. He was 16! I told him, "Very sorry, I'll see you in two years." He still tried to convince me to take him anyway. He said, "No problem. Police not know." I said, "I'm sorry. Maybe police not know, but I know. I do not take boys when they are too young. And you lied to me about your age, so I don't take you." That's when a very disappointed looking boy sulked away and I went to a bar.

The best solution to avoid the under-age boys from the personals sites is to make sure to check their ID cards when you first meet them. I never tell them in advance to bring their ID cards because the under-age boys will all too often try to pull the old switcheroo with their ID cards when they know you're going to check. If they show up without an ID card or try to give me some excuse for not showing it to me, I don't take them.

Hoi, Fountainhall! I never mentioned a thing about being your real age. Goodness, if we all had to act like "regular people" expected us to according to our real age, none of us would be in LOS looking for luuuve and/or love.

Besides, think of the nice little surprise your guy gets when you tell him your real age after making the earth move five or six times for him...

And GB, I agree with you about some of those young guys' profiles. As a long time web-trawler after naughty pictures, I can't begin to tell you how many of them use porno mag models' photos on the profiles I've seen at gay dating websites. It's quite funny when two or more use the same model's pictures and they appear on-line at the same time.

I guess the only case when people enter a higher age is when they are under 18. I have two friends (>20 and >40 years old) who make themselves younger on gayromeo. Actually, my Asian friend really looks younger, whereas I was suspicious about the age (on gayromeo) of my German friend.

If you are age < 18: add some years, age > 18: subtract some years.

From time to time, I come across a profile pictures that I've seen somewhere in the net before. In some cases, I even remember where and can check if I'm right. The record was a photo I saw half a year later, and I still knew I saw this photo before!

Having worked in the dating industry for many years I can tell you that just about all money boys lie about their age. And, everything else they can lie about. Ads on the Internet in 2001 say 19 and now, over 9 years later they say 22. I am not sure how 10 years became 3 but I wish I had the same problem.

I never lie about my age or my appearance. I much prefer for someone to know they are going to get a fat old man and show up expecting me than to be disappointed when they arrive at my door. Likewise, if someone misrepresents himself, I turn them away. I have only been suckered into letting someone who lied about age and photos and looks into my room about 100 times. (see, I guess it does pay off for them to lie a bit to get to the front door and then expect a horny man behind it hoping that he'll just invite them in.)

Goodness...no wonder the Thai bar guys are so happy to see me. I'm such an innocent abroad when it comes to them...almost like a virgin, in fact!
