I think you are right 125 %. While T0ol1 is good meaning I don't think simply purchasing an artificial eye on e-bay and just inserting it without professional input is good idea

Buy yourself one, you won't be jealous, no need to drive. We all have plenty of things we bought and don't use

yes , yes and yes. Whenever I arrive in BKK in middle of the night and walk through deserted Patpong at 3 a.m I say to myself " fuck, show me another place in the world where you can be in empty red light district in middle of the night and feel completely safe" and this is just an example of what I admire about the country- feeling safe days week , 25 hours par day. I'd not be throwing big words like racism at people who may not like this or that in other cultures or countries. Not liking Israeli airlines , not to mention politics does not make one antisemitic nor laughing at way UK is handling Brexit is reason to consider Caucasian inferior race. Adage you quoting is very wise and universal, worth teaching all who are considering or forced to relocate to other country or society and is a receipt for happier life. After all if one moves to Greenland and hates snow, what's the point. ( that's why I'd never move to Thailand, I hate heat and were missing 4 seasons ). Travellers are different category and should be given some slack as complainers. Often we find ourselves travelling somewhere just out of curiosity and in such a case we are not under obligation to like or even less praise of what we see. Very few people , if any , go to Auschwitz, My Lai or Killing Fields expecting fun

You mean one can buy an eye in Thailand on eBay for 330 baht, I did not get it / English is not my first language/

On almost every trip I use that approach of booking some hotels well in advance and some just before departure including some bookings when I'm already there and showing at the door without reservation so can say I did some research on the subject and results are the same like yours - very inconclusive. Apart from high of highs season like second half of Dec , first half of Jan and week around Songkran there are always rooms available so no danger of sleeping on the street or very expensively when arriving without reservation but I did notice very few spectacular last minute savings although they do happen but usually in higher end places and are very short lived. ( few years ago just before going to bed I got e-mail from one of our members that Raya has spectacular discounts on Expedia , I'm glad I acted immediately because in the morning offers were gone and it was something like 45 $ for huge Executive room with breakfast for 2 which rarely goes for less than 90-100 $ ). On another hand if somebody feels strongly about staying somewhere ( or definitely NOT staying somewhere ) my advice would be to book as soon as acceptable price will be available to avoid disappointments. If one doesn't really care as long as lodging is within desired area and price range than last minute bookings may produce some savings Additional perks like free breakfast appear more often well in advance than in last minute offerings. Thing to watch is free cancellation as often for 2-3 $ more we can have that option, handy is something better will present itself ( my case in Tarntawan in Nov 2013 when I cancelled earlier made booking and booked the same type of room there for enough savings to bother ) Another one is to look at all offers of the place as not necessarily cheapest one is the best, sometimes for literally few $ more one may get better class room with free cancellation and free breakfast instead of bare bones non -refundable offer in ' superior' room . (As we all noticed 'superior ' in many places means " superior to sleeping on the street" )

while I agree that Khao San is a tourist magnet I always wonder what is the pull of the place other then desire of young travelers to be in a company of their own kind. Like people are traveling all the way from say , Germany or USA to meet other Germans / Americans . Very little local color , no prime attraction nearby, inconvenient to get to and not very attractive part of town , honestly I'd be happy if somebody explained what is the reason for a place being such magnet

for reasons you outlined above , as i mentioned many times before , while I read review sometimes just for fun I'm not influenced by them at all unless they are coming from people I know at least just a bit / like people who are contributing here on the forum or other 2 Thai gay fora which I read more or less regularly /

one more thing I discovered just recently : when looking for hotel on HotelsCombined.com sometimes price shown on that comparison site for other site may be different than on site itself ie. for Red Planet Bangkok price on Agoda reached directly was 4 $ more than when one accessed Agoda through HotelsCombined link on another hand for PullmanG Silom on Agoda directly was actually 3 $ less than when linked through HotelsCombined so few more clicks may save say 20-30 $ per week

try this link from agoda, don't be intimidated by length of it, just click once https://www.agoda.com/pages/agoda/default/DestinationSearchResult.aspx?asq=u2qcKLxwzRU5NDuxJ0kOFzKB3GJyRBBHZf8%2Bv3E5Ekt7wSHHhPYk2zGmGWiijRCTmc8zEN25SrX%2BnLv23oPqL5ohSqQL1evrc4aKGcDDVSwrDc8ApX2p4jNAagsJ1soAJtzaC0cR0EvjdUUjzBo9YO2fvowMROMl2blx3hH3Th%2BvpAOzjwLqE6MvO5hS%2BUSA3PXigDsrTdOFuDpLfEPc69HhfYWbJrK1D3dm6jk2j%2Fk%3D&selectedproperty=10704&hotel=10704&tick=637003825570&languageId=1&userId=27ec5d63-f8c4-4e80-bcfb-a67a564d1d5e&sessionId=ppjmsqeh0kuiyvybn5irc1s0&pageTypeId=7&origin=CA&locale=en-US&cid=-1&aid=130243¤cyCode=CAD&htmlLanguage=en-us&cultureInfoName=en-US&ckuid=27ec5d63-f8c4-4e80-bcfb-a67a564d1d5e&prid=0&checkIn=2019-10-08&checkOut=2019-10-10&rooms=1&adults=2&children=0&priceCur=CAD&los=2&textToSearch=Le Siam Hotel&productType=-1&travellerType=1&familyMode=off

you are in joking mood today choice of venues clearly shows that not tourists were target so DivineMadman is most likely right (particularly about that democratic mandate I haste to add )

sometimes that slightly lower price on another site may actually mean something - few years ago I booked room in hotel in Merida , Mexico and on the same day friend I was going with booked the same type of room in the same hotel on another site but did not manage to get as good price as mine was. Upon arrival we found why - my window was facing wall of neighboring building, his room was few floors up and had a nice view.

absolutely, just enough is to recall perennial discussions about merits of twinks vs.hunks or how off putting or sexy tattoos are.

Welcome to the forum Yes you are lucky having money at your disposal as it is well known truth that free sex is expensive. We will be waiting for your October report !!!

Agoda and Expedia may be owed by the same company but on quite a few occasions I found either price or availability varied so I always compare both sites and find HotelsCombined very useful tool.
