Hate to disagree with you but the lack of customers was not the reason Meo Mundo became a shell of its former self! The two owners Jorge and Acir were very successful from 2006 to 2018, then the same thing happened to them that has happened to the others...they didn’t own the building and worse yet their space they occupied was owned by 3 separate landlords! and the one who owned the space from the entryway to the lockers and the bar showroom wanted a 4 X rent increase! that was the reason for its demise! not lack of clients! They were pulling in between $15,000.R to $20,000.R a month in profit and foolishly IMHO did not save for the inevitable! i make no assumptions on what. body type or age is preferred by the clients which is why you see a variety of types at all saunas but with a predominance of a certain types at each sauna!(for the record i have been dating a 37 yr old muscle guy for the past 3 years)but have gone with every type of guy over the years

I was told by a lawyer that he can put a upper age limit for guys working there but cannot stop them from going there it’s just they would have to pay the entrance fee we pay! I agree that everyone has different tastes in guys and my Namorado who is joining me in Mexico for the next two weeks turns 37 this Friday and is one of the sexiest guys I have ever been with!!(we have been going out for 3 years). As someone who has done a fair number of guys in their 20’s and 30’s there is a sexiness at least for me in the “older” guys! one guy i met up with this year is 35, i originally met him when he was 19 at 117. and i think he is more fun now then he was back then!

Paulerio, i don’t think your numbers are conservative! Remember full admission is not charged on the “busy nights” with the boys at 1/2 price! and rooms gratis! i won’t dispute your overall numbers as you may be better informed then me on this as my numbers came from 2 sauna owners who may have been exaggerating whereas your numbers may come from better sources! but...if it was as lucrative as you suggest we wouldn’t have 2 saunas fighting for existence in São Paulo a metro area of over 23 million people and looking like 2 surviving saunas in Rio! i hope i am wrong! Supposedly Monique has unofficially asked about selling 117 but said she wanted $ 3million so i don’t think she was serious!

Gotti i have been told numerous times by the various sauna owners that foreigners make up less then 2% of their revenues, they depend on locals to operate profitably! Which is why our/my suggestions over the years have fallen on deaf ears! lol They have said what is important to us or what we are used to in venues in the states is totally different then what locals in Brazil expect! and i can honestly say none of my suggestions were ever taken seriously! ...lol they probably wouldn’t have made a difference anyway, but i tried!

i have been going to Brazil 4 times a year(sometimes 5)since 2001. The first 10 or 11 years i spent my time in Rio and Porto Alegre and would just go to SP(Lagoa)on my last day there to fly back to the states. SP was just too big, like 10 NYC’s put together! So i avoided it as i was having a lot of fun in Rio and Porto Alegre and they were both easier cities to get around in then SP. about 6 or 7 years ago i started going to SP for my last weekend of my trips from Friday to Sunday night or Monday night! i have gotten to like SP more and more and my last 4 trips i stayed each visit 4 days there. I have really been having fun there and will probably spend closer to 1/2 my time there in the future! btw i will have a report on Bar Fama in SP soon just haven’t gotten around to it yet, but if you like sleazier surroundings and $40.R sex you will enjoy yourself!

To put some perspective into starting up and running a sauna, i had figures from another sauna’s monthly costs. I adjusted the numbers to closer reflect what i think Lagoa’s are, but i tried to be conservative so the actual costs to operate Lagoa maybe 10-15% higher then the numbers i give but are a good approximation! All costs shown are in Reias per Month! Rent. $16,000. lights/elect. 4,000. Salaries. 7,500. Insurance. 2,500. Police(payoff). 500. Gas/phone. 300. Kitchen sup. 1,000. Shows. 3,200. liquor/bar. 4,500 $46,700. total a month if you take a entrance fee of $60.r you need 778 customers Per Month to break even and before you start earning your first dollar of profit! PS: i think Rudolfo’s cost maybe higher because i know that part of the $700,000.R+ it cost to remodel was in a loan from the bank and we all know how high interest is in Brazil! Also they had a difficult time securing a loan because of the “type” of business they were going to be operating! they went to over a 1/2 dozen lenders before they found one that was willing to give them a loan! Anyway just some food for thought!

Tonight was Lagoa’s Opening night at the new location! I was told by 3 different people that it went very well although it still has work to be done it’s 95% completed! In attendance were Junior from Pointe, Jorge from Meo Mundo and Acir formally from Lions/Manhatten/Meo Mundo. They all said they thought it was done well. Considering that you can’t really compare it to the old lagoa, which was 3 old homes connected together for the past 21 years, this is a old building that had been stripped to the outside walls and everything needed was brought in new! Everything from the tables to the seating to the sinks and toilets etc are brand new! i am looking forward to seeing it when i get to SP February 7th,

how much cheaper are you looking for? it is around $37.50 US now!

i don’t think Rudolfo will pass up on a Friday nights revenue even if the place is not 100% ready! i would be willing to bet it will be open tomorrow night!

When i am in SP, if it is after 10:00pm i take Uber. the cost is immaterial when you are talking about safety and several people i know like have been robbed in São Paulo in the evening walking to/from the metro! just my 2 cents! Uber is so inexpensive it is not worth the risk to me to save a few $

i heard that last Friday formally their biggest night there were only 11 customers and they now owe 3 months back rent! I think the end is near! it is too bad as it is a nice venue if they could pull it all together!

as stated in the original post there are 11 suites, all have private showers and toilets!

The photos are pretty accurate of what i saw last Monday although i think he might have been looking for the worst shots! When i saw it it had been cleaned up for the day! The first photo is of the showers in the main room straight ahead and to the right is the downstairs bar. The second photo is golf the curved stairway going up the 3 floors. the third photo i think is some of the suites in the background, the 4th is the curved ramp from the lower entrance and is a ramp for disabled. and i have no idea what the last photo is! the suites are 90% done not sure why he would take 2 of the 5 photos of stairways/ramps and none of the suites which are all completely new? Also the stairs are wrapped in construction paper underneath that they looked like a nice quality wood! Remember there were no walls/rooms in this building! just 4 floors of open warehouse space! It is not the style layout i would necessarily would have selected BUT i am just happy there is a new sauna to take the place of Lagoa! I have been around many construction sites in my life and was involved in building several 20,000 + sq ft building and they all looked similiar to this at the same stage! I agree with SoulaceSoul that there is a lot to get done by the opening date, but enough will be done i think that there will only be minor inconveniences for clients! i asked Rudolfo what they would take with them from the old place and he indicated very little! outside of bar equipment l! they are getting brand new lockers, chairs, stools, beds, sinks and toilets(there are a lot of toilets in the new place!)

I think you are getting too far afield here! the place has been operating for 7 years no problems and is listed as a spa with massages. there is no signage on the outside of the building. prostitution is legal in brazil but no one but the prostitute can make money off it, so the spa’s cut(or sauna’s) they can say is for room rental/entrance fee which is what the saunas we are all familiar with do. the point of my post was to tell everyone about the spa and the guys working there not a in-depth review of how they operate/make their money etc! Just what we customers can expect when we go there!(every business in Brasil pay off the police, i know the saunas pay roughly $400.R/wk

It looks like a single family residence and we were there from about 2:30 to 4:00 pm on a monday and saw no activity of any kind going on. another positive feature is the taller apt bldgs to the side and back of the property have no window to look down and the house next door is single story as well as the 3td floor balcony overlooking the front now has the black metal over it as well as sound proofing insulation so that should take care of most objections from neighbors.

i have used uber exclusively the last 2 years in Brazil m(Rio/SP/Porto Alegre) love them!! When i left Lagoa in SP Monday evening the Bellman at Lagoa asked me if i would hire his friend rather then Uber i said no lo problem if he was close to the same price! He wasn’t! Uber was $68.R vs $120.R for Taxi!

I had heard about them before but did not really have a interest in going since 1) anonymity isn’t important to me 2) the number of guys is significantly fewer then in a sauna and 3) I enjoy the socialization that takes place in a sauna! 4) i don’t really enjoy the massages that much! When i have gotten one all i do is lay there and think about the sex i want to happen! :-) But knowing 3 guys that work there including two that had been to Mexico with me the past year i decided to go and was surprised by how nice it was and clean and professional. i opted for the hour of sex each time not the 50/50 massage-sex combo! Of the 7 of 12 guys working there that i saw 5 were very attractive to me and the other 2 were bigger Muscled guys that i was not attracted to, but i am sure many would be be!
