@aaroninatl, I did some research today and I see that the Koh Samui gay scene has kind of shrunk from when I had my big trip there more than 10 years ago.  That cul-de-sac street that I spoke about where there were around 3 bars clustered together - it appears that now there is only 1 bar remaining.  It is:

Thanks to @emiel1981 during his visit to Thailand in December 2025 I was able to accompany Emiel and visit my first Sky Bar in Bangkok = Akara Sky Hanuman in the Phloen Chit (Lumphini) area of Bangkok.  I truly enjoyed our time there and I have desired to do it again.
Yesterday presented that opportunity as I decided to celebrate my birthday at the Zama Sky Bar - here in Jomtien - which sits on top of the 38th floor in the  D Varee hotel.
As of now, August 2026 - it is the highest sky bar in all of Pattaya - as the other sky bars only reach 34 or 32 floors.  But, there is a lot of construction going on in the Pattaya area and I believe that the Grand Solaire will be the tallest when completed at 67 floors.

I invited the 3 players from my Jomtien Complex TenPin Bowling Competition, where I sponsored the Sunee bar, my Thai BF and his best friend - so it was the 6 of us.  During one of my health walks last week I had visited to make the reservation and as it was in the late afternoon they let me walk around the 2 different distinct floors to choose the best table - which I chose on the upper level which was in the extreme corner where the sweeping views of the Jomtien Beach skyline and Koh Larn are beautifully visible.  Unfortunately, during our dinner it lightly rained on us but we resisted to be moved to the lower floor to be seated in an internal space.  As it was so cloudy, the sunset was almost non-existent.

While we were enjoying our drinks, the maître d' presented us with a nice bottle of Welland Barossa Shiraz - I was perplexed - and the maître d' explained to us that one of my friends back in Europe had instructed the Zama Sky Bar to surprise me and present this wine to us.  This was truly an incredible surprise and very much appreciated.
Afterwards, we ordered our dinner from the menu - note that the menu is only in English - which made ordering somewhat difficult - as all of my guests were Thai - but they were great at using the translate feature on their phones to help them decide what to order.  Here is a link to the menu:

We had to dedicate one chair at our table to hold the lovely flowers that were given to me as well as the presents.
Our food was served and during our meal - it was time for the Zama Sky Bar show - where the bartender is juggling flaming bottles and bongo drum dancers are circulating around the restaurant going to each table.  Eventually they reached our table and Khun Dew "volunteered" to be the lucky one to beat the bongo drums - it was very entertaining.

Zama_Skybar_Bartender_show.mp4   Zama_Skybar_bongo_drum_dancers.mp4   After finishing our meal, our waitress delivered 2 birthday cakes to our table - another perplexing moment for me.  I had purchased a cake earlier that afternoon and gave it to reception when I arrived and with the 2 numbered candles I told them in which order they needed to be in to express my proper new age.  Unbeknownst to me my Thai BF had also delivered a cake to the restaurant when he arrived - he arrived after us as he came directly from his job.  So, the waitress had placed 1 of the 2 birthday candles on each cake - so "double your pleasure".  The restaurant staff comes to your table and sings the obligatory Happy Birthday song.  There were many birthdays last night being concurrently celebrated.
My Thai friends enjoyed their meals - but they would have preferred dishes that are more spicy - and with the menu only being in English it made things somewhat difficult to understand what dish could be the most spiciest to their liking.  As this is mainly a tourist type of place - it is geared to the palate of foreigners.  Anyway, they enjoyed themselves nonetheless as they had endless opportunities to update their social media feeds with these exciting photos and videos.
Afterwards, we went back to Supertown in the Jomtien Complex to continue the birthday festivities, first at the Sunee bar and then we finished at the M Bar.
I share this "review" with all of you in case you may want to do something different and unusual during your stay in Jomtien - that is very similar to the many skybar entertainment places found in Bangkok.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

Happy to recommend this as well. Been on my to-do list for a long time. Location is on Trappraya Road, just up from The Bus Station, View Talay 1 and just before Grande Carabbean condo.
Definitely the best quality Italian in Jomtien. Inside and outside dining, approx. 30 covers inside, good extensive wine list, and food service on point.
Shared starter, 2 mains including a melt in your mouth Aussi tenderloin (Fillet, Filet Mignon or Eye of Fillet if you're Aussi) steak, bread, wine, Italian Brandy and a couple of Expresso's, change of 3000. 
Going back Saturday to investigate the wine cellar in more detail.

One place I forgot to mention- my partner will be furious as it's his favourite- is   MK. Branches in Central, Big C, T21 and Lotus ( Outlet Mall).  The duck is the best I've had anywhere. I've not met a Thai who doesn't adore this chain . The waitresses (and a couple of slightly shy waiters) used to perform a dance at 20 00 to entertain diners. It was on Youtube.

In Jomtien there is Marcos, an Italian style restaurant on  Thappraya Road Pattaya close to entrance to Jomtien Complex. Very popular!

For Mexican, then Buenos Mexican in JC, just down from The Wine Cellar, else a short Bolt or BahtBus away (heading towards Pats), is Mike's Mexican.
For French then Yupins in JC, across from CockA2, or Natan's which is on Trappraya Road, across from Take Care Bar which is a live rock music venue, or up from Lone Star Saloon Bar if you like your live music Texas and Country.

In terms of posh Thai, then May's on Trepprasit Road. Else for cracking value Isan, then Zaab High, to your left as you look out from the front door of TukCom. Be warned, if you ask for it hot, it will be!!
For Italian, then with a family feel, Salotto on Trappraya Road, just up from Tinnies Pies, which is ripper Aussi Tucker. Bewarned. Salotto's pizza's are big! Else Tattoria Delina which is at the back of the Jomtien Bus / Coach depot.
For traditional English pub grub, then Hemmingways on Trappraya Road, on your right as you exit JC. Sports bar fee, so plenty of TV's.
If it's late night alcohol soakage you're after, then none finer then 2 or 3 7/11 hot ham and cheese toasties!
On the other hand, for all you can eat Surf&Turf, then The Hilton over in Pats, do a good quality Smash-And-Grab buffet, they also do an unlimited wine option at 1300THB. Depending on if you have a Hilton loyalty status or not, you can get upto 25% discount off the bill.

Pupen seafood was touristy but enjoyable. Lots of locals eating there so it must hit the mark for them. Plenty of seating when we arrived early at 5.30 and nice beach sunset view. Overall good value, usual wisdom when ordering seafood applies. Worth mentioning that staff have no interest in upselling you as their job is to serve you as efficiently as possible so they can turn over, though they may point out specials. Compared to the scammers on Beach Road. 

Lung Sawai just a minutes walk away is also recommended online though I’ve never been.
stay away from the other “recomended” seafood  spot Moom Aroi, might be good for locals but as a foreigner I found it poor 

If you’re the bougie sort, Cave Beach Club and Glasshouse were nice. 
 

My recommendations were Sandbar (with reservations concerning the menu) and Pon's in Terminus 21, without reservations.

It comes from the "spoils" they've received from other Farangs and the "generous" tips and gifts they get from them, thus raising their perceived worth. Then when you or someone pays them market value, 1200 in pattaya 2000 MAXIMUM in BKK, in my experience and eyes....they get upset/angry/hateful.

This is what I believe and have preached for 25 yrs as it was preached by the ones that came before me. I see it to some extent in Brazil, although not very much. 

Again, @gayinpattaya said these guys do pretty well overall in their country, to which I agree. I've said these guys do pretty well, in their country. Yet many customers throw money at them for not completing their "acts", not showing up, showing up late, falling asleep, etc..... building a generation that thinks they don't have to do much, yet get paid.... how many hours do they "work", not sitting around on their phones, actual work? How many hours do the construction guys work and difficult work and how much do they get paid?

It wasn't like this 25 yrs ago, but the popularity of Thailand wasn't was like it is today and neither were the prices. They talk amongst their friends/co-workers and I'm sure stories get embellished and then they each try to make their scores with their client list, just like a politician doesn't ask for donations from 1 person, neither do these guys.

This is a generalization...and it really applies to a large percentage of guys in this trade, there are always the diamond in the rough or the true good guys out there..... the trick is finding him and not turning him into another one of "them" by spoiling him by throwing money at him, even if you have to pay his rent 😉

Flew here from Surabaya on Lion Air. Many people in Jakarta told me not to fly them, horrible record.

Check-in was efficient, line moved fast, flight left on time, was only 40 minutes and arrived 5 mins late. Since it was Chinese New Year weekend coming up, Bali airport was super busy and my luggage was the last one out....yeah, I was getting nervous. So much better arriving Bali domestically than International.

Was waiting for Grab car when an independent driver convinced me to go with him for the same price, Grab was moving really slow in traffic, but as usual, nothing is at it seems. The indie taxi was in a garage and it took us longer to get out of the garage than Grab would've taken.....

Staying in Seminyak at the Primera hotel, an old IBIS, small rooms but super convenient to the bars and beach, $25 usd a night with minifridge and a balcony, cheaper rooms run 17 a night.

Met a guy on Grindr while in Surabaya that was in Bali, since distance isn't shown in Indonesia, it's common to move into an area far away while scrolling. Hooked up with him 2 nights, wasn't a money boy and had a thick dick with a big head, he was horny as a mf. That's a common theme in Indonesia, even the mb's don't get clients as often as Brasil or Thailand, so they come loaded and ready to shoot.

We did go to Elegantz sauna today, from the online reviews, I was expecting more....was busy, but nothing worthwhile for me. I would've been better using that time for a nap, won't return there.

Also went to the Hard Rock Cafe, I know the manager from years ago in Jakarta and he always treats me like a VIP whenever I stop in, The kid from Jakarta is impressed with the benefits from Hilton status and knowing the HRC guy and manager and cashier at Mixwell, boy will he be surprised at Conrad tomorrow, lol

Probably won't have anything else noteworthy  to add to this trip unless I get married or he robs me....then  off to Manila after.

I got a message from someone in a group (straights) that I've Cruised with before on Princess, that one of our female friends that was an awesome person passed away last night while on the ship from cardiac arrest....boy did she love cruising. 

Makes it even more important to realize, we don't know when our last day is.....enjoy it while you're physically able to 🙏

I feel I need to do a short write-up of my experiences in the Northeast - I left some bits and pieces in comments elsewhere in various topics, but let it be a standalone post.
I really really like Nordeste - guys are more down-to-earth and they care more about you, there is more chemistry and less rush, it's cheaper, it's sunnier. The choice is not as wide as in Rio or SP (even though I have doubts about SP after my two recent trips, but I digress) - but it takes one/two/three guys to make your night, and even if it's four great GPs and not 20, you'd still match the necessary numbers so to say.
Fortaleza. I visited a few times before the pandemic, during the pandemic, and as recently as earlier this month. The sauna to go is still California. It's not as bursting with excellent garotos as 7 years ago, but it's still quite busy. Over my week in Fortaleza this January, I found out that no day is totally dead. Best days are Thursday and Sunday. Thursday is when all GPs are naked or with a towek wrapped around their dick, plus there's a stripper. The stripper has two outings a night - first a regular strip, but he goes from the stage to the audience to interact - in my case, he sniffed and licked my neck pressing his body into me. The second outing afterwards is with his dick hard - and then he goes to the audience in a similar fashion so you can defo touch. No extra tips that I've seen.
Friday at California is a curious night of the "Wheel of Fortune" where there are three client winners spinning the wheel to get a prize (like a free entrance, or a free suite). On a Friday I visited, an older gentleman won the prize I really really wanted to witness somebody winning: two meet skewers from the kitchen. He could choose chicken or pork. Somebody needs to make a movie out of this.
Suites are excellent at 30 reais - but on any given night only a maximum of two out of four are operational. There also free cabins, like in Barcelona's Thermas and people use them a lot (GPs flip a mattress and wipe the surface with an antiseptic). Condoms are free and plenty available. Guys are of varied shapes - there are quite a few of those who let's say are not frequent gym visitors, there are twinks, there are bigger muscular guys, and there are a couple of stunning guys with hard lithe bodies like at 117 or better - they are obviously straight, and even though one of them told me he is, quote, 99% top, he and all others did bottom for me. Fucking very straight muscular guys is still a pleasure for a bottom guy like me. TThe universal rate in Fortaleza, as elsewhere in Nordeste, does not depend on whether the GPs are out of shape or stunning muscular - it's always 100. Even if some tried to say 150 seeing me as the only foreigner in the sauna (in all three mentioned cities), all immediately and easily came down to 100 when I mentioned I know the universal rate. Some of course earned extra.
Dragon sauna is the best in Brazil in terms of facilities, but it is empty with GPs, even during their big events. There are a couple of them at best, and they are quite jaded ones - it's better head to California. I really don't understand why it's not happening with Dragon - I can only assume it's high entry fees for garotos, as in terms of facilities there's no even comparison between Dragon and California, but all GPs and their clients are still at California.
There are more cruising bars, like the ones that opened in Rio - Rommeo, Eden, or others - but they are very non-GP ones. I've been to Eden on the night they advertised a live sex show with a visiting porn star, and the vibe was very non-GP - lots of people, incl some young ones, but none appeared to be rentable. Other than that, Fortaleza has quite a quirky underground non-sex LGBT scene - Berlin-style techno parties at The Lights on Fridays and Saturdays, and samba at Teresa e Jorge bar where there's quite some gay presence.
Recife. That was a major surprise. I visited this month for the first time in a few years - I think I did one trip early into the pandemic, but not after that. I remembered there were two saunas - Boa Vista and Blue Thermas - which were normal saunas but with some GP presence. On a visit this month, I was pleasantly surprised by Boa Vista - so much I spent all my three nights there without even visiting Blue Thermas. Boa Vista is the main sauna where quite a few non-hiring Recife guys go, some of them are simply stunning but not GPs for some incredulous reason. However, there is quite a substantial presence of GPs in the sauna, and I had multiple romps. Same as Fortaleza, the universal rate is 100, suites are at 30. On all nights I had their best suite which was itemized in my bill as "presidential suite" - it was 40. 
There is a maze, there are free cabins, there are open showers, it's actually quite a modern clean and very busy sauna where GPs are a fixture but not the main element. Still, you can have lots of fun. I had incredible experiences there, including with a guy who had great muscles and a great smile but was really nervous throughout but very attentive to my needs - when we showered (and the presidential suite has a large shower cabin with two shower heads so you can shower together with a guy and may continue to romp there) he told me he came from a rural inner state area and this was his first ever visit to the sauna and I was his first ever client. As he was visiting from the village, he was planning to stay the night in the sauna - it's open all night and serves free breakfast at 6am to those who are still there. 
Boa Vista also has a separate hall open on weekends which is pretty much a nightclub dance floor - with distinct 1990s high school prom vibes, but lots of local towel-clad patrons dance there which I think is really cute in its strange way and not something I've seen elsewhere in Brazil in saunas.
So actually Recife was a blast. There is an interesting gay quarter 5 mins drive from Boa Vista with a proper night club and a few funky gay bars - I stayed outside on the street with a caipirinha and just observed the crowd. Really good.
Sao Luis. I will mention Sao Luis as I don't think there were any reviews, and I've been possibly three times there, though not since 2021 or 2022, I think. They have a very decent GP sauna called Go.61, or it's called Sauna Go on some of their socials. It's sort of California style, very similar to what Fortaleza has, but with an added bonus of a swimming pool. There are similarly cheap suites and drinks, as well as plenty of free cabins on the upper floor. When I visited, I met really cool guys - again 100 was the usual rate. The best days are Thursday and Sunday. Sometimes they have performances, or bingo - at other times it's usual karaoke or just simple fucking, no complaints. 
Sao Luis is a really good city. On Friday nights, the whole historic center (where the sauna is, btw) turns into one big street party. They also have a week of June fiestas which is pretty much a carnival in June. An hour long public boat ride away with a severely drunk boat captain brings you to the island of Alcantara which is a ruined colonial city lost in time and space - a great day out.
That all pretty much sums up why I liked to come back to Nordeste all recent years - and sometimes (but not always) it's an even more satisfying experience that the meat conveyor belt of 117/202/Lagoa in Rio and SP. Long story short, there is life on other planets in Brazil.
 

I'm ready to go to sleep, so I better write this while I still remember what I did today, wasn't much, but details can get lost during sleep.

Woke up about noon today, early for me. Ordered Thai food from a little hole in the wall, near Ambiance on Grab. $2usd delivered and I'd put the food against ANY thai restaurant I've been to.

Went to Jomtien beach about 3pm, with the sole reason to get a manicure/pedicure.....a mamasan that used to work at Cupidol does amazing work and I get my change when I pay.

Then she recommended a massage guy for a foor/leg massage...300 baht for 1 hr, he was decent and a good conversationalist.

After the beach I headed to Sansuk sauna, was Sunday about 530pm and was quite busy. This is only my 2nd time there, my 1st time wasn't busy, however was mostly Asian guys,  had fun. Last night, almost all foreigners, blah.....I did hook up with a Canadian Chinese guy, with a tiny dick....I knew how this was going to end....was like throwing a hot dog down a hallway.
He couldn't stay hard, I didn't feel a thing,  we both made excuses, I told him I lived in Brasil, he didn't get it, lmao.

Headed to Nice Boys after there, with not that much cash. I had more in my room, but don't like going out with too much, in case it gets lost.

The drunk guy that's usually obnoxious about asking to buy him drinks was either on the wagon or it was too early, but he's just as obnoxious sober.

There were 3 guys I was interested in and could have gone with just about any of them, was interesting.

One 20 yr old short guy, was def my type. He sat with a Japanese customer, they messed around a little and then customer left, without giving a tip, I was told 🙄

The lady mamasan advised against trying to go with him, she said he was new and too shy..... but did I listen, no!!!

Since I was short on cash, they said I could pay the boy his off and his fee all at once, when I got to my hotel.....we never made it that far. Once we lft the bar, the kid wanted to take a moto taxi to Ambiance. I told him it's closeby and we could walk. His face looked like I just asked him to donate a kidney, lol

He REFUSED to walk....good thing I hadn't paid the off yet. I went back in and explained what happened, none of the other boys could believe it and a few said "I'll walk with you".

I was annoyed by this point, so I walked to my hotel for more cash. Went to Dreamboys to talk to a few people outside, they are always so friendly. Nothing was too intersting for me, so I walked by the same massage shop as last night. The more we got into details about where to do it in the shop or my room, seemed to be getting too complicated and I left, telling the guy from last night, we'll talk later.

Then I went to the massage place on South Pattaya road, I think it's called Paradise? A couple of guys were outside and I acted like it was my 1st time in a place like that. Massage sample from 2 guys that I was choosing from...then I made my choice. Half way thru the massage, came the "do you want me to suck you?" question. He was super cute, for me, but I only wanted a chuck wow and he agrees. He pulled his pants down, great ass and a child sized penis, oh well....he was impressed with the size of my dick, which isn't saying much coming from him 😁

Finished and paid him 700 baht, which is what we agreed on, even though he asked for 1000, the Canadian Chinese guy was huge compared to him. I'll give him credit though, he followed instructions perfectly.

I think I'll become more like @reader, at least if the sex isn't good, you have the chance of something of a massage.

Flew Singapore airlines flight from New York- Singapore, used miles for Business class- was a bucket list item- Longest flight in the world, solid 19hrs.

I liked it better than dividing the trip in Tokyo, got way more sleep and then a 1:45 flight from Singapore to BKK instead of a 6-7 hr flight from Narita.

Went to VIP immigration section upon arrival, was kind of full,  I followed a Thai guy that just snaked his way in between everyone with kids, they were too busy taking care of the kids, that we went unnoticed.

My bag was 1st one out and found Mike Taxi right away and off to Pattaya we went.

Staying at the Ambiance, booked this a few months ago and got 5 nights in a king superior room for $97 usd....comfortable beds, nice towels and sheets, convenient to everything and the receptionists all know me....

Took awhile to defrost the frozen mini fridge, so lost whatever time gained in BKK, ADD about certain things 🙄
Walked around,  stopped by Paradise massage and a few of the guys caught my attention....the one that spoke English, wasn't the best looking, but had something about him that attracted me to him, I asked him for a sample of his massage and it was really good....I told him maybe tomorrow, and went to Dreamboys to see a few guys I know to check on them.

With the price quoted at Paradise, all in...seemed like a better deal than the go-go bars, so I asked the guy that since it was almost closing time, if he'd come to my hotel, obviously he said yes, he hadn't had a client in 2 days....( he's not THAT ugly).

Did EVERYTHING that I asked, only didn't give me the full hr massage that he promised, so I explained to him that's how to lose repeat business, over stupid shit. He promised to make it up to me if we go again, let's see...I'd go with him again.

Grindr is very active...it's 5 am, I'm ready to sleep....tomorrow my plan is Jomtien about 2pm for manicure/massage on the beach then try Sansuk about 5-6pm and maybe another round with the Paradise sauna guy, or someone else from there.

Since I'm not very good with trip reports, I'm going to try to report a little every day....see how that goes.

Pic is of the Singapore seat made into a bed, other than Gulf Airlines first class....I think this is the best bed for flights to Asia.

 

This more resonates with me when guys make the deal to be taken off, knowing what the deal is, sex, massage, drinks, etc.... and for how long.  Then when they are OFF, things change. When I was top, I heard YOU TOO BIG (I'm not), or as a bottom they can't perform, usually because they end up being more bottom than me or supposedly straight 🙄... or if agreed we go for drinks, they order something expensive to only take 1 sip and let it go to waste...or excuses why they have to go home/work, we've all heard those stories.
If they don't live up to the agreement, I then pay what I feel like our time was worth, I've paid zero as well, the shocked look on their face 😲 shows that they are used to getting their full pay for doing nothing. It's no different than  the scammers that want to make a scene if you don't pay them more, I tell them to go ahead and make a scene, it'll affect them more than me, I stay at hotels where I'm known.

Then there are the clients that just go ahead and pay full and some with a fucking tip on top of that for a boy that did nothing, or pay the scammers to not create a scene......this just promotes more of this cancer like activity, making it worse for everyone. The boys are gossipy and talk/teach each other the tricks of the trade, like a dishonest taxi driver.
 

Post trip reflections.
Highlights
- S'sense is a big winner and a pleasant discovery for this trip. I always tend to go to a no hanky panky spa for a decent massage and then visit another place in search of the fun extras. I am delighted that from experience, both elements are present in S'sense. 
I always make it a point to avoid  recommending a specific guy as experiences and individual connection can vary. However, I would recommend Knott just for his massage skills alone.
 
- Hotmale is another surprise. I am pleased that I gave this place a second chance after a lack lustre experience from my first visit. 
- My meetups through apps have been consistently pleasant during this trip. While this mode takes heaps of time and effort to weed out time wasters and dodgy characters, it can be worth it. My meetups with non Thailand based MBs thru the app is a new Bangkok experience  for me.
- Tawan is always a highlight. The unpretentious ,relaxed and friendly atmosphere is something other boy bars are not able to duplicate.
- Kman Spa. Another notable discovery this trip. Worth the effort getting there. Looking forward to explore the other establishments in the Saphan Kwai area next time.
- LTs: maybe because of the lean season, securing LTs are not as difficult compared to previous experience pre pandemic. Most guys are also not in a hurry to go home the next morning. Maybe it's just my luck this time.

Lowlights 
- Banana bar just didn't tick any of my boxes this time. I'm not sure if its unusual but they only had four performers rotating the whole time I was there. People will take a peek by the door and will instantly walk off.
- Fresh boys is always a lowlight for me but I always end up visiting at least once every trip. The lack of subtlety on the part of waiters and Mamasans when asking for tips and drinks can be  irritating. I mean asking for tips/drinks within the first minute of conversation?
- AirBnB: given its legal status in Thailand, I always second guess and brace myself everytime I bring a boy back. The apartment I rented have posted notices and banners saying that the building is strictly for residential use and not for short rental like air bnb. The notices were written in a way that the renters can get into trouble if they don't report this to building management. But again, this is Thailand. While I didn't have any issues during my previous stay, I'll stick to the usual tried and tested Silom hotels next time.
- Jupiter: as advised,  I will try to ignore the ice cold standoffish behaviour of the guys next time. I might be in for a surprise.
- Dreamboys is a mixed bag for me. While their new place is a definite improvement, both my visits didn't result to an off. Not crossing this off my list and will give it a try next time.

Compared from my visit last year, things are really looking very positive. There seems to be no remnants of the pandemic and Silom / Surawong area is bustling with most establishments back to operating till late night / early morning. Overall, this 12 day experience have been pleasant with no major dramatics with any of my off. Fingers crossed it will be like this next time.
