It has beauty; it is completely different from any other of the Brasilian cities in many respects; it's the most African of any city, and it varies in terms of Rio de janeiro and Sao Paulo. I've only done the scenic and cultural route while in Bahia: I've never done the sauna scene but perhaps will do both and more if I manage to get there in July/August 2013; I plan to stay around 5 or 6 days.

You're absolutely correctly. I noticed this when I was there in the mid to late 90s.

This trip had to be postponed due to my leaving my passport back in California; I could not go beyond JFK in NYC. It's now on for May/June 2013. I truly hope NOTHING deters my going on this trip, for I am psyched for the cultural and sexual adventures which await me.

...agree with everything that's above. My friend and I went to one sauna where he had a "blast" and lots of attention given to him. I, on the other hand, could only sit and view all of the "eye candy" because I was recuperating from hot Anderson's {Rio} hard and deep throat fucking a few days prior and was 100% out of commission. The guys kept asking my amigo why I would not engage in their "play periods." He feigned innocence; I merely smiled and continuously say, "No obrigado!"

It would very definitely be to one's advantage to know some Spanish if he wishes to connect with some of Havana's finest. Also, many of the hotels, if not most, frown on natives being inside of their venue. When I was in Cuba sometime in the 90s, my party of eight stayed at the Hotel Libre, formerly The Havana Hilton. I was not engaging the services of men then, so I did NOT attempt to hook up, but I noticed many a native woman and a few men who were not allowed entrance. ...went to one of the supreme hotels, The National,for lunch. Excellent! Excellent! Excellent! In terms of men: I looked and marveled and that is all. Steve, a teacher from Philly and I went to a concert featuring Cuba's premier male singers. Great concert! But when we left, we waited for almost three hours for a bus. We decided to walk back and walked about a mile plus before seeing a taxi. We hailed it and went back to our hotel. Ice cream is supreme in Havana. The best place at the time was at the park which was a few blocks from our hotel. One night my party of eight {six women and two men} went there at around 10P.M. Apparently, they'd run out of ice cream, but when they {the waiters} spotted us Yanks, they immediately seated us; the natives went without. This bothered me tremendously but taught us something about the system. {At the time of our eight day tour, trips could be made on charter flights from Miami to Havana and back. I even brought back some cigars and let customs know it when I went through. No problemos at all.} Do a google check. YOu'll get some additional information. On www.tripadvisor.com, you can get some "Must sees" as well. I haven't checked on lodging either, but consult www.booking.com, www.agoda.com, etc... Lastly, go on a tour if you can't speak the language. {I do plan to return, I hope, sometime in 2014 or 2015 before it gets too touristy and American.}

...sorry about his lack of plans, his need to lie, etc. I have a good American friend who befriended a super-hot guy from Curitiba while he was in Barcelona two years ago. Currently his hottie is almost 30, and his future is a complete blur. When I heard my friend discuss his Brasilian amigo a few weeks ago, the only thing I could do was to listen. I was at a complete loss as to suggestions because what I heard did not seem real at all in terms of what my friend relayed about his man. I'm reading this on 1.11.13, and boy do I remember this event as if it happened just yesterday. I had one of my better times in Rio de janeiro in my going just for the "festa" although I did manage to leave the hotel to enjoy Copacabana, Central, Barra, and other parts of the city. I did do some cultural and other recreational activities as well.

Thanks for your update. I've never been to Porte Allegre but have read many exciting sagas about the place and its offerings here at this particular forum. Since this is the holiday season, many of the "boys" are perhaps lying low and spending "quality" time with their families in the area as well as outside. It is hoped that when you return again that times will be more auspicious for you. TomCal's and others' adventures have me very excited about visiting PA. When? I do not know at this writing.

During my last three visits to Brasil-- I decided NOT to wear a towel, flip flops and nothing else. I've worn a solid colored t-shirt and boxers. I've also worn my own flip flops as well because of their comfortability. Guys still came up to me, esp. when I had on a pair of navy blue boxers with a red emblazoned number of 23. Although many of the sauna boys are huge in endowment, we got the eyes of each other as I strolled and sat. So dress as you desire if at all, and see what happens.
