I just found that it's being shown now on HBO and I'm watching it. So far, the film is stylish and engaging. The sex-scenes are realistic, yet shown discreetly. Two surprises for me are the superb acting by Michael Douglas and the cameo by Rob Lowe as the plastic surgeon.

I saw Michael Douglas and Matt Damon being interviewed by the BBC. The stars were candid in their view of the caution of the major studios. In Europe, at least, it will be released as a film in cinemas (aka movie theaters)

Much as I love Melbourne, where I spend more than a month each year, I feel you have over-praised some aspects of the city. And I have to correct some misperceptions. "Hotel" is the term used in Australia to describe a bar. The title is anachronistic but Aussies recognise it and do not expect to stay overnight! There are quite a few gay bars. (And overnight hotels in Australia are not allowed to discriminate by law. I have never experienced any problem or attitude on checking in with my much-younger boyfriend - except once, when we were warmly greeted as a couple by the (straight) manager and promptly upgraded.) Sex-work is indeed legal and sex-workers are supposed to be registered. Many 'amateurs' do not register. There are quite a few brothels for heterosexuals, but I am only aware of 2 gay brothels in the city. Tipping is unusual in Melbourne whereas it is more common in Sydney, perhaps because it's more visited by US tourists and businessmen. Good service in high-end restaurants may merit a tip of 10%; the regulars in a good cafe may round up the check; taxi-drivers never expect a tip, and I have had taxi-drivers round down the fare to the next $. And finally, you omitted one of the most attractive, mixed gay and straight areas - St Kilda - which is close to the central business district and offers beaches with restaurants and cafes galore.
