After a ten days in Bangkok and Pattaya, I flew to Japan for another ten day visit, 6 of which were with family and friends.  That gave me some time to explore options.  I had read the forum topic on boy brothels which intrigued me.  I had long ago head of King College but had no experience of it or what are a multitude of others.  Without too much exploring I identified the following:

I am sure there are more, just depends on one’s location when in Japan.
My travel plans settled me into the Osaka/Kyoto region.  I was in Tokyo but only for a lengthy layover on the way from Bangkok to Osaka.  After looking at the various sites and I encourage forum members to explore as the majority of the sites will provide photos of their “representatives”, details on age, height, weight, penis size and what the guys will get up to or into.  Many have info charts to summarize if the subject of the photo will kiss, will fuck, be fucked, do threesomes, whether they smoke or drink, if they will do films, and if they are straight, gay, or bi.  As to how well a boy might kiss, fuck, etc there can be graphic charts.  A circle is a yes, a circle in a circle is a sign of experience.  A triangle indicates boy is on a learning curve, an x is no.  The sites vary as to how they indicate if a boy is a top or bottom.  “Uke” is a bottom.  “Maru” and “tachi” are slang for top.

Danshi Gauken prices and hour at 14,000 JPY for the office and 13,000 if the boy comes to your hotel.  I asked why the difference and was told they don’t have cleaning time/costs for someone going to a hotel. The hour pricing is about $95 USD.  Two hours is 19,000 JPY  ($129 USD). Overnight /12 hours is 32,000 JPY ($287).
One can contrast these prices with Bangkok remembering to add in the off fee and and drinks that may have attached themselves to completing the off.  The two hour fee is about 4000 THB. As a culture, Japanese do not expect tips.  Your up front cost is also the back end cost (in more ways than one).

So, I ignored that part of the comment somewhat deliberately. Nowadays, any kind of large-scale sex venue in China is pretty much dead, be it gay or straight. The problem is mostly that the cities with sex venues are too small to have somewhat of a gay tolerance to have a gay sex scene, but the cities with enough gay tolerance are too big for the scene to develop without being raided. Your best bet would be medium-sized cities like Chengdu, Chongqing, Suzhou, Changsha etc because they're big enough to have a gay scene but not big enough for the local government to really give a shit about policing everything. In larger cities such as Beijing or Shanghai I wouldn't bother outside the mainstream legit gay clubs that already exist, but those aren't necessarily MB places
That's not to say that the scene is non-existent, it definitely isn't! It's just that it's mostly temporary hidden backdoor venues, they're small, non-professional and almost always closes after a few months. That's why I said in that post that your best bet is a local gay friend (a local horny gay friend, preferably haha), they'll probably be more attuned to the ever-changing local scene. Lacking that, twitter is really not that bad of an alternative either, there's pages that updates about the local scenes in cities, SPA pages and such, even if the places suck you can use those to connect to other people and get a better insight into the local scene.
But do keep in mind that most of these places aren't really where MB would hang out, being a MB can send them to administrative detention, and there's no reason for them to risk themselves being arrested if they can simply advertise from the comfort and safety of their own home. Now, these are mostly medium to long term options, they aren't really helpful tips if you're just going on vacation and want something to just pop-in. For that I recommend Blued, it's the go-to gay app in China, but be aware that there's a chinese version that isn't the same as the international one!
And I've never heard of stories such as yours! I think you might've just been insanely unlucky, I never had such a bad experience neither know someone who does. They know that what they're doing is illegal and can get them arrested, it sounds stupid to me for them to cause a ruckus like this. If you stick to the more "professional" ones I think you'll be fine, they don't wanna risk being reported and losing their livelihood for a few bucks. But they don't come cheap! As I have said in some other posts under this category HK has actually a good number of gay saunas but the biggest and the most gay-friendly of them remains Hutong. They don't do any filtering anymore at the entrance like around 5-10 years ago, so everyone is accepted. I've seen white daddies every time I go, though not sure about their success rate. (I'm in my mid 30s and slim). The facilities are still great. The best days to go are Monday (young people get a big discount), Friday and Saturday. It also get very busy during the two weeks in May and October where the mainland has holidays. I witnessed it myself this year. There are beautiful blue-lit pools with plants surrounding them, fountains pouring in from all sides. A Himalayan pink salt room made with illuminated pink salt bricks with a window to one side featuring pottery and plants through the pane. The dry sauna has pineapple slices hanging over the hot rocks, giving it a delicious, sweet air. The steam room similarly has a mixture of aromatic plants and herbs over the steamer which are frequently attended to by guests and staff. The pools are made with luxurious stone. The pathways are made with Japanese stepping stones surrounded with pebbles. Most of the time I felt like I was in a 5-star spa in Beverly Hills. Sometimes I felt like I was in a museum. Nothing like I’ve experienced in a gay sauna before. 
NaDam is split into two parts. The cruising sauna on one side and massage boys on the other. It’s a brilliant business plan. You walk around the cruising area and get horny to the point of exploding, then go to the massage boys for some smoking hot fun. 
First, my report on the cruising side. I was there on a Friday night. I arrived around 5:30 p.m. In addition to the pools and showers and dry sauna and steam room on the main level, there is a cruising area on the 2nd floor with “dark room alleys” and Japanese styled fuck rooms with doors that close and lock. There were about 20 guys moving about. No action. All were locals except for one other tourist from Europe. The locals all looked very similar. 20-40 years old, most of them. Smooth. Twinkish builds. In some rooms guys were sucking each other with people crushing each other in the hallway to peek in. In others, the doors were locked…so I have no idea what they could have been doing. But the action represented maybe only 15% of the cruising customers. I tried to approach a few guys in towels…but nothing came of it. I didn’t feel too bad because they weren’t doing anything with anyone else either. After 45 minutes of this, I went back to the massage boys. 
This time the hot massage boys convinced me to get a full body scrub. The “body scrub expert” was older, in his 30s. My impression was he’d been a massage boy years before. Georgetown, Penang Island was a wonderful place to visit and I could have easily spent several days more exploring the island, eating wonderful food and hooking up with cute local talent.
 
I stayed four nights. First night I arrived late. The very long and dull bus ride was longer than expected due to some kind of accident related traffic jam on the way. So the first night was uneventful. The next couple of days and nights were delightfully busy. I did a food tour with a guide who was also very knowledgeable about local history, culture and economy, hiked through mangrove forest in the small national park on the northwestern part of the island, visited Chinese gangster’s/merchant’s mansions, enjoyed British colonial buildings, had lots of tasty food and no less than five hook-ups.

Having read a lot of interesting trip reports and learned a lot from these as well as from interesting questions and answers, I thought I might try my hand at a (not very detailed ‘cause its a year ago almost) trip report from Malaysia.
 
I was there in November of 2023, entered the Country by train from Singapore, stayed one night in Johor Bahru, two nights in KL and four nights in Georgetown. From there I traveled overland to Chumphon, Thailand, and got on a boat to Koh Tao, but that’s a different story…
 
Johor Baru was an interesting, but unnecessary stop. I booked a night there because I wasn't sure how regular I could expect the border trains from Singapore to be or how smooth the border crossing would be. Very regular, very smooth turned out to be the case, so that left me a good half day, an evening, and a night to enjoy Johor Bahru before catching a train to KL the next day.
 
JB is not exactly a picturesque city and not very walkable, but you are probably not here for the family friendly version of my trip with sightseeing and good food, so I will leave those details for Instagram and go on to the topics of interest to this community; boys and men.
 
Malaysia has three very distinct population groups, Malay, Chinese and Indian, so both food- and hook-up wise there are a lot of flavors to sample. I hope my sample of Malaysia is of interest to the forums and plan to make a report on KL and Georgetown in the near future.

This is a continuation of my “Return” topic in the Gay Thailand forum.
After a ten days in Bangkok and Pattaya, I flew to Japan for another ten day visit, 6 of which were with family and friends.  That gave me some time to explore options.  I had read the forum topic on boy brothels which intrigued me.  I had long ago head of King College but had no experience of it or what are a multitude of others.  Without too much exploring I identified the following:

I am sure there are more, just depends on one’s location when in Japan.
My travel plans settled me into the Osaka/Kyoto region.  I was in Tokyo but only for a lengthy layover on the way from Bangkok to Osaka.  After looking at the various sites and I encourage forum members to explore as the majority of the sites provide photos of their “representatives”, details on age, height, weight, penis size and what the guys will get up to or into.  Many have info charts to summarize if the subject of the photo will kiss, will fuck, be fucked, do threesomes, whether they smoke or drink, if they will do films, and if they are straight, gay, or bi.  As to how well a boy might kiss, fuck, etc there are  graphic charts.  A circle is a yes, a circle in a circle is a sign of experience.  A triangle indicates boy is on a learning curve, an x is no.  The sites vary as to how they indicate if a boy is a top or bottom.  “Uke” is a bottom.  “Maru” and “tachi” are slang for top.

Then there is pricing - it is time based and can range from a hour to overnight. The better sites (my rating) are vey clear about how pricing works, if credit cards(and which ones) are accepted with or without an additional handling charge (as much as 7% at some places).  
You can book to meet the boy at the agency or at your hotel. Danshi Gauken prices are similar to most give or take a 1,000 JPY.  An hour at 14,000 JPY for the office and 13,000 if the boy comes to your hotel.  I asked why the difference and was told they don’t have cleaning time/costs for someone going to a hotel. The hour pricing is about $95 USD.  Two hours is 19,000 JPY  ($129 USD). Overnight /12 hours is 32,000 JPY ($287).
One can contrast these prices with Bangkok remembering to add in the off fee and and drinks that may have attached themselves to completing the off.  The two hour fee is about 4000 THB. As a culture, Japanese do not expect tips.  Your up front cost is also the back end cost (in more ways than one).
 
Whew…got the details out.  
 I used both two hour and three hour bookings as I was testing and exploring.  First lesson learned was make sure the agency serves the city your are in.  I got caught by the photo and talents of a boy at the frangrance agency.  Only to receive a polite explanation that Frangrance didn’t serve Osaka.  
Second lesson book ahead.  Most of the sites similar to some Bangkok massage shops have multiple dozens of photos of boys.  Best to check the photos on the “schedule” part of the website to see who is actually available and at what times.  These sites will also show the availability for the next several days/nights.  Some boys require that they be booked the day before the planned meeting.  One of  my offs who had this requirement told me it helped him with his own schedule as he was a student and wasn’t into hanging around the agency.
The  boys I “encountered” were always on time or early.  One was arriving at 9:40pm which I thought curious until I realized they had calculated the time the subway would get the boy to my location.  He arrived at 9:41.
I engaged one boy from kids-japan.  This did not go well due to an internal hesitation on my part.  The staff at kids-japan are YOUNG, Japanese tend to look young, I thought my choice was a middle schooler and instead of any play took him to lunch.  To each his own - this wasn’t mine.
Chanceosaka.jp supplied a more mature companion, who was better looking than his photos (this was true in all cases), and more than will willing to  indulge me.  Skills were superb, no need to play games about kissing or any activities.  No Vietnamese cry of “I’m Man”.  
NOTE: Here’s the scenario as noted in four instances: boy arrives on time or early.  Agency has contacted me to confirm boy is coming and ask if a security card is needed for the elevator (this is also a check to see if I was actually in the hotel and in the room I told them).  The boy comes in and it’s business.  Payment is up front and in cash.  Credit cards need to be used at the office.  Boy may also be required to call his office to confirm he is with his client.  
Then it’s shower time.  Japanese are very clean and want clients to also be clean.  Shower together.  It was over 95C every day I was in Japan so shower was also a cooling as well as cleansing.  Erotic activities are encouraged, allowed, reciprocated, enhanced while in the shower and they lead to whatever the client indicated he wants.  It was in the shower part that I realized kids-japan was too middle school for me.

My Bangkok experiences lean me toward preferring a crowded group to select from. My Osaka experiences make me rethink.   I normally would be wary of choosing from a photo, but the Japanese as a culture are very scrupulous and quality conscious and in the case of Chance and Danshi Gauken the actual was way better than the photos.  It’s a different method but the end product was somewhat better than Bangkok as there was no need for in room negotiation and the boys I was with consistently wanted to know that I wanted and how to please me.

Stayed in Makati in Manila, near the red light district. I would avoid this area. Most hotels have security/doormen. If you invite anyone over, they will often take the ID of your guest and register them in a log book. When the guest leaves, you will be checked on and made sure you’re okay before the guest is allowed to leave. You can get past this by walking your guest in and out, but if you are nervous of people knowing your business, keep in mind that it’s impossible to be discreet.
I used Grindr only while here. It’s very active. In Makati, there were tons of profiles less than 500m away.

I did not see a lot of foreigners in Manila. Many said they go to the islands.
In Boracay though, it was the exact same. Many say the options are better here. This was not the case.
While some of the locals are quite hot, dark skinned, lean and somewhat muscular, a little rough around the edges, these are the straight boat men. On the apps, it’s the same. Chubby, or older, or very young, and clingy. 
The beaches are beautiful and you don’t get harassed as much as other beach destinations, but this country is not one I’d go to for sex.

So actually Recife was a blast. There is an interesting gay quarter 5 mins drive from Boa Vista with a proper night club and a few funky gay bars - I stayed outside on the street with a caipirinha and just observed the crowd. Really good.
Sao Luis. I will mention Sao Luis as I don't think there were any reviews, and I've been possibly three times there, though not since 2021 or 2022, I think. They have a very decent GP sauna called Go.61, or it's called Sauna Go on some of their socials. It's sort of California style, very similar to what Fortaleza has, but with an added bonus of a swimming pool. There are similarly cheap suites and drinks, as well as plenty of free cabins on the upper floor. When I visited, I met really cool guys - again 100 was the usual rate. The best days are Thursday and Sunday. Sometimes they have performances, or bingo - at other times it's usual karaoke or just simple fucking, no complaints. 
Sao Luis is a really good city. On Friday nights, the whole historic center (where the sauna is, btw) turns into one big street party. They also have a week of June fiestas which is pretty much a carnival in June. An hour long public boat ride away with a severely drunk boat captain brings you to the island of Alcantara which is a ruined colonial city lost in time and space - a great day out.
That all pretty much sums up why I liked to come back to Nordeste all recent years - and sometimes (but not always) it's an even more satisfying experience that the meat conveyor belt of 117/202/Lagoa in Rio and SP. Long story short, there is life on other planets in Brazil.
 

Bali is the common place for people to visit, but I've had as many if not more luck in Jakarta and Surabaya, going to add  Bandung in my next trip. Less expensive in everything as a country except maybe alcohol.

Yes, I just meant they were staying in the same hotel as me (Holiday Inn.)  Guests can only access the floor on which they are staying, but all guests can access the Roof Deck (RD) from two of the elevators and so I just arranged to meet them on the roof deck and then take them back to my room.

Sorry, that's just my terminology... I have sent messages and received a lot of replies but some hours or even a day later and sometimes piled up messages that seem to come through all at once.  I haven't used X to hookup with anyone, although I could have because there are many "masahe", "MT" or "massage therapists" on X displaying their services and you can contact them through X messaging.  On Grindr you will also find guys using those same terms and also "not for free" or "not for everyone" or "for hire" or "4hire" or something similar which generally means you pay. I stayed in a hotel right in the Ayala Center: Holiday Inn & Suites Makati. It was pretty nice.

Is where the gay action used to be, I've been told Makati is better area to stay...I'm going in Feb and is where I'll stay, I stayed is Pasay last time and although it's nice and near the Mall of Asia, wasn't much action on the apps there. A friend stayed in Makati and he said it was non-stop 🤨
