This crisis evolution is unpredictable. In most countries, Brazil included, there is first. a municipal, then a state, and finally a federal authority that may make that kind of decisions.

I do not think there is risk right now, but if the risk rises it is possible that the government closed down all saunas and public baths. I will be there in April and am concerned about perhaps not having saunas. Although my visit is right before the beginning of the local flu season, the situation is now unpredictable. I am glad I do not need the saunas, but I would horribly miss them.

That is why I placed "only" in between quotations marks. Compare it to previous epidemics, like SARS.

@TotallyOz, I do not know how healthy you are. If you are healthy as I am, I would not be over concerned about getting infected. Mortality rate is "only" 2%. But I would be crazily concerned about getting locked in a quarantine area, or locked out of your home base for who knows how long.

After two visits to Rio last year, I feel I should update this post. You can get a programa in a sauna from 80Rials. They will probably ask you for 200 if they think you are a non knowledgeable visitor. I have been paying 100, that I make 150 when I am very happy and want to meet the boy in my place later on. In 117 I was asked for 200 once by an exceptionally hot guy, but he went down to 150. About bringing guys to your place, the standard price is 200 per hour, but they actually do not watch the clock and in my experience you end with a multiple hours meeting for the same price.

That is a lovely walk! The couple of times I did it, I would walk down the waterfront avenue and randomly turn and walk into Flamengo neighborhood. Indeed, you get a vibe more authentic and local than Copacabana and Ipanema.
