I am living in Cairo since 2 years. And its very hard to bring guests- even in my own apartment —because as a foreigner you're given extra protection/monitoring (?)—and I don't want the security guards to become suspicious, especially since in my case they're actual police officers. That's why I even rent an apartment in Giza in a less desirable area, which is very cheap and, most importantly, has no security guards. Recently, however, the main gate is often locked and there's a doorman. So it's not so easy anymore. When renting an Airbnb, you should make sure you can check in yourself, either with a key box or a code. If it says "with staff around the clock," it means that there's ALWAYS someone sitting downstairs watching. When renting an apartment, it's also important to make sure it's not in a compound. This is often the case in 6th of October or New Cairo. I've had good experiences in New Cairo: there are many apartment buildings there without doormen or security. However, these apartments are quite expensive... I think there are definitely a significant number of guys on Grindr in Cairo. But I'm certainly willing to pay for good-looking and muscular guys. Some guys are available for visits—but very rarely, and often in very run-down apartments. I highly recommend "Cap D'Or" downtown. It's a fairly large bar with good music and a very mixed crowd—but almost exclusively gay men and their allies. Recently, you have to reserve a table via WhatsApp (00201287130640). It's sometimes very crowded on Thursdays, so the manager felt he had to implement this measure—we'll see how long he can keep it up. At the moment, he has to close at 11:00 PM anyway due to the energy crisis, so reservations aren't necessary. Even though it's almost exclusively gay men there, it's obviously not a true gay bar. But you can definitely meet someone there! It's a 10-15 minute Uber ride from Zamalek. In Zamalek, I went to the H2O Gym—in an old, somewhat run-down villa, but it's a gym just for men... and there's a hot tub where you sometimes sit with very hot guys, and as a foreigner, you're usually approached. I no longer live there and now go to the "Transformers - Nile View" gym. Apparently, things get pretty wild in the sauna area at night/early morning. I've never tried it and don't intend to.

Since so many of you are posting about your Asia destination here, I'd like to take this opportunity to ask for your advice. I'm planning my FIRST trip to (East) Asia. I've always gone to South America before because I simply love the Brazilian and Colombian muscle tops, and the saunas in Brazil and Colombia are so incredibly easygoing... I'm a bottom and I'm just really into masculine tops. But lately, I've realized that I also find muscular Asians quite attractive. On RentMen, I find many muscular Asians that I find appealing. may I ask you for your advice: Which Asian country would you recommend for me as a first stop – considering tourist infrastructure, the diversity of the landscape and places, and of course, also with regard to (paid) sex? I'm at an age where I'm willing to pay for good-looking guys. But I don't need a companion or anything like that.

That's counterfactual historical analysis, which in my opinion is pointless. And yes: Of course, the Europeans, and incidentally also the Americans from 1898 onwards, committed injustices in the colonized countries and are responsible for many problems (through border demarcations that didn't take local conditions into account, monocultures, etc.), but not everything these countries decide today is a direct consequence of that.
-
Yes, it was forbidden by the British, but it was quite common practice before. However, after decolonization, African countries made their own laws and revived their own traditions: female genital mutilation, for example. And only in recent years have laws against homosexuals been tightened, and the death penalty partially reintroduced... this is an independent decision made by these countries and NOT a consequence of colonialism.
-
It is a colonial perspective to believe that African countries are incapable of making conscious decisions. African countries have recently tightened their measures against homosexuals.

it was more than 100 years ago! It is a colonial perspective to believe that African countries are incapable of making conscious decisions. African countries have recently tightened their measures against homosexuals.

yes, also not in Hungary and Russia. But in Hungary and Russia its a lot of pressure on the LGBTQ+ community...and also in the "bible-belt" in US, i think...
-
ok. my argumentation was more like "conservative" countries with a traditional strong religion tradition vs. more liberal countries with a less strong religion tradition. so we see in Poland and Hungary and also in evangelistic states in US homophobia not only in islamic states. But at the end: its not "the europeans" they are responsible for homophobia in africa.
-
Thats really stupid - sorry to say that! Homosexuality is not illegal in US, in Canada, in Brasil, in Argentina, in Chile,... were all european colonies. And in some countries in africa they start RIGHT now to b prohibit and persecute homosexuality. g.e. it Egypt was a more or less liberal country mentioned Homosexuality... but after the short reign of muslim brothes it was over...and it does not recover because the president now does not want to jeopardize the current peace and quiet. The only liberal african countries in that case are christian countries like South Africa. Name any "christian" country which kill gays. I think ALL country they prohibit homosexuality are muslim countries and not only in africa. And the african leader and societies themself justify there policies against homosexuality with their tradition. I am living as a european in an african country and the people here are LAUGH at left-wing woke theories that blame everything on the colonial era, because the turn to Islam and the fight against homosexuality are in reality a fight against Western woke influence. Just as we are currently seeing in the USA, Russia, and Hungary: the conservative-religious turnaround is a reaction to Western woke influence and NOT a consequence of colonial policies.
