They have a great movie theater as well and on weekends play free movies outside on a large screen and that grassy area and steps are packed with people…

Colombian sociologist, national treasure and trans-woman and activist, Brigitte Batiste has some interesting takes on how cultures in Colombia and indigenous Amazonian cultures have evolved and influenced countries like Brazil and Colombia — not specifically related to sex, but lots of correlations can be made... much of her writing is in Spanish, but a good dive. Great mini exhibit of hers at el mamm in medellin.

I went with a local and that was the rate they paid at bodytech also. The rates are published in website it’s a national chain. Other gyms like smartfit are less.

Yes, gyms are one of the things that are expensive for locals, it’s why you see so many locals working out at the free outdoor gyms.  Bodytech is equivalent of an equinox in US that comes with a $200/mo price tag in most US cities…
there are lots of whole in the wall gyms I see in every neighborhood. Those are prob much less expensive.

    Gyms:
For those of you who are visiting regularly or long term I recommend getting a gym membership at BodyTech. It’s about $50 a USD, minimum two months, but day passes are super expensive.
ultra gym at the charlee is awesome too. About $60 USD a month no minimum.  There’s only one location, right in center of Parque Lleras and while it’s a better gym, I chose bodytech for convenience. English speaking trainers here, about $15-20 a session.
There’s also a CrossFit, CrossFit deluxe in poblado that is amazing.  Great trainers, great people.
skip smartfit, they are all tiny and it’s super crowded.
if In laureles and u don’t wanna do BodyTech, there is an old school body builder  gym that is largely outside,  but I love it. It’s called Magnum.
    Trainers:
I have a great trainer. He’s independent, but if you pay for his gym membership (or use one of the free outdoor gyms) he will train you for roughly $8-12 a session and Uber ($3-4 US each way).  DM and I’ll get you his info.  He’s gay but not an escort. And I don’t think he’d like being propositioned. But who knows?

@tassojunior has it been a minute since you’ve visited Medallo? They finished construction on a couple tunnels thru the mountains in the last few years… airport is 25 mins outside of Poblado now. Much easier trip. Also, haven’t found it difficult to meet guys — although I heard that was the case from a few years back…. Bars are full, and folks are friendly. Grindr and Scruff are very popular as well… Spanish/English is a larger prob as most (not all) guys are Spanish only… def recommend Medellin.

It rains almost every day in Medellin, but they are short showers, an hour max...  rest of day is gorgeous.  Plenty of opportunity to walk and explore. Also Ubers are plentiful and very inexpensive. Grab an umbrella, you’re going to be a-ok.  Enjoy!

Yes, but also has a more loose meaning in all of South America. I do not know how to translate it, something like "lure", when you are very engaged and passionate. Like an uninhibited additional energy in even the most basic interactions, like just kissing. I can't explain.

Take 100s in USD, it’s much easier to exchange them at the blue exchange. Def use cash as the blue rate is almost 2 to 1 better than if you use your credit card or get $ out of atm

Most countries it doesn’t matter, with the exception of Argentina. I was turned away at the blue exchange centers for not having $100s…

El poblado is very popular with locals. Medellin, until very recently, wasn’t a tourist destination — so there aren’t areas that are just “tourist” spots, like Times Square.
Just because tourists go to Poblado, doesn’t mean it’s not authentic. Tourists go to Greenwich Village and Central Park — but it’s full of actual New Yorkers who live in and around those neighborhoods. You’d be missing out if you skipped Poblado.  You should stay in Poblado and use it as your launchpad to go other places… I would stay outside a 10-15 min walk radius of Parque Lleras, although you definitely want to check it out on the weekend… it’s where thousands of Colombians descend to chill on the street, hang out in the park or drink and eat.

Poblado is very large. The antisex tourism campaign is primarily around Parque Lleras which is the party hub.  If you stay in Poblado but 15-20 min walk away from Lleras you shouldn’t have problems bringing guys back unless you are staying at a very very nice place.
