Hello Artemis I do feel a bit hesitant about answering your question as my taste in guys might be different from yours and the guys I prefer are certainly not everybody's cup of tea, but I recall that you are a Tawan fan too. My man is probably the oldest out of all the guys at Tawan and Atlas. He's quite short, but with a strong body, good shape (legs and chest) and muscular biceps, which he likes to flex. On Friday night I headed off to Atlas bar to see what all the hype was about. When I arrived, who should I see sitting outside but a guy I offed a few times last year from the Tawan Bar. I found out later that he had recently transferred to Atlas. He can be a bit possessive, and as he hadn't noticed me, I thought I would make a visit to Tawan instead to see what talent they had there and catch up with him on Saturday. The first thing I noticed on arrival at Tawan was that they just ushered me in without paying the regulatory 500 baht at the door. After I had been seated the drinks menu came out. As I looked at the stage, alarm bells started ringing. Should I exit and tell them that I left my wallet at the hotel? Many of the guys looked as if they had never lifted weights, let alone done any cardio. Against my better judgement, I decided to stay. Things could only get better....right? There were quite a few customers in the room, mainly Chinese I imagine. As for the show, I think I counted half a dozen drag queen routines. There was the obligatory big cock parade with the usual pushing for tips. Two large bodybuilders in their naked glory made the show more worthwhile. One was in very good shape, the other being definitely off-season. After the show the guys all stood on the stage, as is usual. I was hoping to get the attention of the bodybuilders, but was approached by 2 other guys instead and in the end I decided to leave empty handed. So off I ventured to the Atlas on Saturday evening. I have been a long time fan of Tawan but IMHO Atlas came out the winner of the two. The decor is bright and modern, the staff were well presented and attired, without being too pushy. The stable of boys had more variety too, including some twinks who had firm abs. Because of the rain I don't know if all the regular boys turned up. There were some bodybuilders there, but there also seemed to be boys who would fit all types of customer preference. And, needless to say, I ended up with my regular guy. Now this is an entirely subjective review. Just my 2 cents worth.

I'm a fan of Quarter Saladaeng and always stay there when I arrive in Bangkok, mainly to chill out, unwind from jet lag and adjust to the time zone (Thailand being 5 hours behind). But then it's time to move closer to the action. Saladaeng is certainly within walking distance, but I prefer to just walk around the corner when I am offing a guy. If the rates are favourable, I go for Quarter Silom, otherwise Tarntawan. By the way no matter where I am staying I usually go to Quarter Saladaeng for their buffet breakfast, which is 199 baht. The dining room staff always make me feel welcome. Agate and Zing Resort and Spa are just a short walk to the beach. I haven't stayed at hotels in the Boyztown area, as am worried about noise levels there.

Last year I stayed at BBHOUSE, next to Welcome World. It's a budget hotel and if you pay at reception it doesn't seem to be any dearer than through Agoda. The cheaper rooms are basic, but they are quite large. But what I love about this hotel is that you can sit at the entrance, where you get a sea view and can watch all the people walking past. It's easy to walk over the road to the beach as the traffic is much lighter here. A short walk takes you to the baht bus route and also to Jomtien Plaza. I stayed at the Zing Resort and Spa initially, but the bed was too hard for my liking, so I ended up staying at BBHOUSE.

Definitely the Babylon sauna. I stayed at a nearby guesthouse called the Aquarius and would visit Babylon most nights. No need to go the bars apart from occasional visits. Then I discovered Tawan Bar. Despite its shortcomings, I made many visits to it last year and didn't go to any other bars. I also remember a bar called Screwboy back in the day. What is etched in my memory is a young male repeatedly banging his erect dick against a pole. I could only help but think that he would have serious problems in later years.

Thanks for that. I had noticed that many of the Ambiance reviews warned that it was in the heart of the gay area, but nobody seemed unduly alarmed. I have just looked at the reviews for Venue and they seem to be very positive on the whole Maybe I will try that instead of Zing Resort and Spa next time. I had assumed that Boyztown had more to offer than Jomtien as far as gogo bars were concerned

Floridarob How was your stay at the Ambiance? Being so close to Boyztown, I imagine it must be very noisy at night, and I am a light sleeper.

Vinapu. Are Friday and Saturday nights usually the busiest times? I don't like being conspicuous in a bar when there aren't many clients, although I guess there are advantages, such as getting a better chance of offing someone who tickles your fancy

Monsoon. I come from a country where tipping is not required. However, when I am in Thailand I always tip the porters when they carry my luggage and I leave a tip in the room for the cleaning staff when checking out. I also will often leave a tip for the waiting staff when paying for a meal at a restaurant These people don't get paid well. I can afford 20 baht here and 50 baht there, and I do believe that the recipients are grateful.

I had absolutely no problems using it on my phone.

I stayed at the Tarntawan for a few nights last year. The policy was that the guest had to show ID, but it was just a formality and there wasn't a problem. At Quarter Silom you could just go straight up to your room. I will consider Ibis Styles. I seem to recall that they have a lunch buffet. I am following this thread, as well as several others, but have not been getting notifications for a few weeks. I'm not sure why.

Please may I ask which Surawong hotel you booked and would you be likely to recommend it?

I think that the recommendation from colmx to use the unison enema is worth considering too.

My nephew married a Thai lady who only drinks bottled water. I won't drink water from the tap, unless it has been boiled, but even to make a hot drink I prefer to use bottled water. I don't brush my teeth with tap water either, as I don't want to risk being confined to barracks because of potential digestive issues.

Thank you for your report, written so eloquently. Your reference to Soi Suan Phlu brought back many memories. There used to be an exclusively gay guesthouse called the Aquarius, which was off Soi Suan Phlu. I stayed there twice. It was walking distance to Silom, but also an easy stroll to the much loved and sadly missed Babylon Sauna. I wonder if anyone from the forum ever stayed at the Aquarius. I can't wait to read your report about the Atlas Bar.

Thank you for your update, menaughty. I gather from your report that The One is still open. I assumed that it might have closed altogether, now that Atlas has provided competition. And with the glowing reports about Barcelona and Brazil, I feel tempted to consider different pastures the next time I plan a holiday, but I'll probably end up retuning to Thailand mid year.

Well, it certainly sounds exciting, but, by the same token, it would be sad to see the demise of Tawan, which I understand has been the longest running gay gogo bar in Silom. It was certainly the first bat I ever visited in Bangkok. I guess many of The One boys will end up at Atlas.
