Hi. I’ve been in Bogota for 4 days with 2 more days here before heading to Medellin.
a few thoughts as it’s my first time here:
Museums: Museos del Banco de la República is a charming and beautiful little museum. It wasn’t too crowded. I appreciate Botero, he’s never been at the tops of who I love, but the pieces and sculpture they had were top notch and the layout and curation was excellent. Better than expected. Also, it was pretty cruisy. I chatted in my shitty Spanish with two guys visiting from Cartagena, a couple, they invited me over but I had lunch reservation. We traded numbers, but didn’t meet up. They left today. Que lastima b/c they were sexy. A couple other guys made some eyes also. Museo del Oro was another surprise. I’m much more of an art museum fan than history or artifacts. But it was well laid out. Super informational and interesting and the lighting was so good.
Food: I did the fancy stuff. Leo and El Chato which are yeh two highest rated Colombian restaunts at #54 and #72 on the 100 best restaurants of the world list. They were fine. I’ll chalk it up to I’m not the biggest fan of Colombian food in general 😳.  Harry Sasson was a standout tho. It’s an OG of the dining scene I’m told and it’s worth going for the beautiful room and the tortilla española and heart of palm salad alone. It’s very old Colombia… waiters in jackets, white tablecloths, excellent service, beautiful traditional room. But it wasn’t fussy. The other standout was La Puerta Falsa Restaurant. It’s tiny, 200+ years old and worth the hype. Yes it’s in all the guidebooks and yes you have to wait in line but the anjiaco and hot chocolate were soooooo good. I wanted a tamal too so I ordered one but it was way too much food. I couldn’t finish it and felt really guilty like a wasteful gringo. Just know that portions are huge if you go.
Shopping: there has been one store that blew me away, it’s called St Dom. It only carries high end Colombian designers and they are both cutting edge and really high quality. I was super impressed. My experience with Colombian design is the quality is a little missing and the design is pretty basic. St Dom changed my mind. It’s in a beautiful space. The staff are helpful, flirty and charming. One guy who was managing particularly so. I said I’d go back and he gave his number. He had a great personality that won me over so that’ll happen (maybe tonight!)
Guys: I’m not an apps guy. I’m now in my 40s and idea of staying out for Teatron isn’t my thing anymore. But I have followed you all and the tips. Met a guy at the gym who was really hot. And got a 4 hands from two twinks from here. I wanted to share a trip report and some tips / thoughts that you may find helpful.
I stayed in SP for one night close to GRU airport after a long haul flight, went to Lagoa of course. And the next day I headed to Rio for a couple of days.
My international flights were out of GRU. But I did the SP / Rio flights from GRU to SDU. SDU is closer to Copacabana / Ipanema I think. I flew Azul, it was fine. Comfortable and on time.
Saunas - 117 / 202 / Lagoa
Lagoa is not what it used to be. Maybe it was timing but definitely did not see the same calibre of guys as previous trips. No familiar faces at all except staff.
I realized later that every time I got a room at Lagoa, I was being charged the fully hourly room rate. Even though the GP’s usually finish within 20 - 30 minutes max. In Rio, I decided to get a room for a couple of hours on my last night. This also saved me having to go to reception every time I needed a room. I figured it may end up cheaper and more logistically friendly - find your guy and go straight to the room - not sure if that was true or not…. I still ended up paying a lot at the end of the night even though I only had 1 drink. It only occurred to me later that the cost was likely too high, and I probably should have queried it. Notwithstanding that I was probably overcharged, I am not sure if this approach to room hiring makes sense or not but just thought I would share.
117 is a more upscale version of 202 in my opinion. Both in terms of layout, rooms, cleanliness and guys. It was decent on Friday, quiet on Sunday. By 11pm it was shutting down. It is a bit further out though. I stayed close to a metro station but just ended up using uber to everywhere.
202 was dead quiet both days I went. Thursday evening around 8pm - 2 guys there only. Saturday around 5pm - only 1 guy.
Don’t fall for the trap of getting 2 boys … I don’t think it is worth it
Even though I discussed rates and services upfront, most GPs tried to upsell or didn’t do what was agreed. In particular, kissing…. They would agree but during the session they would go through with it or they wouldn’t engage fully when kissing.
I don’t ask for leite - 1 guy was persistent whilst we were in the act about offering me his leite. It was a turn off and I eventually ended the session prematurely.
Some guys will give their leite - even if you didn’t ask for it. And then ask for a higher price afterwards. I just did not have the energy to argue and just paid it, but it did leave me disappointed and annoyed.
Rates were all over the place but generally in 200 to 300 reais region without leite.
Rio G sauna is not GP sauna. Mainly locals and some tourists. Good for after beach R&R. No hot tubs though. Worth a visit at least once I think. Closes at 10pm though.
Beach
The barracas (tents) on the beach provide pretty much everything you need. Chair + umbrella = 30 reais. A “waiter” from the baracca will come to you and offer you drinks and you can run a tab. It’s pretty cheap. They also water, soda etc.
There are a lot of vendors, but they are usually not persistent. They are trying to make a living. If you say no thank you, they will usually go away. But you can get anything on the beach. Swimsuits, sunscreen, sunglasses, hats, gum, empanadas, hot dogs etc…. There was even a guy with a cake stand with full sized cakes and coffee.
Baracca Ana #55 was really good. Excellent service and very friendly staff. Baraca Denise # 63 close to Poste 9 is in the gay beach area. This baracca was not as good in my opinion. You can actually search for the baracas by number of name on Apple Map.
Pack light, leave money at your hotel, don’t tempt anyone to steal. Place your phone and credit card in a water tight case so you can go into the water or for a stroll if you like. If you don’t have a water proof phone case, a vendor will come by selling it.
Food
Most places I went to, protein was overcooked. Lots of olive oil and loads of cheese. So not the best of options for those of us that watch what we eat …
I would highly recommend Marcus Degustaria restaurant. It’s an experience, higher end of the price scale but cheap by North American standards. Tip - you don’t have to accept everything they bring out to you. You will get stuffed very quickly. Choose what you like, feel free to decline, they will bring it out again later.
Etta Bar - also really good. Best cocktails I had was here. Tip for any bar including saunas - if you don’t like drinks super sweet or syrupy - just say “sem acucar”. Most times they will oblige.
Coffee- regular coffee is just an espresso or cafe americano. Cappuccino is often the premade instant stuff , or they add in sugar already.
Zona Sul is like a Trader Joes. You will find everything you could need here. Even decent sushi.
Where to stay
I would suggest Copacabana between Poste 1 to 5. You are close to 202, Black Cat Bar and closer to 117 than if you stayed in Ipanema
Lots of reasonably priced Air Bnb. Just ask about guests upfront. Mine was fine with guests but I didn’t have any.
You are a bit further away from the gay beach but convenience of being closer to the saunas. The other thing I liked is that there are rows of restaurants and bars along the beach on Copacabana area, often open till late. Very few options directly on the beach in Ipanema and not open till late
I felt safe walking alone at night along Copacabana. There is a lot of cops present.
Gloria / Lapa area is close to 117. Also has a vibrant night life, restaurants etc.
Pink Flamingo is the main gay night club. The other club is The Home which is more electronic dance - but I didn’t make it out here. There are also Local gay sambey events - worth looking into it.
There are women working in the saunas, bars, clubs. Women security guards that pat you down. I found this a bit unnerving or maybe it was just in my head. A woman waiting at the top of the stairs at 117, staring me down every time I took a guy up. lol… Poppers are not allowed in Pink Flamingo, leave at your hotel / air bnb. There seem to be people selling on Grindr now too. Don’t know if it’s reliable.
Grindr is a total waste of time in my opinion in this part of the world. Sniffies is hardly used.

Just a clarification, as I could be counted as one of those posters. It is not that I am advising against hiring online. I am sure you can find amazing providers in garotocom and other outlets. I went to Hans at 6 am on a Sunday and the place was packed from people partying from Saturday night. I landed early AM and my AirBnB was not available until 1 PM. There was tons of activity going on and there were tons of guys sleeping. There were a lot of guys in their 20s and 30s. I am not exactly in their demographic, but I was way more popular that I expected to be. Quite a few young, fit, muscular guys wanted to bottom for me.
There was a couple of guys constantly cleaning, but it was hard for them to keep up honestly. It has been forever since I have been to a gay bath house. I realized after being there for a while how much I dislike the smell of poppers and it gives me a headache. The whole place smelled like poppers.
The guys at the front desk were friendly and I did not feel at all unwelcome there.

I´ve only been to Sauna Paraiso and Beach in Madrid. I don´t think they´re quite the place to get a GP but you could get some action (at least in Paradiso). Beach is quite rundown and it´s in a basement - they try to do events that you can find on IG to spike attendance but even on a weekend its empty (made that mistake already). Paradiso meanwhile is the place to be. Especially after midnight on a Friday or a Saturday. Quite good attendance with many different types of guys - ages and bodies. Would recommend going there.

Was in Amsterdam during the pride weekend. Everywhere was superbusy. Long lines especially at NZ and Church. 
At NZ there was a line pretty much from 2:00PM till 2:00AM. had to wait at least 1-1.5 hours to get in. not sure if it was because of pride but I paid 28 euro each time I went. Last time I was there (around 4 years ago) I remember it being only around 20. The line at Church was even worse as the place is small and it would completely fool so you had to wait for people going out. The price I think was around 16 euro. They had different themes each night. 
Went to Dirty Dicks. The entrance is technically free but you have to order a drink. Overall didn't enjoy it that much. Too small and the crowd was not of my taste. Visited also Free Willie, which actually was the only when you didn't have to pay for entrance. Wasn't bad but for some reason not much action going on.
Overall though it was a great weekend. Had so much fun and boys. Because it was the world pride it was much busier than usual and probably the most Asians I have seen at a pride in Europe. Almost a mini Taipei pride😆
