Done. Didn't respond, blocked and deleted. Thanks, everyone...I was very suspicious, which is why I asked.

Dead buffaloes are a Thai and Laotian thing; the scammer is allegedly Vietnamese - their MO is usually more insidious. But the above story is obviously fake; it's too neat and pat with one calamity following another - and completely devoid of personal references to the receipient (because it's fake) and convenient for mass circulation. It's probably written with AI assistance.

I found a decent fare with Gulf Air from Athens- 2300 euros in business return. It seems a sensible way to travel to SE Asia so Iโ€™m burning some Avios on BA froM London tomorrow for a six or seven week holiday. I also booked a coupon nights in a decent 5 * hotel in Bahrain - Gulf something or other hotel.

Iโ€™d welcome recommendations on hotels in Manila. I stayed there 20 years ago at the Peninsula but prefer to keep budget more modest - last visit was $400 usd a night for a large but shabby suite. My only memory is of the dozens of boys in lobby looking for hookups
    Shangrila? Dusit?
A decent pool for swimming. Maybe cruisy hotel spa and a bar where I can sit and soak with a well made martini. Cocks and vodka. I have simple tastes
would welcome suggestions and will do full report on Bahrain, Manila, Pnom penh and kl when I return inn 6/7 weeks.

    Thank you

Well, he posted on social media to clear up any rumors....

Why I Left Silom Soi 4?
I didn't initially plan to make a public post about this, but given the amount of gossip, rumors, and direct messages I've been receiving, I feel itโ€™s time to set the record straight regarding my departure from the venues in Silom Soi 4.
During the pandemic, while working in Thailand and running a back-office operation for my Australian software company, I stepped in to financially back some Thai friends. The goal was to help them take over two iconic locations that were at risk of closing. My intention was simple: provide the capital for them to run their own business downstairs, while I ran my separate software company upstairs.
I want to make one thing absolutely clear: I was strictly an investor and a shareholder. I was never the owner, director, or manager of these businesses. I had no control over the bank accounts, the accounting, or the hiring and firing of staff. My industry is software, not hospitality, and I made that boundary clear from day one.
While I provided the funding and tried to offer business guidance, the daily operations were entirely up to the Thai management. Unfortunately, internal infighting, severe accounting issues, and management disputes eventually made the situation unmanageable. When key managers resigned, the remaining staff were ill-equipped to run the business or get the finances in order for a potential sale.
Despite my best efforts to help them resolve these issues, my advice was repeatedly ignored. It became impossible to encourage the management to simply show up on time and take their own business seriously. I realized I was stuck trying to fix a conflict that was not of my doing.
Beyond the internal politics, the reality of the area is also changing. Much like the old Soi Twilight, it is highly likely that Soi 4 will face closure or major redevelopment soon. Operating businesses on strict, year-to-year leases with zero long-term security makes it a highly unstable environment. You never know if you will even have a lease the following year.
To answer the question people keep asking meโ€”"Did you sell and how much did you make?"โ€”the answer is no. They were not my businesses to sell. I wasn't a director, I had no right to control the final decisions, and my advice was no longer being heard.
I made the conscious decision to remove myself from an unmanageable situation. Unfortunately, I lost my entire investment in the process and received nothing back.
While I take pride in the financial support and mentorship I offered to help save those locations during a difficult time, that chapter is now completely finished and I have moved on with my life.

This is the reason why I never opened a bottle before in any of the bars, I don't wanna guess what might be inside. I rather stick to my coke or singha ๐Ÿ˜…
