IHG Points Breaks - 5,000 Points for some great hotels
TotallyOz replied to TotallyOz's topic in The Beer Bar
The one for Holiday Inn Express in Sao Paulo was gone 2 days afterwards. You have to be quick with these things. I was going to book it for the entire month and went back and it was not being offered. One month for 150,000 points is the same as 3 nights in a high end hotel and well worth being a bit out of the way IMHO. -
The Marriott gym the last time I checked was near 40k per year. The Royal Cliff is close to that as well. Both offer specials if you live there. I was curious as Wow was so great and busy and should have made great money and I am surprised no other place has opened up.

Now that California Wow has done out, has any other companies came in to take over that segment of the market? I saw in Bangkok that Fitness First has taken over a few Wow locations. Not sure if they have plans to expand or what. Anyone heard anything or know anything?

A friend from NYC just got accepted into Mahidol University in Bangkok. He asked me about it and I didn't know anything to share with him. I did google it and it says it is one of the best if not the best in Thailand. However, for someone who wants to be in academia I am not sure how much a degree from a foreign university will help them with jobs in the USA. Perhaps I am wrong but most of the professors I know tend to frown on foreign degrees. Any info on this place?

This truly surprises me. I thought the opposite would be true. I love my IPhone and I can't switch as I have so many thousands of dollars invested in the App Store, but I love the look of the Samsung.

“The voter is less important than the man who provides money to the candidate,” he said. “It’s really wrong.” Justice Steven's show retired in 2012 said. And, he proposes a constitutional amendment to void Citizen's United. Who in their right mind can disagree with this? http://www.nytimes.com/2014/04/22/us/politics/justice-stevenss-prescription-for-giant-step-in-wrong-direction.html?hp&_r=0

Alabama woman guns down son’s gay lover at truck stop
TotallyOz replied to TotallyOz's topic in The Beer Bar
A few years back in Alabama, a friend of mine got into a fight with his father in law. It was a fist fight. It was a battle of words. He told his father in law he was going to take away his son. He was at his in laws. He started to drive away. He was shot in the car as he was driving away. The father in law was acquitted as it was his land and told the boy to stay away (even though his son lived there). Don't think for one second that the laws apply to all the same in Alabama. -
Fabulous. Thanks for sharing.

I have only been hit up for cash by Thai boys about 10,000 times. Dead water buffalo. Sick parents. Grandma needs help. I want to go to Europe. It spans the gambit. I do not give in. I do not give them money. However, I'll always do a short time with them or maybe a few overnights if they want to earn some cash. I don't mind this at all. But, I won't fall for the sick mama trick. I had one American friend who paid for his BF's father's hospital bill, went to see him in the hospital and then paid for the funeral when he died. It was not cheap. About a year later the father has risen from the grave and in Pattaya to see his son. LOL

I have never really enjoyed someone who wasn't experienced. I much prefer someone that has experience that I don't have to teach what to do.

This was a great read. It was really a well-done piece of journalism. If you have time, click and read. http://www.nytimes.com/2014/04/20/magazine/how-the-president-got-to-i-do-on-same-sex-marriage.html?hp&_r=0

An Alabama woman has been charged with murder after allegedly fatally shooting her son’s boyfriend. Tuscaloosa County Deputies said that 51-year-old Anita T. Hill’s son was “involved in a long-term relationship” with 36-year-old Jamie R. Johnson. According to deputies, the three agreed to meet at Love’s Truck Stop in McCalla on Monday to talk. Investigators determined that the group talked for a while and then Hill’s son returned to his vehicle. Hill and Johnson continued speaking for a few more minutes. When Johnson turned to walk away, Hill shot him in the back. http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2014/04/15/alabama-woman-guns-down-sons-gay-lover-at-truck-stop/ Read the full account as well as the police saying she was just protecting her son and got out on 75k bail. Knowing Alabama the way I do, I bet she does not go to jail for this even though she shot him in the back.

Federal Judge Rules Ohio Ban On Out-Of-State Same-Sex Marriage Recognition Is Unconstitutional District Court Judge Timothy Black on Monday ruled that Ohio’s ban on recognizing the out-of-state marriages of same-sex couples is unconstitutional — a move he announced in court earlier this month that he would be taking. “The record before the Court … is staggeringly devoid of any legitimate justification for the State’s ongoing arbitrary discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, and, therefore, Ohio’s marriage recognition bans are facially unconstitutional and unenforceable under any circumstances,” the judge wrote. Black earlier, in another case that Ohio officials appealed to the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals, ruled that the marriage recognition laws in the state were unconstitutional — but the case was limited to the treatment of death certificates. This ruling, which related directly to treatment of birth certificates, applies to all purposes for which same-sex couples married out of state might seek recognition in Ohio. http://www.buzzfeed.com/chrisgeidner/federal-judge-strikes-down-ohios-ban-on-recognizing-same-sex

I just don't see how holding a sign saying, "I am a bully" is any more embarrassing than wearing orange jumpsuits and picking up trash on the highway.

Loved the last episode of Game of Thrones. It was fabulous. I loved that little bastard dying. Now, who do you think did it?

If he strikes a plea deal and agrees to it and it kept him out of a longer jail sentence or other punishments and he knew the consequences of the plea arrangement and he agreed to them, I don't see the issue.
