After lurking here for quite a while, I would now also like to actively participate in this great forum.

Today I coincidentally passed a bar called Black Snake here in Pattaya and since there were a few young smiling Thai boys sitting outside I was curious and went in for a drink.

Indeed it was a kind of gay go-go bar! There were around 10 boys, unfortunately all dressed, and according to the “mamasan“ all offable. I had never heard of this place, also not in this forum. However, my experience in this location was rather disappointing. Has anyone else been there?

Actually all boys were dressed and not my cup of tea. Off fee would have been 500 B, which is quite a lot for Pattaya! A bit irritating was a camera over the entrance door screening the seat of the “audience“. No surprise I was the only customer (and only stayed for one drink). Drink prices however were very reasonable.

 I wonder how long they have been already on the market (the English skills of the mamasan were too poor to answer this question) and - given these facts and its location -  if they can survive...

What kind of boys there twinks ? hunks ? Age range of the boys ?Is there a show there ? Boys rotating on stage or just sitting around.

More details will be appreciated.

I spotted Jack in one of the pics, s/he was the mamasan in Dude club many moons ago 

There are a number of places like this around the 3rd Road area....I know the mamasan of one of them. He once showed me photos of the staff. The gay bars were outclassed in terms of their looks! Very popular with the Thai wives of ageing falangs, apparently.

Since the off fee was told to me proactively and all boys were smiling at me (being the only customer) I assume I could have also offed a boy.

There is another, somewhat similar bar, Banana Man Club, on Soi 15.  Soi 15 runs from Pattaya 2nd rd , near Boyztown, parallel to 2nd road  up to the Avenue and onward to Soi Buakow.  Basically a night club for younger Thais of both genders.

Back in 2012, the Bangkok Post ran a piece about host bars that cater to straight women. I tried to post a link, but it seems to be dead. If memory serves, the reporter, a Thai woman, visited several establishments in Bangkok. I didn't recognize the names of any of them and the locations were not in tourist areas. If I remember correctly, some were open to all, but some only let women enter. She doesn't seem to have had a good time, but then the set-up doesn't sound like much fun, either.

The bar to which I referred earlier  styles itself as a karaoke bar.  The mamasans tin such bars are often ladyboys....there was a local TV programme about one a few years ago and the bar in question was "run" by three khatoeys. 

I understand that the ladies who frequent them have plenty of money. Some- as I said before- have non or under-functioning hubbies, others have men who work abroad. Some of them are highly successful bar-girls....I find this surprising. One photo I was shown was of a line of guys in briefs thatcpould have been taken in any  gay go go bar. Except that they were all stunning.

Well yes, barboys being married to bargirls (pretty common) are often too exhausted to please the wife as should. And for every service there is a way out here in TH. Elite housewifes also have too much money to spend. Several barboys have been thrown out of such places as they did not please enough, apparently in the eyes of the TH gay work pays less and is 2nd rate compared to that.

The old edtions of the TMOT handbooks (remember, when there was not even www listings) also mentioned some of those bars, in Suriwong, with the caveat that not every male customer there would be accepted, cetrainly not if they appeared too much active/top.

nothing wrong with that type of bars and I wouldn't be surprised if they were more ubiquitous than we even suspect.
