Anyone care to guess what these guys are waiting for? I think this is Bangkok?

A bus?

Either to join a protest or to earn some revenue ?

Looks very vaguely like lads at Saranrom park, except there are more lads and better lighting than I ever remember & I'm not sure that's the location either.    

So I would guess they are waiting to join a protest.

It was a pic I came across in my gay Twitter feed.  The poster often posts army guys in underwear or flashing their endowments.  He posted one hot video of a army guy in short, sitting and cutting into some meat.  His legs are ooen  and if you looked closely, you saw more than he bargained for haha.

What lovely fun!

They may be temprary workers waiting for engagement although it seems it's quite late 

I like the first guy and if I was passing by I'd definitely smile and wink at him

They remind me of the line of guys who used to wait  for custom outside  the Pan Pacific hotel on Rama 1V. There'd also be a couple outside Macdonald's and Robinson's on the corner of Silom.

I also thought at first that this had to be boys outside Saranrom Park waiting for customers to pass by in their cars. The fact they are quite spread out also seems to indicate that. But the photo was taken too early the day. You can see the late afternoon sun and these boys rarely appeared before 8:00pm. 

Looking at photos of the park, I do not recognise the railings. If the boys were waiting for work, they would surely be closer together. Similarly were they going to a protest at least one would surely have a placard or some other sign. All very curious.

The shadows suggest 2 light sources of similar power, so I believe it's artificial light.    That's way brighter than the lighting I remember Saranrom park, but it's been a few years since I ventured up there at night.

We both have long memories.

It was on my very first trip that I observed this same scene. Tarntawan Place had sent a car to the airport and the driver got into the left traffic lane on Rama 4 in preparation for the turn onto Surawong. Traffic was very heavy as we crept along and I was wondering what all these cute young guys were doing on that block.

After quickly showering and unpacking a few things, I walked back up Surawong to Rama 4. Although I had no idea where or what I was doing (other than engaging my hunting instincts), the smiles came quick and easy. The third or fourth guy took the few steps towards me, touched my arm and said, "we go your hotel."

He informed me of the financial expectation (500) and that he was university student. I later learned that many of the others on that strip were also students or day workers supplementing their income.

That was my brief but excellent introduction to Bangkok.

The last answer to the twitter thread can be translated as : "these are spy soldiers who secretly came here to catch the mob ; the place is the 11th Infantry Regiment quarters (that's probably so)". Note to thai readers : "natacha" means spies for obvious reasons.

Google gave me the answer about where these quarters are located in Bangkok : Phahonyothin Road in Bang Khen area, just south of the well-known Laksi roundabout. And Google Street View could confirm this in an unmistakable way (picture below).

Even has a skytrain station now.  

I'm not quite sure what the grand plan is here, as that's on the Green Line, running the wrong side of the runway from DMK airport, fairly close to a planned Red Line.

I recalled one of the place they gather for protest was near the kasetsart university, which is pretty close to this area. Perhaps they were on standby for potential protest.
