Other things to do in Bangkok

Featured Replies

Ok next trip I'm taking a friend of mine , Gay Filipino guy 32yo

We are both travelling to Bangkok from Australia

He has never been before

Now because of work commitments he will only stay a week in Bangkok

I'm not a Bangkok guy so don't know it as much as Pattaya

So in that week he has with me , other than gay bars ,what other places can I take him

We are both interested in gyms so is there any outdoor gyms ?

Parks ,I guess Lumpini park Benjamin park

He is into going to  Cafes , restaurants ,small bars etc

Maybe a river cruise , the big markets .

Probably won't be interested in museums like I am ,

After a week it will probably get boring for him I guess tagging along with a guy double his age

Maybe show him Pattaya for 3 days or so out of that 7

Chatuchak weekend market

Jodd fairs Rama 9 night market

MBK / Siam Square / Central World / T21 shopping centers

Icon SIAM shopping center

Chinatown

Taking Chan floating market

Mahanakhon observation deck

Bangkok Art and Cultural Center (BACC) - it's a modern art gallery next to MBK but probably more interesting to him than a museum

Lumphini is nice for an afternoon walk, i did see outdoor gym there but didn't investigate closer, you can also hire those little paddle boats if you want a lomantic little paddle boat around 😂

Bars

Tichuca Rooftop Bar

Cassette Bar / HI-SO (SO/ hotel)

Above Eleven

Vertigo (Banyan Tree Hotel)

Gaze cocktail bar Thong Lor

The standard - mahanakhon building

That's probably all i have off the top of my head / notes

Some places and things I like

  • Grand Palace (dress codes and beware scammers trying to say its closed, ignore them and go to the entrance)
  • Chao Phraya Princess River Cruise dinner, I enjoyed having this dinner cruise only goes for a couple of hours but is enjoyable

  • Asiatique, a bit touristy but some nice restaurants and an easy free commute on the ferry

  • Lumphini, I imagine the outdoors gym is still going

  • I do like the National Museum. I thought I would just throw that one in even though he may not be interested but still worth a look

  • Will second Chatuchak weekend market but my advice is to go early

  • A restaurant I really like is The Mango Tree on Soi Tarntawan (just around the corner from Tarntawan Hotel)

The gym in Lumphini Park is definitely still there. For a very small fee you can have a workout and also buy bottles of water. This gym has a bench press with tyres on each side of the bar, which is quite a novelty. There was another gym too, but not as good. I don't know if that one is still there.

Many hotels, such as Quarter Silom and Quarter Saladaeng have adequate gyms.
