Budapest Gay Pride is a threat to children!

Viktor Orban's increasingly extreme attempt to associate homosexuality with paedophilia, in order to drive homosexuality back into the closet, seems to be reaching a fulcrum with the banning of the Budapest Gay Pride march next weekend, on the grounds that it might be seen by children who would be forever scarred(or seduced?) by the event.

The libertarian Mayor of Budapest(challenger to Orban in the next national elections) is determined that the march should go ahead and European MEPs and human rights activists have pledged their support and to be present on the march.

"June 18, 2025 – The Trevor Project received official notice yesterday that the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is initiating the closure of the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline’s LGBTQ+ Youth Specialized Services program within 30 days, effective July 17, 2025. Jaymes Black, CEO of The Trevor Project, released the following statement in response:

“We received official notice that the Trump administration has ordered the closure of The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline’s LGBTQ+ Youth Specialized Services program, effective July 17, 2025. This means that, in 30 short days, this program that has provided life-saving services to more than 1.3 million LGBTQ+ young people will no longer be available for those who need it. “This is devastating, to say the least. Suicide prevention is about people, not politics. The administration’s decision to remove a bipartisan, evidence-based service that has effectively supported a high-risk group of young people through their darkest moments is incomprehensible. The fact that this news comes to us halfway through Pride Month is callous – as is the administration’s choice to remove the ‘T’ from the acronym ‘LGBTQ+’ in their announcement. Transgender people can never, and will never, be erased.

The attempt to suppress the march looks likely to backfire with this years parade forecast to be the largest ever.

 

Record numbers of people are expected to take part in Budapest Pride on Saturday, with Hungarians joining forces with campaigners and politicians from across Europe in a march that has become a potent symbol of pushback against the Hungarian government’s steady rollback of rights.

“This weekend, all eyes are on Budapest,” Hadja Lahbib, the European commissioner for equality, told reporters in the Hungarian capital on Friday. “This is bigger than one Pride celebration, one Pride march. It is about the right to be who you are, to love who you want, whether it is in Budapest, in Brussels or anywhere else.”

The country’s main Pride march was cast into doubt earlier this year after the country’s ruling Fidesz party – led by the rightwing populist Viktor Orbán – backed legislation that created a legal basis for Pride to be banned, citing a widely criticised need to protect children. The government also said it would use facial recognition software to identify people attending any banned events, potentially fining them up to €500 (£425).

Great idea and great photo. This is another amazing photo of the crowds attending the march crossing Budapest's Elisabeth Bridge. Estimates of attendance vary between 180,000 and 200,000.

Are you not talking about something that happened in Belgium 5 years ago? If so, what has that to do with Budapest Pride 2025? If not, then please provide more detail.
