Thx (-: The cremation ceremony of HM Queen Sirikit, the late Queen Mother is tentatively slated for the end of October. I don't think the date has been announced yet. The evening before the funeral and the day itself may be no-alcohol days but we'll only know for sure closer to the event. Expect major roads to be closed for rehearsals and the actual cortege on those two days. Security will be tight.

But it also depends on the very elaborate cremation complex being completed as well as other Royal obligations. The exact date should be announced relatively soon. For those who have never witnessed the cremation ceremony for a senior member of the Thai Royal Family, it is a unique occasion which you may wish to view, at least on television.

I never heard of a Tibetan sky burial. The only open air one I know is that of the Zoroastrians. Since that religion was founded in Persia, it used to be quite common. But now it is banned and those who wish their loved ones' bodies to be eaten by the vultures and buzzards have to send the bodies to Mumbai. I'm sure you'll remember from your trip that outside the city of Yazd there are what are termed the Towers of Silence where bodies used to be placed. This is one.
August 7Aug 7 Yes. I also visited Towers of Silence in Yazd. Strange eerie feeling. Tibetan sky burial is even more drastic - body is chopped and feed to the waiting vultures. Not sure how wide is practiced nowadays but was near Sera monastery in Lhasa as late as May 1986.

According to the webpage Theo Courant the Queen’s cremation ceremonies will take place between 14 and 19 December will the main day being 15 December.
