I have no idea what is the difference between "Hello wai" and "apologies wai". By Coconuts Bangkok May. 15, 2017 It doesn’t matter in which way they disrespected Thai culture — just that these foreigners were forced to do an apologetic “wai” in the press photos when they were caught. After the public humiliation as a much-photographed public bowing sesh — an act that many vacationing farangs don’t even understand but simply perform because they are told to — the case is closed and everybody leaves satisfied. After a fine of THB500-1,000 is paid, of course. To drive home the country’s culture of public shaming, when those arrested are not Thai, they …

Who saw this coming? Dumpster fires FBI leader James Comey, who was leading the investigation into Trumps ties to Russia. I guess this clearly shows Comey was getting too close for Trumps comfort...? I hope this DOES NOT close the book on the Trump investigation. He is undoubtedly GUILTY and must be dealt with.

For anyone that hates TRUMP as much as I do, and has access to Comedy Central or On Demand Programming, you MUST watch a new show called The President Show, which really skewers Trump and shows him for what he really is, a disconnected, spoiled, self indulgent bratty man-child. It's only 3 episodes in, and I laughed thru all 3. Each is 1/2 hr format, and the comedian who portrays TRUMP rivals Alec Baldwin but takes it to a whole other level. There is a guest star each week, all of whom HATE and oppose Trump, and HE interviews them. The Mothers Day episode wheres Trumps dead mama belittles him is "chilling".... Highly recommended ++++++ Anthony Ata…

From Channel News Asia BANGKOK: Large crowds and long queues are common in almost every Thai public hospital. Rural hospitals in particular are suffering from a severe shortage of doctors and most are short on funds. According to the Thai Medical Council, there are just over 50,000 doctors in the country - with almost half of them clustered in Bangkok. The unequal distribution of medical practitioners means hospitals in rural areas are overcrowded with only a handful of doctors. Some observers say the shortage of doctors comes from a more systematic failing of the Thai healthcare system. “Speaking from my personal experience - the reason why the public he…

A young Thai man saw an opportunity and took it. Aware that he could use a bath, he improvised when he spotted a broken water pipe that was creating a pool by the side of the road in Pattaya. He proceeds to demonstrate how it's done with aplomb while maintaining his dignity. That a passerby decides it's worthy of posting illustrates that we're constantly under observation when we walk out the door. According to the Pattaya Daily News, the person who posted it on FB makes sarcastic comments (you Thai speakers can judge for yourself). You can find the article along with link to FB video here: http://pattayadailynews.com/well-played-man-taking-a-baht-at-broken-wat…

It seems jumping from a shopping mall/Airport/condo is a expat's favourite suicide method. BANGKOK — A man fell to his death early Tuesday morning from the top of a Silom Road shopping mall. The body of the unidentified man was found at about 1am in front of the Thaniya Plaza shopping mall in what police believe was a suicide. The deceased, thought to be a foreign national in his 40s, bore a Yin-Yang tattoo on his right wrist, according to Col. Nakorn Tongpanich, chief of Bang Rak police. Nakorn said police reviewed CCTV footage and saw the man enter the building alone. They believe he leaped of his own volition. http://www.khaosodenglish.com/…

From Daily Mail (UK) Police in Thailand are trying to establish if a retired British teacher committed suicide because he was receiving lower pension payments. Trevor Roberts was found dead in the Nan River in Phitsanulok, 300 miles north of Bangkok on Thursday. Police were told by the 74-year-old's Thai wife that he had been complaining about his British pension, leading officers to consider whether this could be the reason for his death. His sister-in-law, Phuangthong Nuanjan, has told police that Mr Roberts and his wife had been arguing lately because he was receiving less pension money than before due to changes in the way it was paid. Although t…

No longer in just certain areas anymore, they have banned street food in all of Bangkok now, in my view it's just madness. http://www.nationmultimedia.com/news/national/30312543 STREET FOOD vendors will disappear from Bangkok by the end of the year in the interests of cleanliness, safety and order, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) says. In the capital, which is internationally recognised for its street food, famous locations such as Chinatown/Yaowarat and Khao San Road would be cleared of vendors in a bid to beautify Bangkok. A month after the city was named the finest street food destination in the world by CNN for the second year, the Bangkok Metr…

I must be a masochist because I've been watching "Fire Island" (Produced partly by Kelly Ripa). I'm desperate for some gay content on television, so I started watching this series. The cast of "men" seem so inane and narcissistic. They obviously all have good paying jobs and spend a lot of time and money on grooming, but this vacation is bust. There is so much whining and complaining which, I guess, is supposed to be drama. Not very compelling. Shame on me for watching, but one gets lonely up here in the far north and I hunger for even a modicum of pseudo gay culture.

From Pattaya Mail Thais’ love of somtam is leading to higher cancer rates and deaths, the head of the Chonburi Cancer Hospital told medical professionals in Pattaya. Dr. Sutat Duangdeeden was the lead speaker at the center’s 8th annual cancer seminar at the A-One Royal Cruise Hotel. Sutat said rates of deaths caused by cancer in Thailand have increased in recent years with 60,000 cases now reported annually. Fatality rates also are increasing. While he noted that causes of cancer vary, Thais’ love of “pla ra” or raw fish used in somtam, as well as other undercooked foods are responsible for increased rates of worm infections, which can lead to liver cance…

Despicable - Jared Kushners sister Nicole Meyer peddles US Visa's to China for investment in her project.... So here we have another family member, distant albeit, trying to PROFIT off the Trump presidency.. WE NEED TO BE RID OF ALL THESE PEOPLE When Jared Kushner’s sister took the stage in two Chinese ballrooms over the weekend to urge investors to fund a New Jersey development through a controversial visa program, she mentioned her brother’s role in the White House and displayed a photo of PresidentDonald Trump. It was a not-so-subtle signal that hers is a family company with connections. What she didn’t mention was that the project…

Excerpts from Buriram Times A poll about attitudes to prostitution clearly shows that Thais believe that when foreigners think of Thailand, they think of sex. A whopping 58% of Thais asked in the Bansomdej poll said that foreigners see Thailand as a leading sex destination of the world. The poll asked 1,158 Thai people in Bangkok their opinions and came in the wake of comments in foreign media about places like Pattaya and the sex scandal developing in Mae Hong Sorn. The survey showed that people believed that the trade was shifting from traditional places to the internet with more than 61% saying they had seen evidence of the Thai sex trade online. N…
