Any suggestions for a dvr and/or streaming type service where I can get the networks? I also enjoy watching channels like: HIST, HGTV, TLC, CNBC, FX, A & E, DISC, USA, AMC, HBO & TRAVEL Have Comcast now (Xfinity) and they're determined to sell me more services than I want or need.

From Pattayaone and Thai Visa Figures revealed by the British government show a huge drop of visitors to Thailand in recent years but a massive rise in arrests especially for drugs. Also when taken as a percentage far more British people are dying in Thailand and being hospitalized than compared to just three or four years ago. While the figures worldwide show less overall problems for British embassies and consulates around the world the situation in Thailand is worse. From a high of 906,000 visitors in 2013/14 there were only 432,000 British visitors to Thailand in 2015/16. Yet despite this more than 50% drop in visitors drug arrests soared from 29 t…

Just a reminder to those coming from an airport into downtown Bangkok by public transport. If you are travelling by Skytrain or the subway you will be stopped at the ticket barrier and be prepared to open your luggage for inspection. Anything from a backpack or carrier bag to suitcases. Far easier to take a taxi and not a lot more expensive compared to your air ticket and take no nonsense from the driver (insist meter turned ON). Oh, as an afterthought, any bags you are carrying into a shopping mall will also be inspected.

The following article describes a chain of inexpensive hotels known as "Hop Inn." Being completely unfamiliar with them, I spot checked some Trip Advisor reviews and they seem to rate fairly well among guests. They appear to have numerous locations in the north and northeast regions and other locations around LOS in the price range of $16 US or less with current promotion. From The Nation Book soon and you can stay at any of the 25 Hop Inns across the country for Bt99 per night. The hotel chain is offering the low rate to celebrate the opening of the 25th outlet. Rooms can be booked from June 12 to 14 for stays anytime before October 31. Hop Inns boas…

I spotted the other day, a bank of left luggage lockers on Sal Daeng Skytrain/Silom subway station. They are bright yellow in colour and at the extreme end of the 'Skywalk' where you connect to Silom subway station. I didn't get close enough to see prices. They looked to be a couple of feet high. They look to be coin operated.

From Coconuts Bangkok An Englishman died after he jumped seven stories from the restaurant at the Westin Grande Sukhumvit Bangkok hotel last night. Andrew Frank C. Browning, 67, was found dead outside the hotel. In his possession, officers found a suicide letter addressed to his daughter, which had been kept as evidence. Witnesses said that Browning had ordered a drink at the restaurant before he walked over to the balcony. Before they knew it, he had jumped, according to manager. Police suspect that Browning had decided to end his life due to severe health concerns. The forensics department at Chulalongkorn Hospital will examine him to determine the…

I wont be satisfied with simply the removal of TRUMP. Let's keep in mind, the people that voted for him, voted for DONALD, and NOT his entire incompetent and inexperienced family. OK, we can deal with a detached FLOTUS, but the kids and the in-laws NO WAY.... When Trump goes, we need to insure the 2 sons Beavus & Butthead, along with sweatshop master Ivanka, AND puppett Jared all go too ! And we need legislation to ensure THIS kind of nepotism NEVER happens again, especially if the parties have NO experience in govt and are therefore ill-prepared to handle their jobs... The office is NOT about personal benefit, its about "serving the people", which is …

Well, I was waiting for this tidbit with baited breath, and suddenly, there it is.... the "alleged" TRUTH about the Donald/Melania relationship.... Juicy stuff and kinda makes sense.... MORE CHARADES from the TRUMPS To those who have been closely watching, it's no big secret that Melania Trump is perhaps the most miserable person in America. FLOTUS has been seen slapping away Donald Trump's hand grabs, secretly liking anti-Trump tweets, and not-so-convincingly feigning happiness at every public event since the start of her husband's campaign. Not that we blame her, of course — but one novelist is making BOMBSHELL accusations…

From The Mirror (UK) A naked British tourist plunged from a hotel balcony following a boozy session with a 'ladyboy' hooker. The middle-aged man in his 40s was pictured covered in blood after he mysteriously fell from the balcony at around 5am this morning. He had spent the night with transsexual prostitute Sittipong Maneekat, 35, who said they had a "good time" after taking food and alcohol back to the third floor room in Pattaya, Thailand. But at 5am this morning the man fell after he went for a cigarette outside. Onlookers covered him with a small towel and gave him a pair of shorts as rescue workers bandaged his head. "The prostitute said she had…

From Khaosod English BANGKOK — A historic library for bookworms and art lovers is struggling with its infrastructural decline and asking the public to help save the 148-year-old building to remain for another decade. Operated as a non-profit library since 1922, Neilson Hays Library is located in a serene side of Surawong Road for the public to enjoy a wide range of English-language books along with art and cultural activities. Designed by Italian architect Mario Tamagno, the architectural gem’s structure has endured Bangkok’s humidity and rains for decades, which has led it to display visible damages. The restoration will be conducted by Thai architects who sp…

From Bangkok Post Another pipe bomb was found Tuesday afternoon near Ratchadaphisek Road and the Thailand Cultural Centre MRT Station, sparking public concerns that another bomb attack could be imminent, despite security assurances by the authorities. National police chief Chakthip Chaijinda said no connection has been found between the discovered bomb and the hospital blast at this stage of the investigation, but initial findings show the bomb, which was assembled in an 20-centimetre long metal pipe, resembled the device used in the Ratchaprasong area several years ago. The device was said to be a steel pipe about 20cm long with a fuse. The pipe was in a gr…

The Bank of Thailand remains worried about a strong baht and short-term capital inflows, the governor said on Monday, as the currency traded near its highest against the dollar in more than 22 months. The central bank is ready to act on any excessive moves in the baht, Veerathai Santiprabhob told a seminar. "If there are large fund inflows, and causing high volatility in the baht, it's the central bank's duty to act on it with instruments available," Mr Veerathai said. The baht had gained more than other currencies over the past week, the governor said, because analysts interpreted a monetary policy committee statement on May 24 to mean the central bank was un…
