From the BBC By Fergus Walsh Medical editor Men undergoing treatment for prostate cancer could be safely given far less radiotherapy, a major trial has found. Doses can be cut by three-quarters meaning five higher doses is enough, instead of the 20 or so given now. The international trial involved nearly 900 men with medium-risk prostate cancer that had not spread. Lead researcher Prof Nicholas van As from the Royal Marsden Hospital said the results were "outstanding" and "fantastic" for patients. Prostate Cancer UK said the finding had the …

The recent discussion about health matters among aging gay men in Pattaya prompted me to post this report from the Harvard School of Public Health: ---------------------------------- A study from Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH) adds to evidence that eating breakfast is important for good health. HSPH researchers found that men who regularly skipped breakfast had a 27% higher risk of heart attack or death from coronary heart disease than those who did eat a morning meal. Non-breakfast-eaters were generally hungrier later in the day and ate more food at night, perhaps leading to metabolic changes and heart disease. The study was published July 22, 2013 in t…

The current issue of the Harvard Men's Health Letter featured an article on tainted sexual enhancement products that make claims to increase testosterone, prevent erectile dysfunction or boost stamina. According to the FDA, these products may cause potentially serious side effects and interact with other medications or dietary supplements. 5. Believe this if you will. It just happens to be true. Burger King has a new offering - a Cheeseburger. No, not the usual burger with cheese on top. A burger with ONLY cheese within the bun! Up to 20 slices of fattening processed American cheese! Even better - perhaps! There is a limited time 'opening' offer of 109 baht compared to the usual 380 baht! News has apparently gone viral on social media but reports from those who ordered the new burger have not been flattering. Now why is that not a surprise! https://edition.cnn.com/2023/07/11/business/thailand-burger-king-cheeseburger-intl-hnk/index.html

From time to time we read posts about what services visitors can expect from pharmacies in Bangkok. Some meds that require prescription in west may be available over the counter in Thailand. I’ve found that Chaka pharmacy (Rama 4 between Sil and Surawong) is convenient and offers very competitive prices. You take a number from machine as you enter and wait for it to display above counter. English well spoken an service is quick. They give you bill which you take to cashier and then pick up your order on way out. In the evening I’ve found the small pharmacy on Patpong 2 near Foodland is convenient for more popular items you may suddenly require. An article about…

From The Nation As the temperature approaches 41 degrees Celsius in some areas of the country, the Association of Occupational and Environmental Diseases of Thailand has released a list of seven recommendations to cope with health-threatening heat. The list follows a rise in public concern about the dangers of extreme heat following the sudden death on Friday of political figure Chonsawat Asavahame, 54, who reportedly collapsed from heat stroke on Thursday before dying early on Friday. 1. Avoid outdoor activity when the temperature exceeds 34 degrees Celsius. 2. Wear loose clothing made from thin fabric. 3. Drink plenty of …

From The Nation Three new cases of monkeypox have been detected in Thailand, raising the number to 18 since the first was detected in July of last year, the Department of Disease Control (DDC) said on Friday. The three patients hospitalized with the infectious disease are all men, and their ages range from 21 to 40 years, DDC director-general Dr Tharet Krutnairawiwong told a press conference. Two of the men were close friends, Tharet said. He said one of the three patients is a foreigner. All three patients had mild cases and are recovering at Bamrasnaradura Infectious Diseases Institute. From The Nation One of Thailand’s top virologists on Monday listed 10 things we have learned from the new coronavirus as the world shifts out of pandemic mode. This year will be “game over” for Covid-19, said Dr Yong Poovorawan, head of the Centre of Excellence in Clinical Virology at Chulalongkorn University, in a Facebook post. However, he added the pandemic had changed the world in several aspects. “We have lived with Covid-19 for more than three years. This is what we have learned so far and the estimation of what will happen next,” said Yong. 1. Covid-19 is like influenza in the sense that the virus will evolve in a bid to coexis…

We all know better than to take the varied medical advice that posters love giving, so my statement that rimming is safe and fun should be taken with a grain of salt. Never rim with salt on either end. That's good advice too, but don't follow it, follow your doctor's advice. My doctor once told me that rimming was God's gift to gay men! He did! Should this guy do it? It sure looks clean!

I had a gastric sleeve done at Bumrungrad in December 2017. I thought others might like to hear my experience. First, I spent a lot of time researching and talking to my doctor. He recommended a surgeon for me and I met with him. I liked him and we set a date for the preoperative procedures which included sending a camera down my throat and heart exam, etc. The throat exam was done under anesthesia and thus I remember nothing. But, all the doctors I met with signed off on the procedure so it was a go. The cost for the surgery was estimated at 650,000-700,000 Thai-Baht which included 4 nights in the hospital. The procedure itself took 2 hours. I was in the post…

Can I ask many if you as you get into your senior years are you still taking care of yourself And what I mean by that is ,you guys past 50 are you eating a good diet ,doing any exercise and no smoking ,limited drinking or have you let yourself go? I see prostate cancer in men has risen . Please guys go get a PSA blood test and a rectal exam. The last few days I have noticed increased urination myself I'm thinking possibly prostate cancer and have booked in to see a Urologist next week!!! Please ask your doctor for a PSA blood test ASAP to determine your prostate level . Look to be honest it appears going by Google they can't do anything anyway if you have the cancer but least they can slow it down . I have booked in with a young Asian urologist which will cost me around $400 but better to be safe than sorry . He will do the physical rectal anal exam of putting his finger in my bum to …

Buy a new scale! We went to Costco to get a scale since our new gym is frugal and does not provide one. My weight at the store on their sample scale was 4 pounds higher than on the one we took home. The bf was not as lucky. Using the same scales, he only lost 2 more pounds with the new scale.

  18. 6 Vegetables That Might Save Your Life Posted: 08/24/2014 12:10 pm EDT Updated: 08/25/2014 1:59 pm EDT By Timothy Gower for Men's Journal If there's one food that no one -- not your doctor, your nutritionist or even your mother -- will tell you to eat less of, it's leafy greens. Calorie for calorie, chard, collards, kale and other leafy greens may just be the most nutritious food you can eat. They're packed with vitamins -- A, B, K and others -- but also rich in essential minerals like calcium, iron, potassium and magnesium, as well as antioxidants, which protect cells against damage. Leafy greens contain phytochemicals, natural compounds that can help prevent …

They’ve come up with many other cures and therapeutics over the years. These are the people, the best, the smartest, the most brilliant anywhere. They’ve come up with the AIDS vaccine.” “Or the AIDS, and the as you know theres various things, and now various companies are involved and the therapeutic for AIDS. AIDS was a death sentence and now people live a life with a pill,” he continued."(Huffpost) I am wondering if he will have his Tulsa rally guests getting the vaccine. That way they can just…

  23. My domestic partner "Chris" and I have been on a cruise ship trip from Iceland to Boston for the last 2 weeks. We're amazed to see that many people, though not a majority, seem unwilling to adapt their views and behavior as new data and statistics become available. The week before we left, we heard the pubic health statistics from our chief medical officer for Los Angeles County on the radio. In our county of over 10 million people, there were 1100 (0.01% of the population) in the hospital who tested positive for the virus (despite an overall prevalence of 2% of people who were testing due to being in jobs which required routine testing). Of those testing positive, the va…
