  1. The style here Rio de JAneiro now is too wear button-down, long-sleeved shirts (camisa social) rolled up to the elbow if one wants to appear well-dressed, in contrast to those from poorer neighborhoods or the favelados. Cheio is full. True. Estomago cheio. Full stomach. But a much better word would be "lotado" for a packed sauna.
  2. Been her over 6 years and never needed to use any of these phrases. I need to widen my standards and practices. Coloca o dedo no seu cu No idea Deixie mole/Sem pau duro Abre seu cu totalmente Chupa meu cu - Lick/Eat my ass Quero comer seu cu - I want to fuck your ass
  3. http://time.com/4172821/rio-olympics-financial-crisis/ Two or three weeks ago, there was a report the the UFRJ medical school hospital near Galeao, the second largest hospital for transplants in South America, had stop surgeries except for only the greatest emergencies due to lack of funds, donor organs are not being used to save lives and going to waste. Last week or the week before, two state hospitals were transferred to the metropolitan government as the state had no funds to operate them. The Museu da Amanha at the Praca Maua was finally opened just over a week ago. Completed at triple the original budget. http://traveller24.news24.com/Explore/watch-rio-de-janeiro-street-muggings-go-viral-ahead-of-olympic-games-20160111 The video is taken at the corner of the plaza by the Largo do Carioca metro station. More marauding gangs of kids in arrastaoes on the beach in Copacabana last week.
  4. Posters need to read up about what is really going on in this country before making assumptions.
  5. I've not been on this site for awhile, but the posters here do not have a clue about the Olympic preparations. Planning. Problems. It might help to read the newspapers for some more factual information. The money spent and/or wasted on the Olympics is nothing in comparison to the theft concerning all things Petrobras. Google about the wasted 50 plus billions of Reais(and counting) for the new Itaborai oil refinery. Never finished and current construction now suspended. As far as driving between Barra and Copa/Ipa. 2 BRT lines have been completed and a third BRT connecting the large area at Deodoro is supposed to be completed by the opening. I drove out to Barra da Tijuca two days ago, passing the still under construction stations in Leblon, Sao Conrado and Barra. The new stayed bridge is still not completed either. The Maracana and Maracanazinho, Sambodoromo and Engenhao are not in Copa/Ipa either. This will be one games where it will be advisable to travel by public transit. The new terminal expansion at Galeao is progressing very well. The works on the new mall and hotel at Santos Dumont are basically completed. The doubling of the Joa Elevado will never be completed in time for the games. I'll take bets on this one. Biggest problem here at the moment is the lack of money coming from the state and federal governments to finish things. The health system here is bankrupt. The state first asked Brasilia for 435 million Reais, last week the request was upped to about 1.3 billion Reais, This only is to pay off some old debts. The government doesn't have the money to pay everyone their 13th month payment/bonus. This caused poor Christmas retail sales. Brasil is an export based economy. Raw material prices are down throughout the world. This country is going broke. We're now in a tenth consecutive quarter of economic contraction. 2015 had an official inflation rate of 10.7% and this year is already predicted at a bit under 7%. Worrying about getting from Copa/Ipa to Barra for some events is the least of their worries.
  6. I guess I have some cleanliness issues. Thère was no water going to the first floor when I left yesterday. The upstairs showers had no soap in the dispenser. Acyr and Jorge, the owners are charging similar to Monik at 117, no reason they cannot take better care of their establishment if they want my money.
  7. Meio Mundo was a filthy pit last night. Besides being a hot hellhole. The temperatures got up to 106 in Copacabana. Even hotter in the Zona Oeste. I left in disgust at about 5:30. The toilets on the third floor are locked closed and unavailable to be used. The showers on the first floor were not operable. They were trying to fix one of the faucets. It turns out that there wasn't water getting to the first floor. The third floor showers worked. Of course, someone stole my clean and dry towel and left me a dirty wet one. There was no way the air conditioning system could keep up.
  8. The Museu do Amanha opens today to the public (for free) for thrity-six hours starting this morning. After Sunday, the entry fee will be a reasonable 10Reais. There is also a museum pass including the MAR art museum, also located on the Praca Maua with a discounted entry. Designed by Santiago Calatrava, the final published cost is actually three times the quoted price in the linked THE GUARDIAN article. 650million Reais versus the 230million quoted. Knowing how things to work, I suspect final price will be even higher. Calatrava's supposed inspiration is a bromeliad. To me, either the back of an alligator, scales of a snake or the long and thick dick of one of the hung garotos de programa at Meio Mundo. But I have been by the Praca Maua in the last two months and the area has never looked better. The whole area is very cool as a large plaza closed to all vehicular traffic except for the new VLT tram line. Between the two museums, as well as the Banco do Brasil and Correios Cultural Centers a couple of blocks away, it does make a nice way to spend the day before heading over to Meio Mundo. I just hope it doesn't suffer the fate of Amsterdam's NEMO by Renzo Piano. http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/dec/17/museum-of-tomorrow-rio-de-janeiro-brazil-sustainability
  9. The Brasilian judge ordered WhatsApp to run a wire tap on the trafficker's communications. WhatsApp did not respond to the judge's order as well as not making the appearances in court as requested. They broke the law. Whether they could or should do as requested, they missed at least three different court appearances.
  10. We have had lots of crappy weather with rain, clouds and cool weather. Today is a glorious one with clear skies, bright and hot. The beach is fairly crowded. Cariocas on the weekend are petty much beach addicts.
  11. There is an outlet of the Casa Do Alemao in Leblon on Rua Ataulfo de Paiva. Good and not so expensive. Cheaper than Casa Ullrich in Centro. Something different if one is overloaded on the a quilo restaurant buffets.
  12. Take the teleferico over the Complexo de Alemao. One can get an integracao rail pass at Central for the train to get there and the teleferico. Get off and on as often as you wish. Return trip on the teleferico is free. Trains run frequently. Go to Abrico for gay nude beaching.
  13. Atheletes get their air conditioning. http://www.abcactionnews.com/sports/olympics/rio-de-janeiro-2016-organizers-change-mind-will-provide-free-air-conditioning-in-athletes-bedrooms
  14. Just wait. Some people doubted me when I said that there was no possibility of the bay getting at all in cleaned up in time for the games in past posts. I haven't even let my dogs swim in the bay in about two years. There were riots on the Avenida Paulista yesterday with tear gas and flying waves of police on foot, motorcycles and SUV's. UFRJ hospital in Rio on Ilha Fundao near the airport has stopped taking in any patient other than emergencies. No more elective surgeries. A UERJ hospital that specializes in HIV cases is not taking any new patients and is closing 165 current beds, Third party employees have not been paid in six months, No money for supply purchases either. It was announced that the athlete's village for the Games will not have air conditioning as there is no money. UERJ near Maracana has no money to pay third party employees. i.e. Cleaners and security as well as students on scholarship are not getting their money. And so it goes. Oh, and Dilma faces impeachment by the legislators. One is Romario, ex-football star and current senator and Cunha, leader of the Camara or House of Representatives, who have both been found to have multiple illegal accounts in Switzerland worth millions. The Line 4 Metro is supposed to start in June, 2 months before the games. However, they still have 700 meters to drill and they are now in the worst stretch of the whole works to finish. And at least two stations are not close to being done. Gavea/PUC will definitely not be open in time for the games. Dirty water in Guanabara Bay? It has only been getting worse over the past 3 years. What's a MRSA or worse among some water sports athletes. This place will be an armed camp if the government wants to avoid what happened on the Avenida Paulista in SP yesterday.
  15. Make sure that you get to the front of the line for the helicopter. The view in the front next to the pilot is the best.
  16. Well, BADBOY81, I'd have loved to be back in the USA celebrating the holiday with my family and friends. I normally do return for a visit in November. But until mid-January I am not permitted to travel that far by my cardiologist. In 2010, the Marriott had a wonderful spread for Thanksgiving. This year, not so much.
  17. Wish I had tried the Gringo Cafe in Ipanema. I've never been there although I've walked past it on numerous occasions. Next time.
  18. I went to the the Marriott for the supper last night. Not even close to what it was when I went in 2010. Price was 132.00Reais 120.00Reais plus 10% service charge Much smaller selection of items. Many items were oversalted. Only white turkey meat available. Everything pre-sliced. No one carving. Stuffing was too salty. Sweet potato casserole was okay. The had some dry cold cornbread and not a zip of butter to spread over it. I was jonesing for cranberries, green bean casserole and pumpkin pie, All were very good but would have liked some whipped cream or ice cream to top it off. The walnut pie(not pecan) was really dry and the apple pie (in an American hotel) was terrible. Had a bottle of Chardonay with supper. 190Reais plus 10% service. I got fucked and didn't even cum. Across the lobby the American society down here was having their own buffet. Next time I'll go with the them. Perhaps the cost might have been less. At the minimum, more opportunities to meet some other ex-pats.
  19. Less time spent in Foz the better, IMHO. Stay on the Argentina side where the food is much better. Bring someone with you or use an app.
  20. Beach info recommendations: 30 or 40 Reais is not enough to bring if you plan on spending the day 15 Reais for one chair and the umbrella. 5 Reias for a soft drink 15 Reais for a caipirinha Empanadas, salgados and sanduiches naturais run from 3 or 4 to 10. One needs some extra money anyway to send beers to any cuties you might have interest in. Depending on the barraca they will take a debit or credit card. And will order in food for you from restaurant off of the beach. Do bring your smart phone. The barracas near Farme de Amoedo offer free wifi so you might even hook up for the afternoon and evening with someone else on the beach at the same time via Grindr, Scruff, Disponivel, etc. Before selecting which barraca ask if the " O wifi e funcionando?" Most of the mobs arrastoes happen closer to Arpoador and where there is less of a concentration of beach goers. I have never felt very safe at Copa in comparison with Ipa. Lately, although the policy is definitely racist, the police have been stopping buses coming from the north zones to the beaches and getting tough with the adolescents. I went for about 4 days running during the beginning of November and saw the stoppages and interrogations. The barracas will hold your backpacks/mochilas for you. You run a tab with them anyway and settle up as you leave. I always place my backpack around the post and then the umbrella slides into the post. No one is going to bother with mine that way. The pants get placed above the ribs of the sun umbrella. And if I have a belt, the belt gets fastened as well around the post.
  21. I have a friend visiting me from the United States. Yesterday he went to withdraw money and his transaction was blocked. We called back to the bank in the US to find out what was going on. An unauthorized charge was made on his card in the US while he was in Brasil. He only uses this card for debit withdrawals. This was a red flag for the bank. The immediately cancelled the card. He has only been using the card since Monday. And sometime Thursday or Friday it was cancelled. I asked him if he could remember anything strange. He had gone into the HSBC branch on Rua de Assembleia in Centro the previous day at about 10:20AM. Just after the branch opened. No security guards. And when he inserted the card it was a bit difficult to slide in. (NOT AT ALL LIKE HIS VERY WELL USED LOVE CANAL THIS TRIP) And he pulled out the card before typing in his pin number. I wasn't with him unfortunately. This is the same thing that has happened to me twice over the years. Once at HSBC and once at Santander. I think there was a thin paper with a magnetic strip in the slot to copy the data. Once more, stick to well attended branches. Banco do Brasil normally has guards on duty at the entrance. Try to stick to business hours. Extra Supermarket has machines. So does Santos Dumont. Go somewhere where there are other customers in the branch. And definitely check the slots on the machines that they all look consistent.
