A CURE for the gay man’s, “LONELY BLUES” Ever get gravely bored, sit back and think to yourself, “damn is this what life is about?” if so, then it’s probably your fault and things will never change until you change. What I mean is, most of us don’t put ourselves out there or in situations to meet new people and have new, exciting experiences. I’m know I’m extremely blessed to have a wonderful husband I can travel, dine, eat with and do countless of other things, but before I met my husband I was very active in a lot of gay clubs and activities. Those kinds of clubs bored the shit out of me. believe it or not, when I would go to those clubs, even though I was surrounded by lots of people, I felt very alone. The type of clubs im speaking of are gay sports clubs. In Miami we have a ton of these clubs. These clubs reach far beyond Miami though and you probably have them in your city or state and just never heard of them. Ive been a long time member of the Miami gay tennis and softball clubs. They also have gay bowling, volleyball, kickball, flag football and gay swim leagues. Before I met my husband these clubs helped fill a void that I desperately needed to be filled. Ive made lasting friendships and close bonds with many of the guys in these leagues. Before you stop reading because you feel as though youre not athletically inclined to participate in these sports, give me a second and I will tell you why you don’t have to be athletically inclined to participate in any of these leagues. First of all, each league has different divisions. Lets say for instance, you are not the strongest or fastest in the aforementioned sports. It doesn’t matter because they can put you in a division that you would perfectly fit in and is more your pace. The A division is usually for the gay guys who could probably play the sport professionally. The D division is for novices and are played at a much slower pace. If youre body wont allow you to participate because of a bum knee, back or any other ailment, then you can volunteer for one of these leagues. They are always looking for board members and people to volunteer at LOCAL, NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL TOURNAMENTS. I always play the sports so ive never volunteered, but if you ask me the volunteers have the most fun because they get to meet everyone at these local, national and international tournaments. These tournaments are lots of fun because during the tournaments the governing board have sanctioned events at gay night clubs, a members home or at a park. There is food, drinks and a shit load of comradery. These teams are usually sponsored by many of the local gay bars and they have fundraisers at these bars to raise money for team uniforms and travels. The fundraisers are a blast also. These events have afforded me the opportunity to meet a lot of nice people and forge friendships that I never would have had I not joined these leagues. A lot of times were lonely because we chose to build walls instead of bridges. In my humble opinion, the gay softball league is probably one of the better leagues to join. They have the most amazing tournaments. If you don’t believe me just google gay softball league in Miami, California or atlanta then you will see just how widespread these leagues are. Also google HURRICANE SHOWDOWN. This is an AMAZING TOURNAMENT played up in ft lauderdale each year during thanksgiving weekend. If you don’t put yourself out there to meet new people and start new friendships then you only have yourself to blame. These leagues were organized by gays in order for us to meet people just like us. I decided to write this piece because my husbands shift has changed at work and now he leaves at 3 p.m. and works until about 11 p.m. this leaves me home alone for 8 hours until he returns. when Im home alone I do get the lonely blues, but I have solace in knowing my hubby will be home by 11:30. What about the gay guy who doesn’t have a husband coming home to them at night? These clubs cant guarantee you will find the man of your dreams, (although I know many guys who have actually met their husbands in one of these leagues), but trust me on this one guys, THESE CLUBS WILL HELP CURE THE GAY MANS LONELY BLUES. Especially, if you go into the league with an open mind and a calm, humble spirit. LIFE IS LIKE A PLATE OF FOOD. IN ORDER TO SPICE IT UP, YOU HAVE TO ADD THE INGREDIENTS TO SPICE IT UP!!!!!! P.S. I met him new years eve and he spoke about falling in love with Rio and deciding to make the permanent move there and open up his restaurant. The food, especially the breakfast, is great. His desserts are addicting. When I say desserts, I mean cheesecake, red velvet cake and other goodies he has at his restaurant. Before my hubby and I took our 12 day trip over to Rio we reached out to Sam because we wanted to find a gym to workout at while we were in Rio. I hit Sam up on FB and he responded within a day and asked that I contact him on whatsapp. Sam is such a helpful guy. Within 2 days He told us to go to smartfit and buy a $6 day pass to gain access to the gym. There is a kiosk at the front door of the gym and all we needed to do was use our credit card and we could workout. Smartfit is all over Rio and they all have the same kiosk and for $6 a day you can workout, cruise all the sexy beautiful men and peek at the guys who are busy on their cell phones tending to their grindr messages. SCRUFF is also a VERY POPULAR app in rio. I actually saw a billboard advertisement for scruff in ipanema. Rio also Has the orange itau bicycles all over the place. Omg..I love renting these bikes and exploring ipanema and copacabana. What I found out about the bikes on my last trip is, if you rent a bike from station 1, you DONT HAVE TO return it to station 1. You can return return the bike to station 5, 6, 7, 10, 100. To rent the bikes, go to the bike stand where the bikes are stationed, touch the screen at the stand, press the English option and follow the simple instructions. At that time, you can rent up to 4 bikes (depending on how many people are riding with you) for a small fee. It's very inexpensice. They will flash a code on the screen. I snapped a picture of the code just in case we forgot. My husband and I Input our code and took our bikes. We walked out of our apartment one afternoon, took an uber to the SHOPPING RIO SUL MALL. instead of going Into the mall, we found a bike stand and rented 2 bikes for the hour. If you go over the houR they will charge you extra but we didnt care. The bike ride was VERY NICE and we had a shit load of fun. We rode the bikes in front of sugarloaf mountain. The views were breathtaking. We stopped along the way and took pictures. I'm so happy we decided to do the bike ride because we saw so many interesting parts of Rio that we probably would have never seen because we are always in uber speeding past these various sites. Along the bike route were beautiful greenery, picturesque views of the mountains and beautiful water. I know I said this post was going to be non sexual, but the half naked men along the bike route made this ride even more interesting. The men there are just so beautiful. I told my hubby that I wanted to take the street tram to see more of Rio. In order to ride the tram you need to use your debit card to buy a tram card. The tram is very clean and modern. We sat on the tram and rode through downtown Rio taking in all the sites. We jumped off one train line and got on another to see as much as we could. The tram is the most inexpensive, relaxing way to see downtown Rio for about $10US pp. The tram takes you through business loops, residential neighborhoods and other areas of interest. There are about 3 or 4 train lines so make sure you get there around 11 in the morning if you want to get a full day of exploring In. The tram ride is amazing. You can get on and off if you like. Just dont lose your card or you will have to buy another. If you need to exchange money in copacabana go to BLAME IT ON RIO travel. The owner is Bobby. Hes an ex-pat from Florida. Bobby is so sweet. He opened a thriving business in Rio that does money exchange, countless tours and he even has a laundry mat to wash clothes. He actually gives the best exchange rates in copacabana. Bobby also likes Snyders pretzels so If you go, take him a bag and tell him, "Coach sent you." If anyone knows of anymore placew of interest to add, please share for the newbies and also some of us who may have gone to Rio, but not ventured off the beaten path.

RISQUE RIO RENDEVOUS Another FAN-fucking-tastic TRIP TO Rio in the History Books for my husband and I. We planned this trip about 8 months ago and used kayak, skyscanner and hopper to monitor the prices for direct flights out of Miami until we saw a cheap price that we liked. Weve rented about 4 apartments in the colonial zone in our 4 years visiting that amazing country and have never had any security issues with the apartments. If you're renting an Airbnb just make sure the owner doesnt have any restrictions with you having local visitors over to the apartment. When we visited a few months ago, they told my husband and I that we could only have 2 visitors a day. We quickly found another Airbnb and checked out of the apartment that had those restrictions. When it isn't peak season the apartments on airbnb are very affordable, in fact they're cheap as hell. The flight will leave a huge hole in your budget. My husband and i always get the seats on american airlines DIRECTLY BEHIND PREMIUM ECONOMY! Although you're in coach seating, if you get the seats directly behind premium economy then You will get more leg room. A good buddy of mine flew with us in March of this year and said he was miserable the entire trip because he had no leg room where he was sitting in Coach. He was actually sitting in the middle of two strangers. he dreaded taking the long, uncomfortable flight home. We snagged tickets for $681 for on our last trip to rio in March and were fortunate to get tickets for the same price for our upcoming visit in 4 weeks. Do yourself a huge favor and download HOPPER, SKYSCANNER, GOOGLE TRIPS AND SKIPLAGGED to your phone. these apps will monitor flights you're interested in and notify you when the price changes. Once you get the alert that the price has dropped for your trip NEVER BOOK through those sites. ALWAYS GO DIRECTLY to the airline site and book your ticket as you can still save a few more bucks by doing so. As far as the guys in the peak and off season, it will be as you would expect. Peak season brings wayyyyyy more guys than the off season, but let me tell you my friend, our first trip was during the off season and there were plenty of sexy brazalian men in those saunas. The name of the money exchange establishment is CASA DE CAMBIO FRANK EL AZUANO. Its in the colonial zone, two stores down from THE PALACIO HOTEL, next to a cigar shop. It was our first time exchanging money in santo domingo. I felt so accomplished after the transaction. We usually covert money through our bank, but realized we were losing money during the exchange with the fees that our bank charges. We stayed indoors a lot this trip for 2 reasons. Reason number one is it was too damn hot to be outside for too long. Omg! The heat was unbearable. Reason number 2 is that we had a sexual encounter schedule almost every 3 to 4 hours. On the drive back to our apartment we passed by the PRESIDENT’S PALACE which would be the equivalent of the WHITE HOUSE in the UNITED STATES. If you ever visit Santo domingo take an uber ride to the restaurant and just enjoy the different sights and people making their way around this beautiful country.
