The Beaches in Rio - where to go

While many doubt it, I actually do other things in Rio the remaining 10% of them time when I am not at the saunas!

The beaches in Rio are beautiful and there are two "gay" beaches. In truth, they are probably 25%+ gay. But the straight couples/families don't care or notice.

Copacabana Beach: Look for the famous landmark, the Copacabana Palace. The gay beach is directly in front of it across the street. Look for the rainbow flag flying over the Tented concession stand where you rent your chairs/umbrellas. This was the beach I spent several days at last week when I was there. I prefer Ipanema but this beach is walking distance to the hotel and convienent.

Ipanema Beach: The gay beach in Ipanema is where Rua Farme de Amoedo intersects with the beach blvd.(Rua is street in Portuguese) This is where you will see alot of what Brazilians call "Barbies"! Perfect body, 20something gay guys! Lots of them! There are more Gay guys on this beach than Ipanema and the area stretches along the beach further. If you walk in on Rua Farme de Amoedo from the beach two blocks you are in a area of many restaurants and bars all gay friendly(kinda like a mini tropical West Hollywood). I mentioned several of these restaurants in previous posts as this is where we like to go to dinner after the saunas in the evening. A couple of blocks down from Farme de Amoedo on the beach is the Fasano Hotel, where Madonna as well as other celebarites stay and the cheapest room is U.S. 450/nt and the ones with the views of the beach are well over $1,000.- 3,500/nt.

Remember!! In spite of being a very gay friendly gay tolerent country, in Brazil overt PDA are not the norm, you will not see guys holding hands or kissing! (with the exception at night along Rua Farme de Amoedo I have seen guys holding hands.) In Restaurants there is no problem with sitting close to each other but no kissing! :-)

Thanks Tomcal ! Much appreciated. I have spent most of my time on the beaches of Ipanema and little on Copa. I much prefer the ones on Ipanema. Tons of eye candy and everything is just too perfect. I would say the largest gathering is in Ipanema. Right? Have I been missing out all these years?

What about Barra? Any gay beach there our outside the city that is worth visiting?

The guy in the first photo on the right, I have been with a few times. Bad first time. Bad second. And, bad third. I guess I never learn. But, he is very sexy and his best side is now showing. His ass is simply yummy!

Oz, we all sometimes "double down" on our mistakes thinking it's going to be better! :-) I was in a three way with him twice in the same day with one of the identical twins mentioned in a previous post in August and it was fun. I had seen him in the saunas many times over the past two years but had never been with him before.

I took one of the Chris Geary photos that Paulerio mentioned and marked wheren the two gay beaches are on this aerial view. They are about a 20 min. walk apart.(I walked between the two this last trip)
