12is12
Hi Guys, As with my previous summary (regarding sex), this too isn't based on first-hand knowledge but on posts here. Thanks again to our generous forum members for sharing. Again, please feel free to correct and add. It'd be usefull to know more about costs: How much is a taxi ride from the airport; how much are Manny's tour/driving services; accommodation rates; etc. Also, please share about tourism sites in and around SD. Accommodation: “On your first trip, as a pasty white gringo, even with a little Spanish on your tongue, you’re probably much safer at one of the hotels that is accustomed to sex tourists in the Colonial Zone (Palacio, the Romas, Discovery, etc.) than at an apartment. These hotels also take copies of or keep the cedulas (ID cards) while the visitor is in the room. As an added safety precaution, you can tell the front desk not to return the ID until you call them from your room or come down with the visitor for him to retrieve it.” “If your budget allows I would highly recommend the Boutique Hotel Palacio on Calle Duarte: in the heart of the colonial zone, very accommodating, does not charge extra for an overnight guest [there IS a charge for breakfast of course], lovely colonial era building, and good service.” “If ever in need of a nice, clean, spacious, safe place that’s close to all the action then do a google search for Paseo Colonial. They have studios or 1 and 2 bedroom apartments for rent, and the building is absolutely beautiful. These units are also available on Airbnb. If Etienne is the owner of the apartment you are renting then you’re in good hands because he’s a terrific guy. We’ve been renting his units for 2 years now and they are modernly decorated and clean. Additionally, the building is close to the Malecon and colonial zone. It’s gated and safe. There is also a 24 hours doorman.” “Airbnb: https://es.airbnb.com/rooms/5238997?s=51 The apartment has 2 bedrooms and 2 bath. it is in a very secure building with 24 hours friendly security. The owner is a very kind guy. He actually has 3 other units in this very clean complex, with lots of extras.” “Casa Sanchez looks quite nice. Though not a 'gay hotel' like Adam [which has taken a dive], it is apparently gay-owned and gay-friendly, presumably accustomed to same-sex couples using the lower courtyard pool, rooftop hot-tub, outside pool table, etc.” “TAU Casa Conde by Paco's (aka Grand) would be a place to which you would have to be more direct inviting the guy to your room, and entering is publicly more visible. While not necessarily a great place to stay, it would be affordable to some as a secondary base exclusively for sex. It is more definably geared for that, for female guests of male punters, though a regular hotel.” “Hodelpa Colonial on Isabel La Católica, running a few steps north from El Conde east end (Parque Colón). Some street-side units had small terraces with unremarkable views and extensive din right under your nose. Good breakfast. Gym. No pool.” “There is Roma 1 and Roma 2 – OK, but a lot of rowdy female oriented tourists.” Money Exchange: “The name of the money exchange establishment is CASA DE CAMBIO FRANK EL AZUANO. It’s in the colonial zone, two stores down from THE PALACIO HOTEL, next to a cigar shop.” “Paco’s / Grand’s clandestinely acts as a cambio for exchange of USD (I assume also CAD and EUR, but not sure). They provide as close to the actual exchange rate as I’ve seen. If you have a reasonable (not really huge) amount of US dollars and you need them converted into DOP (or vice versa), also try Paco’s since it’s open 24/7. Eating: “DUO and Pizza Hut are still my favorite restaurants to eat and cruise, especially in the evenings from 6 pm. At the Pizza Hut, order your food inside and sit on the outside patio with your chair facing the strip so you can see the guys walking by. You're bound to make eye contact, and find a sexy guy to take back to your apartment.” “There is a very nice restaurant in the middle of the colonial zone called DUO. The American Breakfast there is delicious.” Driver Jesus 1 809 432 0999 axiom2001 and likeohmygod
