New Hi-Def iPad from Apple

Apple's web site is calling it: Resolutionary! And with good reason:

(CNN) -- Apple rolled out a high-definition iPad on Wednesday with a display screen that promises to be dramatically sharper than the current model, the iPad 2.

"It is amazing," Apple CEO Tim Cook said at a San Francisco unveiling. "We've taken it to a whole new level, and we are redefining the category that Apple created with the original iPad."

The new 9.7-inch display screen will feature a "retina display" of 2047 by 1536 pixels, compared with the current model's 1024 by 768 pixels.

To break it down, that's a total of 3.1 million pixels on the display screen.

"Your retina in your eye cannot discern those individual pixels," said Apple Senior Vice President Phil Schiller. "The images on it look stunning."

The new iPad will be available March 16 and cost the same as the iPad 2 -- from $499 to $829 based on storage capacity and Wi-Fi capacity. Pre-orders were opened at Apple's online store on Wednesday.

The article also mentions that the 25 billionth app was downloaded in China.

But, it is slightly heavier. The iPad2 weighed in at 600 grams (or 1.33 lbs.) The iPad3 weighs 652 grams (or 1.44 lbs.) FH, I know this was an important factor in your consideration, so you will have to determine if the new features are more important to you than weight. Up to you.

However, if you buy this thing, I will be green with envy. And Khor Tose, eat your heart out!

I saw the story in the news this morning about this "revolutionary" product and read it. Doesn't tickle my fancy but, then again, I'm a tech dinosaur.

I noticed Apple is touting it has raised the resolution of the Ipad's camera to 5 megs and it got me thinking as to why the heck would one want a camera on a tablet? Beats me given the tablet holder already has one or two digital cameras stashed away in his tech closet not to mention the camera on his phone sitting in his pants pockets.

But I can see it now, the Princess (or Prince) of Hannibal, Wackmanistan, strolling past the crowds as the thousands in the throng hold up their 9.7 inch display screens to snap a photo or two of the royalty while simultaneously watching an internet photo site displaying photos of the same royalty taken a few yards down the line (or better yet, watching the streaming of video of the one side/backside of the royalty they're unable to take in from their vantage point). And maybe even one of the hi-tech microphones might pick up the muffled sounds of a royal wind-breaking that too could be transmitted to the world. And when, oh when, will an app be offerred so we can all experience the regal odor itself?

And one (at least one who claims no grip on reality) begins to wonder what the onlooking aliens, watching the throng of bugs below holding up their electronic gizmos, are making of these events. Do all those bugs have one of those gizmos? Do they gain sustenance with them? Do they use them to communicate with each other? And, most importantly, do they all have the 7.1 Odor App?

Jesus Christ Thaiworthy, this is not a personal contest, but a decussion on what is the best tablet platform. It is not one up on khortose or one up on Thaiworthy. I really wonder if you know what you sound like at times. Other then the great and remarkable improvement to the graphics the rest of the changes are cosmetic. This tablet is heavier just to run those graphics. as it takes a larger battery to give it any battery life at all. I would still buy the Samsung 10.1 as it is smaller, cheaper and runs android, but if you must have an apple the really good deal is the Apple II was has had its price reduced by $100. Dollar for dollar it is a far better value at this moment then its new cousin.

Well, if I'd known that, I wouldn't have bought him a consolation drink for the Christmas Quiz. I'd just have had him turn some water into wine instead  Mind you, as a magician, he should have been able to do that by himself! :o

Fountainhall has big plans for his new iPad

That was funny! But I am 95% sure I will go for the Galaxy 7.7 once it has the new Ice Cream Sandwich installed. I promise I will not put it in the washing machine after eating the ice cream

Definitely! HOT chocolate, a must!

Incidentally, I notice reports this morning that the new iPad is a bit more hot to handle. Keep them at a safe distance when watching those porn movies, guys! Wouldn't want your other equipment to be scorched
