  1. Very moving.
  2. While I like the words of the new pope, at the moment that's all they are. I think there were better choices for man of they year because a lot of other people have done things. It remains to be seen if Francis will back his words with real change.
  3. His new friend flies like tinkerbell? Am I really to believe that Bieber is the top? I'm confused.
  4. We cut cable a couple of years ago, just do netflix and hulu now. For <$20 month we get all we need.
  5. Some seriously hot boys.
  6. Two comments: I think 90 days for a first offense is too great. You need a more slap on the wrist "we're serious". 90 days for second, and permanent for third strike me as fine. Second, I think it needs to be a closed process, or at least somewhat anonymized. You don't want an instance of borderline behavior to turn into an all-out forum war with people picking sides and feelings getting heated about who is supporting who. I haven't been as engaged lately, but I think in general I've been pretty happy with the tone overall. Always a few episodes, but nothing like some other forums I've been on...
  7. I have asked all my friends to give it a pass, and almost all have agreed. Card is a jerk, and I don't want to support him.

    AIDS

However, the drugs don't work for everyone, just mostly everyone as I understand it.
  9. I'm sure it is an appalling thought to some, but I've often wished someone would just shoot Scalia so we could get a more rational court.
  10. What a brilliant scam. Pay me $38 for the privilege of filling out a form with which nothing will be done.
  11. And yours sounds like rationalization to me. I imagine if I made a movie with Fred Phelps and the Westboro baptist church, people here would think the less of me for it, and rightly so. I don't see the difference. Certainly the associated people aren't nearly as culpable as Card, but you're suggesting that because other people are involved that the whole project deserves a pass. I strongly disagree. The old adage "lie down with dogs, wake up with fleas" seems applicable to me. It is perfectly reasonable to judge people for the company they keep. As for how much he gives, there is no way to know because our financial disclosure laws on this sort of thing are a joke.
  12. No, it isn't just Card's movie. But, everybody who signed on agreed to associate with Card, a producer. At some point you get to hold people responsible for the company they keep.
  13. In response to Hit and NC, I'm not judging the art, because the quality of the art is irrelevant to the point of discussion. I'm not buying it. As far as I know, it is typical for producers to share in the success of the movie, so yes, I would expect if the movie does well that Card benefits. I don't think we can know for certain, but if the movie does well there will likely be others so he would benefit that way.
  14. I haven't been following much, but think he is guilty. He chased the kid and cornered him. All that followed was the result of his own actions. What the law will say, I don't know, but I hope he is forced to pay.
  15. Hit, You're a sweet person, but your position is ludicrous. The money Card makes from the movie will finance hate. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orson_Scott_Card Card sits on the board of directors of the national organization for marriage, the largest and most powerful organization fighting same sex marriage. Here's a hint, if you sit on the board, you're normally a big benefactor! Card has used his bully pulpit to attack gays for DECADES. Go look at the link above, this isn't a one-off or just recent thing. The idea that it's wrong of us to point out where this money will go and that somehow because it's 'creative' we have to turn a blind eye to the man's evil is frankly insulting to the rest of us. We are allowed to defend ourselves against an enemy that has repeatedly attacked our community. He does NOT get a free pass.
  16. Card has his free speech rights. I have mine. He has used his to attack our community over and over and over and over. I will use mine to ask people that care about me and my community not to patronize him. A boycott of his products is my _right_. Just as it is his right to spew hatred and filth. Anyone's right to free speech and an opinion is NOT the right to be free of the consequences of that free speech or opinion. You have a right to say you hate homos. We then have the right to ask people not to give you their money.
  17. I find it more than a bit ironic that Obama says we should have a national debate about this, but wants to crucify the guy that tells us what we are actually debating....
  18. I do this. I find that a bit of sage and thyme work well too, though it's a matter of taste.
  19. Breaking Bad should be on that list.
  20. If I had the cash, I'd hire for longer. I enjoy the extra time, but it isn't cheap, so I rarely do it.
  21. I want Blake Jenner and Chord Overstreet to double team me.
  22. I've been supporters of charities for this for a long time. I know of no location anywhere where it is ever acceptable to administer medication to somebody. They MUST administer it to themselves.
  23. You're making issues where there aren't any. The individual in question must personally request the medication, no one can do it for them. _THEY_ decide. There is no place where somebody else can decide this matter for you. Certainly no place where you can administer lethal medication to someone and not risk a murder charge. In Oregon, the law requires the patient to be diagnosed with a terminal disease. These laws aren't for people who just don't like their lives. Doctors take their responsibilities very seriously. They are trained and believe in the sanctity of life. Nobody ever does this kind of thing without deep thought. What galls me is when people, exercising their religious beliefs or their view that they need to protect people, take away those people's ability to make their own choices about their own lives.
  24. He was a nasty piece of work. Good riddance. He spent his life hate-mongering.
  25. Oregon does and I'm a huge supporter. I don't think I could do it myself, but just having the pills at hand would be wonderful. It would give me a sense of control in the face of the uncontrollable to know that if I couldn't take it, then I could choose to end it. Giving the terminally ill that choice I think is incredibly important, no matter what they choose to do.
