Older people in jeans does just look "wrong" sometimes - which then gave me a moment of panic in realising that I'm pushing on 50 ( 48 actually) and still wear jeans on a regular basis and so just had a "moment of self awareness" thinking "shit, is it time I stopped wearing jeans !" GWNinUS's recommendations above are spot on and are exactly my view on the place too. Follow his tips and you'll not go too far wrong. But as he's also mentioned there ARE several "no go" places now in the Ph's so DO check with your own Government advisory websites etc re then issuing any "do not travel" notices - which would of course automatically wipe out ANY insurance cover you would have either for that portion of your trip, or if the insurance company feel like it ( once and after you've made a claim of course ) for your ENTIRE trip, even when outside the Philippines ! So take care re that point. Not to mention that it's actually probably NOT that safe to be visiting those areas and shit IS happening there so definitely best to avoid perhaps. Even when there I felt a distinct uneasiness from my Ph hosts in certain areas as they too understood that really it probably wasn't a good idea for me to be hanging around in certain ( quite large areas) for too long. So do check and know what's what and where NOT to spend too much if any time - but "generally speaking" I would agree that Cebu and Davao cities are generally safe - but travelling on outside of those areas, best to follow advice perhaps for now. Well now, I learn something new every day it seems as whilst I always when Thais us it they are of course generally referring to us white guys I did always assume / was toid that it actually simply meant foreigner and not "just" European ( white) foreigners. To be fair if I ever walk into a bar with a rainbow flag flying outside of it and discover it's a lesbian bar I happily turn right round and walk out again as they're most definitely welcome to keep their bars all to themselves as far as Im concerned - if only we could get them to stay out of the guy bars too then that would be a welcome addition perhaps.

That all depends on what sort of night he already had and where he'd been I guess and what he's used to spending on a night out in the company he's normally in. Sometimes when heading out if you end up in Thai company you can easily spend 10,000 in a few hours, then if he'd had other plans ( which feel through) he might have had some money tucked away for that. Personally when on holiday I'd always rather risk having a bit more on me than risk running out of cash and having to screw about going to ATM's or back to my room etc and perhaps missing out on a damned good time - normally my biggest risk is me THINKING Hmmm I'm carrying a lot of cash, I know I'll spread it out around my body, perhaps if going into a night club even putting some in my shoe even - only to get pissed, forget I'd even put it there, lose it and wake up in the morning and wonder why I've so little money in my wallet ! - Thankfully those days are getting to be behind me now - mainly lol - but I never say never :-)
