"What the name of that place.....: I had to go ask and double check that here as I could barely remember but apparently it was the Halxyon Club - https://halxyonclub.com/ As I'd mentioned there is also another almost invisible gay club called Hoesik (https://www.facebook.com/PoblaHOE/) directly opposite the Coro Hotel, on the 2nd floor above Chinabanks offices and with it's small unassumed glass door entrance being immediately to the right of Starbucks caf. I was nearly waiting for some dodgy Bangkok style get you in to rip you off for drink type place based on it's location but it wasn't that at all and we'd a few beers there before moving on to Halxyon ( which is just up one of the side alleys also beside the Coro hotel ( or St Giles Hotel for those who prefer there) so both places very easy to find and fall in and out of when staying in that area. :-)

If only I'd known, you could have joined us for a drink as I was just two bars down ! :-) Actually there's two good genuinely gay night clubs just 100 metres or so from that bar, one of them brand new and very much the in place to be seen ( well if you like Drag perhaps). My partner and I were out in that area ( staying at the Coro hotel just across the street from there) and after a full on night in the bars drinking with the hookers in the Irish bar and singing my heart out in the Mexican bar we ended up hammered before we even reached the second club. Appaerntly on arrival there I went and sat in a booth right next to the stage where I'd spotted a space, un-beknowing to me this happened to be their very VVIP opening drag night and I'm unintentioally sneaked into the club owners private booth which was reserved for him and his friends. His friends weren't amused and gave us all sorts of looks for gate crashing their space ( bear in mind I was hammered and wasn't even aware nor cared ) but the owner who came over later thought it hiliarious that we'd neck to brass it and came over and welcomed us to his club and asked and ensured we where having a good time ! Proper gentleman he was too and we didn't get home until around 5.30am :) All of this was lost on me until the next morning when I got the usual DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST NIGHT lecture - - but when my BF looked at his camera roll and realised that half the people around him in his photos ( in the VIP booth) were actually Flipino Instragram 'stars' all was quickly forgiven :-)

If you've been with your BF a while I'm guessing you do already know that the whole "I must help my family and my family comes first. - and certainly before any white guy" thing is MUCH more deeply rooted into their mindset from a very young age than anything we in the West can ever imagine. So for us to try and stress the point that their family may all just money grabbers is in general a total waste of time and even though your BF may well be fully aware of that fact he STILL will feel obliged to "be seen" at least to help out, no matter what and any kindly advice we might deem to offer in that regard will be politely - or not so politely just depending on how hard we push the topid - be totally ignored, so best just let him get on with it ( while keeping your own finances well out of their / his grasp.)

As well as the usual low season lull there also seems to be quite an increase on "influencers" now posting videos on Youtube showing a lot of police checkpoints being set up and them getting pulled over and fined now (quite rightly) every hands turn for no helmets and or for getting breath tested for alcohol etc. All of which is perfectly legal and normal etc but in this new apparent youthful arrogant view of "I can do anything I want and how DARE they or the police try stop me" attitude that seems to be being pushed more and more now on youtube for views I just wonder how many younger people are being put off Thailand as a destination now by all the look at the "scammer police" videos that seem out there now. It's ironic that the police who for many years got a bad press for plenty of goods reasons are now it seems getting a bad press for actually doing their actual jobs all of a sudden !

Out of interest have you ever actually sat down and read the T&C's on your bank insurance coverage. I was given it once with my card and on reading it it was almost worthless, absolute bare minimum coverage amounts for things and most of the areas I choose to pay a bit extra for on my usual policies weren't off course on there too so I didn't bother taken them up on it and stuck with my own insurer. This just in case you're ever caught out and THINK you're well and fully covered using the bank card insurance when that not not actually be the case !

And it seems they have actually started that process - as to how big, long or REAL that wall is or will ever be is I guess a whole other question, but PR wise at least they're getting the story out that building of said wall is now 80% complete no less ! Yeah in general I agree with you however as a lot of video's are showing said backpackers "skateboarding" down the only main road in the place I'm guessing no matter how chilled I may be I'm not THAT chilled anymore and would worry more about breaking a hip than getting laid if I was to try it ;-) i also would disagree with you re Irish backpackers as you rarely hear a bad word said about them as most have good manners and enjoy a laugh. Yeah I've noticed those same videos and actually the more I look at the place in general I'm thinking of taking myself to the outskirts just IF AT ALL even as its starting to look just a little bit TOO much of a backpacker vibe for my liking ( including the people you were speaking of there too and their current besties across the pond as well perhaps)

Yep, heading back again in September. A few nights in Manila, a week or two in Davao and a week in Siargao ( the trying to be Bali of the Ph's). I think i'm looking forward to it but not quite sure yet as could do without the horrendous flights either way from Europe. 😞

Aside from the pricing issues above everyone should be aware and take care now when using hotels and hotel booking sites re such scams as they are unfortunately becoming an everyday experience and have been so for quite a few years now, myself having experienced it several times already too. Booking.com and the likes state clearly that its the hotels email that has been hacked in some form of phishing attack from a fraudster sending an innocent looking email to the hotel which is then followed up by an infected attachment, which when opened at the hotel gives the fraudsters access to ALL their emails and booking info, making it easy for them them to send out a secondary email to all new bookings ( from a spoofed hotel email address) quoting all necessary info and booking reference numbers to make us THINK it's real but ultimately then them asking us to send money under some false pretense. Booking.com etc say there's nothing they can do as it's not their system being compromised ( personally I'm not so sure about that sometimes too!) but they advise that we only communicate with the hotel withIN their portal "chat window" and NOT be separate email etc and once you move away from their platform they'll wash their hands of any damages claim you may try to make later. Below is just one other random example of this happening, but there are thousands of examples on line and it's a scam that's becoming very common now. - so always be on our guard when asked for anything such as money or copies of passport info etc. I should add too that ( annoyingly) there are times when hotels DO genuinely need you to reconfirm your ID / booking info with them and I've experienced that and each time I've just contacting booking.com directly ( good luck with that !) to double check that's been required first, but that usually never requires any actual money or credit card details to be sent so that can be the red flag to watch out for perhaps. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cq6zr59m49vo

Excuse my stupidity and a genuine question intended here but how does one go about paying said fifty euro to the guys ( assuming you're in a towel), is it strictly cash up front i.e you already have it tucked in the wrappings of your towel somehow, or you've to go to your locker and retrieve and he waits until you come back to him, or do you both CUM and then go - to your locker afterwards to enable him collect his payment on completion of the "service" you received ?

As the AI reply above suggests it may well be nothing to do with your phone/s listing and probably isn't in fact. Either way am i the only person who couldn't care less if my phone and devices are "spying" on me to feed me adverts and the like as in fact I usually find it quite useful that when I google or chat about a place or an idea I usually them within short order get adverts, travel tips and other content relating to the idea and usually giving my tips and hints and places I wouldn't have normally found or bothered to look for into the bargain. So, if the social media companies are THAT interested in following my every thought and my travel plans knock yourself out I say as I'm neither bothered nor smart enough to stop them it seems !

Just as an aside to my post ( and not wanting to derail the thread or anything in any way here) but I remember an interest fact from that day, where I'd said to the white guy host who owned the large villa with a pool etc something like " my god you've really got it all here, this is living in paradise, lovely villa and as many locals wanting to fuck you as you can manage" to which to my surprise he replied "No, dont be fooled and dont ever move here as it's shit actually as ( same as in Thailand) when you're here on Holiday you're a popular guy but once you move here and the locals twig to that they almost instantly lose interest as one or two of them try to lock you down and warn the others off you "or else". He was actually packing up to move back to Germany or wherever he was from as he was that bored and disillusioned with the whole place. He was that bored with it I almost felt guilty BEING the new guy and shagging all round me like a mad man at HIS party - yeah but JUST "almost" ! lol

I'd kept a watch on ticket sales and noticed they weren't selling and the day before the party I rang the host to ask was the party on or not and what price where the tickets now etc - trouble for him was the tickets hadn't sold well and in the end he gave up on the sales idea and just threw a massive party for the locals for himself and a just few friends to "enjoy" and as I knew him from the bars he very kindly just said "fuck it, come along as my guest" - the end resuly being there was myself and perhaps another two maxmim three white guys who were still of an age to have "fun" , so there was us and maybe 20/30+ locals all there for a good time - and Im pleased to say I lead the charge and fought a valiant battle to the bitter end on behalf of white guys everywhere ! lol. What a day THAT was, I'll never forget it !
