while you are right which easily can be proven by watching how many people order food on those flights without free meals , don't forget about those with long connections or long commutes to the airport who find food in airports both expensive and barely edible so yes , sometimes I ate because I was hungry indeed. fully agree, in reality how much we need to eat if we sit on the plane doing nothing for 10-15 hours ? I'm slowly coming to the stage when I will we asking them NOT to wake me up for a meal if I happen to be sleeping when they serve. It happened on my last two longish flight and I was upset at myself I did not do it since sleeping on the plane is rare feast for me.
