so if Japan could do it in say 20 years other countries can not in 48? Ghana at independence in 1957 had higher GDP per person than South Korea . Is that a case now ? was it even in 1970 ? When Singapore was leaving Malaysia no tears were shed deemed poor cousin is leaving It just sheer luck or perhaps better management ?

did you hear that:

that's all true and good you reminded that inconvenient truth. Visitors to Patpong Museum can watch short movie about Laos bombings. But is was 48 years ago and country economic condition now is owed more to governemnt handling it's affairs then to that undeclared war. Ditto Cambodia.

I agree it's unfair but I think their reasoning is that non-resident is not spending money locally but contributing to economy of his country of residence instead. I think my doctor summarized neatly senior's health standing. When I told him ' doctor I used to see you every 3 years but now every 3 months " his answer was ' because you are old"

That's the general rule but is seems there's more exceptions than sticking to the rule. Thais still need visas to most countries citizens of are granted 30 days visa exempt entry. I know several countries I can go visa free but their citizens can't come without visa to my country. Sometimes national pride prevails, sometimes welcome to the tourist dollar takes over. Certain rules are outright strange. It seems that from October on, Egyptian citizens holding dual nationality will be required to get a visa if they want to visit Egypt but they are living abroad, Strangest rule I personally encountered in mid 90-ties was being denied admission to country my passport allowed me visa free entry but because it was issued by embassy abroad I was not admitted. so bottom line is don't count on reciprocation, don't count on consistency, check rules well before intended trip and also shortly before.

I heard that from boys as well when I was there in Bkk in July. I guess we will know soon , spy is on the way I guess.

I can see attraction to the song, I'm already humming along after watching that clip. As for Songkran it looks it one of things people have strong opinion about, including our member. Some like you recommend it heartily and there quite a few of others. On another hand there are those who profess to trying to escape for that period or going into seclusion for those few days. as for hotels, I can imagine it may be hard to get something at decent price closer to holiday so I'd be booking something at least for those holiday days.

decision yes but opinion no, there's that saying that one can't make any scientific hypothesis based on one statistic sample. One experience may make us excited to return or miserable but we can't built theory on that, this goes for venues as well as for boys itself indeed. Even if we have justified opinion , good or bad, next trip it may turn different. so again for 128th time I say again ' go and try for yourself'. It's nothing wrong if after bad experience we say to ourselves' never again", I did it too but there's possibility the being so strict we may deprive ourselves some fun in the future

it was something in the air because I almost did the same but still decided to hold for better pricing and/ or connections. I know, naive me

Laos problem is that unlike other countries they can't count on influx of immigrant labour from poorer countries for simple reason - they are poor country already. It may be attractive to Myanmarese though for being at least peaceful.

hope it'll be true. Demand creates supply

not the same , doesn't mean it doesn't exist, new crop just looking for different kind of entertainment. Some Sunee Plaza devotees from the past are not lamented at all if you know what I mean. that is my point through and through

Thank you for very good and comprehensive report. Glad you had a great time there, at end of day it's why we travel to Thailand in the first place. few comments for paragraphs quoted for benefits of readers not familiar with Bangkok : going from /to airport to/from Silom area by public transport there are two options, one you took with change to MRT (underground) at Makasan (advantage - only one change , disadvantage -pretty long walk from Makasan to Petchaburi, covered walkway though , going other way to airport if using that option train may arrive already quite full so danger of standing room only, not that it's long trip , about 25 mins only ). Second option I prefer is to take ARL (airport train all the way to Phaya Thai, and then change into BTS ( overhead rail) to Siam ( just 2 stops ) and then change again ON THE SAME PLATFORM to Sala Daeng station (another two stops ) . Advantage - you can admire view and get/ refresh grasp of the area, got rate on money exachnge counters at Phaya Thai station, disadvantage - 2 changes instead of one. Difference in travel time and price miniscule , if any. Reasons for comment , on last trip when asked on the train by phone wielding couple going to Silom if they should alight at Makasan I suggested my option pointing that I'm going there now they looked at me like I told them to go through some territory untouched by human foot. ............ towel issue - that's probably the difference between 4000 and 1400 hotels. But yes , in cheaper places it may be an issue to get that extra towel if one expects more than one visitor a day. Solution I use if hotel makes it hard or is asking for extra money (50 to 200 ) , if Ii can I pack extra towel or buy cheap one in Silom market and use it myself, treating guest with hotel provided regalia ...... that the first Apollo report if I'm not mistaken so very thank you. Don't be discouraged by so so experience, as they say , one statistic sample is not a basis for scientific hypothesis. Likely reason for confusion is fact you did not book in advance. They have very extensive list of masseurs and respond pretty fast although not as fast as Jey Spa. I had bad luck as two I chose were not available that day so I gave up. It's far indeed , total travelling time from Choing Nonsi to Bearing -40 minutes but if guy one craves is available it will be worth it, if one is tried by such long trek , said Jey is half way through where you can take a travel break and continue after 1-1.50 hrs of massage there. ..... on pain of repeating myself but for benefit of newly arrived readers since Dec 2021 Furama Sathorn Xclusive is my favorite hotel in Silom area. Rooms are big, visitors not bothered with day or night, breakfasts ample , for economizing there's simple restaurant in the soi just across hotel, close to Chong Nonsi BTS and soi 5 market. Never had boy complaining that it's too far to walk, if they have motosai, there's parking. In short , go for it. As for Trinity Silom which is across the street , last time I stay there was in 2002 so will not say anything but there one member who stays there regularly and he may chip in with comments. Can't be bad if he returns, right ? ....... the same with Classrooms, absolutely recommended, around the corner from BoyzTown, discreet card operated entry bypassing reception, rooms big , clan and well appointed , even with cutlery. Copa is close second and bit cheaper but it's location above Boyztown bars may be noisier although I don't recall issues. Ambiance is similar but I don't like their maze of corridors so stay there rarely

rightly so. In condo where I live in the lobby there's table on which residents can place unwanted but usable items. If not picked up within 24 hours they are supposed to reclaim them or super will dump them out. Works great. Now you know where my vacuum cleaner comes from and where most of Christmas gifts are landing
