In "Allegiance," written by Jay Kuo and Lorenzo Thione, Leung plays a young man (George Takei of "Star Trek" plays the character later in life and Lea Salonga is another star) forced into the Heart Mountain camp in Wyoming, where he becomes a writer for the official camp newspaper who experiences tangled loyalties. Leung may be familiar to sharp-eyed "Glee" fans -- he is a member of the Warblers, the show choir at the private school the characters of Kurt and Blaine attended in the second season. Hmmm...the menu heading reads Lucky Loses One Finger. No, I still have eleven! But to answer your question, why yes, the holidays did ruin my weight losing efforts. Finally I had reached the 20 pound weight loss mark. But now, I am back to losing only 15 pounds. And Oliver arrives a month from today! Can I lose ten pounds by then? If your answer is yes, then you haven't seen the Christmas candy still lying around my house! Thankfully the bf helped out by single-handedly eating almost a whole box of See's candy.

As some might have noticed, I have been encouraging folks to post more, and more often, to keep MER an exciting place for all of us to visit. I even took a short holiday to allow others to get a word in. There are 27 unpinned threads on the main menu page of the Hooboy Pub. (I eliminated the banned threads by Simon.) 8 of these threads are started by BiBottom Boy. Ten are started by administrators Tampa Yankee and Totally Oz. The last response in 20 of the 29 threads is by BiBottom Boy. So, how is this equal dispersion working? Well, not so well, although I congratulate One Finger for his efforts to increase his posting. When you look at the above statistic, you see that just a few people seem to be carrying the site. And if, by chance, you thought one or more of them was not a very interesting poster, then there is even less here to attract your interest, and, by implication, the interest of others coming to the site. We did have some new members recently, but they didn't stay long. Anyone wonder why? Many of us enjoy having this forum available as an alternative to other gay websites. But I don't see how it can be maintained by such a small group of regular posters. So, without any hectoring or badgering, I am simply trying to, once again, make the simple point that you need to give some of your own effort to maintain a lively site worth visiting regularly. In fairness, I should mention that I am focusing here on the Pub, but the other forums do have some greater diversity, even if not the readership the Pub gets. In sum, and without any attempt to hector or badger, I would just kindly suggest that as a New Year's resolution, you decide that you want the site to thrive and make a solid effort to add more content to the site. More reviews, more threads, and more responses to the posts that your fellow members are adding each day. With the new government in Myanmar I am hoping things will continue to progress. I hope to spend a few days there next month. Does anyone here have any direct knowledge on what that might be like...I mean either real experience or knowing someone who has such. I have walked across the border in northern Thailand into Myanmar, but they only let you go so far. The people kept their distance, but smiled and waved at me. It was like stepping back into the fifties. I'm excited to think I might see more. Years ago a tour bus I was taking from Shenzen to Guandong China stopped in this little village for a lunch at a restaurant which was behind a wall. I took one look at the food and left the place, walking to the main street. I became quite the attraction as people on their bikes- there were hardly any cars- all turned around at least once to get a better look at me, a tall white guy very rare in those parts, at least at that time. My guess is that people in Myanmar might keep their distance too.

I have been stopped at the old Crowne Plaza on Silom, now the Holiday Inn. They wanted $40 and registration, but the guy did not have ID. I had security come to my room at the Narai, wondering if I had a woman in the room. He insisted on checking after I said no, and found my hunky guy in his undies. Again, $40 would have left the guy in the room, but again, he had no ID. I stayed at a hotel off Sukhumvit where the manager was a friend of my friend, and he assured me I could bring a guy to my room. So I did, and escorted the guy out when done.(I can still remember how nice his body felt!) Some guy followed me back up on the elevator. He pushed a different floor than I did, but when we got to my floor he got off and said he was security and insisted on checking my room to see if I had a guy in there. Well, of course the guy had just left, so that was that. The next day I asked the manager why this happened, and he insisted, after investigating, that no security from the hotel had checked my room. I never learned who the mystery man was. The Montien hotel would never let a guy past the entrance at night. So I pretty much learned to like the Suriwong hotel.

"Now I don't worry about the future; I just enjoy the present." That must be another Charlie posting on the other site about how worried he is that he will have no one to care for him when he gets old and feeble.

Next month the Le Meridien hotel is available at $106 a night, no breakfast. The location simply can't be beat. So often I would like to go back to the hotel for awhile, and this makes that so easy. I don't bring boys to the rooms anyway as I usually am expected to share the wealth with the hotel, and I don't like to do that.

I used it earlier this year for a hotel in Bangkok. I got the Millenium Hilton, on the river, for $100 a night. That was a bargain then, but with the floods I see hotel rates down for this January.

Dorky Lucky is enjoying temps of 74 and bright blue skies today...a far contrast with that cloudy, rainy day in New York. I won the trip for selling newspaper subscriptions, so went on a bus with many other young boys. Everyone raced for cigarettes and Playboy magazines as soon as they got their hotel room keys. I wouldn't have either dreamed of or dared buying a Physique magazine. I discovered those much later.

I saw Other Desert Cities last month and agree that Rachel Griffiths was excellent. The entire play, which takes place in Palm Springs, is wonderful. It got better as it went along, something that always appeals to me. It will play in LA Nov 20 - Dec 20, 2012 at the Mark Taper Forum.

Many review sites will remove bad reviews at the request of the advertiser. I hadn't noticed this with Amazon, as they seem to have many bad reviews on books that stay up. Yelp is known for taking away bad reviews when the company buys ads.

Hectoring...browbeating...encouraging? It's all semantics. My point is that the sometime posters and the lurkers come here and they want content to read. And I am one of the biggest content contributors, certainly not the only one. But I like to have content here to read when I come here too. If you don't see this as a community forum where we share the responsibility to keep the place lively, then I am in the wrong place and might as well stick to installing Roku devices. If it bothers you so much to be reminded that you have to contribute as well as take, then I might as well spend my time installing Roku devices. Of course people have other things to do and may not have the same interest in the forum as the bigger content contributors do. But at least this thread has people thinking about what they expect when they come here, why they post and whether the place is important to them. If the conclusion reached is that you would miss it if it weren't here, then the logical conclusion seems to be that you need to do your part to keep the place going. Okay, Lookin? Cameo complete? On to the New Year.

Everyone can have their own opinion on the best way to get new members, but when stating them, please mention which ones you have personally tried and how they have worked for you. For me, every once in a while I get tired of internet posting. I see the same people all of the time, nothing new happens. It always seems that I am one of the top posters of the day, and I would like to see others have that honor more often. So, I am going on holiday to try some new things, perhaps my newly hooked up Roku. In the meantime, enjoy posting. Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukkah, and Happy New year. See you in 2012.
